Windows 7 Was Unable To Start?
Aug 28, 2012
Recently I built a new computer. This was the first time I'd ever done so and I had a lot of fun doing it. I got everything to work and have been happily using said computer for the last week. Until now.As of this morning, when I start up my computer I get an error that says Windows was unable to start. After spending a while trying to repair it told me it could not find the problem. I tried system recovery a few times, which solved nothing.After trouble shooting for a bit, I found this in the Diagnosis and Repair Details: "Rootcause found:Boot critical file D:Windowssystem32DRIVERSjaStor.sys is corrupt"

When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.

I formatted my desktop today, and now - sadly - i have issues.What happened was: I formatted - No issues. Windows Booted and all was good.I proceeded to install all the updates labelled "Windows" and anything else system related (No drivers, no third party stuff) Only stuff from microsoft. I have tested all things (Startup Repair, Bios Check and so on). When selecting "Start up windows normally" It continues to the boot screen, stays on it for a few seconds. Then bluescreens and restarts faster than i can see the damn error code or anything.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate and yesterday I did my first image backup using Acronis True Image 2011 (I'd previously been using an earlier version with no problems.)
When the backup completed I told the computer to shut down and it went to a screen that said the following:
"Operations in progress. Please wait. The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete."
The screen had a blue background with the blue ring with the white bit going round and round to the left of the text and the Windows 7 Ultimate logo at the bottom.
I left the computer and came back over an hour later and the computer had gone into standby. When I pressed the start button the same screen was still displaying so I left it for a couple more hours and came back to it and the same thing happened. I turned the computer off at the back and switched it on again this morning. I got the "Starting Windows" screen and then it went straight back to the "Operations in progress..." message.

in the middle of playing a online mmo the blue screen came up. Restarted and now windows fails to start. I have tryed to use start up recovery option and it try's to start but before start up repair screen comes up and my only option is to restart. The error code is
0x0000001e (0xffffffffc0000005 , 0xfffff8001b0eb505 , 0x0000000000000000 0xffffffffffffffff)
And another is

And so on, I have not seen a named driver at all so I have no idea where to go here the computer was running fine before and I built it only 3 weeks ago and have done no updates or software changes in the last week.

I can't start Windows unless I run Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool. My pc will just boot to the page where it says 'press DEL to enter setup, F12 for boot menu' (hereinafter referred to as boot start screen) and after that no 'Starting Windows' will appear, only black screen. I have to press the space bar simultaneously (while boot start screen is showing up) just to get to Windows Boot Manager and pressing tab to go to WMDT (additionally, if I press F8, black screen is all that I get). At first I waited to finish the test but I accidentally press ESC button and bam, the 'Starting Windows' appeared and it started. I don't know what's the root cause of this. I don't want to do that everytime I want to use my computer or restart it.
P.S: Before I have Windows 7 installed in this pc, I have Windows Vista. I reformatted all disk, delete any partition, made a new partition, and then installed Windows 7. It stuck up on the 'Starting Windows' screen without the logo appearing after the first restart (where there is a countdown or you can choose to manually restart it). I then tried to install it again (making a Windows.old in my pc) and it would stuck up again. I tried the three bootrec.exe commands and it fixed it and I was able to start and complete the installation process. After a few days, the problem stated above started to appear (where I need to go to WMDT just to start Windows). I installed Windows 7 again, formatting every disk. It stuck up again at 'Starting Windows' screen and then I thought 'what if I start WMDT, will the same thing happen?' so I turned my pc off, press space bar many times, tab, WDMT, ESC, and then voila, it started normal and was installed successfully.
P.P.S: I have a Hitachi Flora 330 DX1 Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.4 GHz. with 2.00 gb RAM. OS is Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601. Graphics card is Intel 946GZ Express Chipset Family.

This morning I tried starting it, the two options launch startup repair and launch windows normally were displayed. I clicked launch startup repair and after it said "loading files", it gave me a black screen for nearly 2 hours. Then I restarted and clicked launch normally. It took longer than usual, then took me back to the initial toshiba startup screen.I tried pressing f8 and booting in safe mode, but safe mode takes me back to the initial screen as well. I can't boot using last good configuration either.The laptop is about 2 years oldToshiba model # PSK2CU - 0QU01URunning Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bitunfortunately since it is not my computer, I do not possess more information besides what is on the label.

I've a jar file which contains a very simple program of displaying "Hello" message in the console. I've pasted the code at the end of this thread.I want to run this jar file as a windows service. This service gets started without any hiccup,However,It simply wouldn't start the service. I've tried running this service as using NET and Sc command. But in vain. Below is the error I'm facing:
C:Windowssystem32>sc start MajaService
[SC] StartService FAILED with error 193.
Further, as a workaround I created a .bat file for executing this .jar file and again tried creating a window service for this .bat file,In this event i get the followingh error:
[SC] StartService FAILED 1053:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Below is my program:
import java.io.*;
class Hello implements Runnable{
Thread thread;
Hello(){
thread = new Thread(this, "Hello1");
thread.start();
} public void run(){
try {
while(true){
System.out.println("Hello");
Thread.sleep(500);
}}
catch(Exception e){}
} public static void main(String[] args){
Hello h = new Hello();
}}

I have a Samsung netbook (n145) which has had a few issues starting up over the past couple months - it would prompt to run chkdsk before booting, I would let it run, and it would boot. However, yesterday I got the 'windows failed to start - a recent hardware change may be responsible' error message, and giving the option to try starting windows normally (which fails: there is a flash of BSOD and then screen goes black, and computer restarts, arriving at same 'failed to start' error). The other option is to run system repair, which also does not work: it takes ages to bring up a dialog box that searches for errors, but I have let this run for hours and it remains stuck. Tapping f4 to bring up samsung recovery also results in a stuck screen. Tapping f8 to boot to safe mode does not work either.
My main concern is having a working computer, and I can't really afford costly repairs or a new netbook. I got this one used about 1 1/2 years ago and it has no cd drive/OS boot disk (windows 7 starter came already installed). What should I do? Can I fix the hard drive, or should I replace? I am not at all technically skilled and have limited knowledge but an endless capacity to learn. I called samsung and they suggested I replace the hard drive to the tune of $100-$300 for parts alone, which is too expensive for a $100 netbook.

Just finished installing Win 7 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 1545. It appeared the update was going along smoothly until it came time to reboot. After rebooting, the laptop showed that it was configuring Windows. Once the configuration was completed the system went into Startup Repair. Once completed and checking the Repair Details it shows a message indicating that ci.dll is corrupt. I was able to restore the computer to original state, but once I downloaded the 80 or so win 7 updates, I get the same problem.

While running memtest86 on a bootable cd, it froze which I then restarted my computer. It is now unable to start up Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I can reinstall Windows but would like to know if the whole event damaged my hard drive. I can only start up to where the orbs make the Windows logo before it restarts. Also there is no noise, smoke or smell coming from my hard drive. Is it possible that it is damaged beyond use and repair? Also my BIOS seems to have changed the name of the Hard drive to SATA instead of HDD

I have successfully created a Windows 7 Repair Disc using the "Create a system repair disc" from Control_Panel->Backup_and_Restore
When I attempt to reboot, using the Repair Disc I have just created, everything appears to work - Loads files, Windows wavy flag, etc. however; just as I am about to get into the real stuff I receive the following message:
This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair.
This is exactly the ssame message I get if I boot from the original Window 7 DVD and elect Repair option
This is really important to me as when I use F8 during Post I do not have the options to repair the system here either and it freaks me a bit to be unable to repair the system should anything happen

A client of mine (I'm an IT summer temp in a production facility) recently contracted the Windows 7 Recovery virus and contacted me to fix it. Having encountered the XP version recently and resolved the issue, I was able to easily remove the virus and associated rootkit. The difference this time was that unhide.exe failed to restore the start>all programs menu shortcuts, although it did manage to restore the folder structure. I read through and followed the instructions of another thread here: [URL]. Which did not resolve the issue. The output given by SystemLook is as follows:
SystemLook 04.09.10 by jpshortstuff

My computer was operating on battery, without warning the battery died. After plugging the computer to power and turning it back on, it takes me directly to:"Startup Repair" "Your computer was unable to start Startup Repair is checking your system for problems If problems are found, start up repair will fix them automatically. Your computer might restart several times during this process. No changes will be made to your personal files or information. This might take several minutes." Followed by a loading bar that says searching for problems. After leaving this on for a while it gives the system restore option, however this just takes me back to the previous screen. I cannot cancel the Start up repair and I can't access safemode. After searching for over an hour the only solution i've found so far is reinstall the OS, however my computer did not come with the OS disc

I have a re-occurring problem with my 1year old Sony Vaio. When I switch it on, it often goes to a page where it says 'windows was unable to start'. When I press 'start windows normally' it starts up with vaio logo and sometimes windows logo, but then stops and redirects me to a page that is blue to check for problems, but stays on this for hours, never resolving the issue. I have tried taking battery out, booting in safe mode (which doesn't work) and using last known working settings, but still can't get to log in page.

I'm not able to start in safe-mode either. I can get F12 to work to get to boot manager.

I set up Outlook and my email account details, and Outlook's test message was received successfully (by Windows Live Mail).
But then when I tried to start Outlook, I got this error message: Microsoft Office Outlook Unable to open your default e-mail folders. "Outlook could not start because a data file to send and receive mail could not be found. To add a data file, such as a personal folder file, double-click the Mail icon in Windows Control Panel".
I tried this but the only options open to me were modifying the mail settings I'd just set, or Change settings for the files Outlook uses to store e-mail messages and documents.
When I tried this by clicking the Data Files button there was no pst file listed. When I clicked Add, it is empty.
