I recently installed windows XP on my dell XPS which has a windows 7 preinstalled on it. To proceed with windows XP installation i changed the BIOS setting of SATA from AHCI mode to ATA. Windows XP has been installed properly. Now when i try to reboot the system its taking me to windows XP all the time, i am not able to use windows 7. I want my laptop to show the options of switching between XP and windows 7.

Every thing I read and try is from 2009 and the links or anything on them are either obsolete now or no longer there. When I plug my printer in, it goes through all the steps except when it comes down to the driver. I have installed, uninstalled about everything under the sun.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Precision T5400 workstation that was recently upgraded to Windows 7 64. Since the upgrade, I'm unable to use my audio card. I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Creative several times. No matter what I do, the device won't become available and I get a "Code 39" message in properties for the device in the device manager.
Here's a list of things I've tried: I've uninstalled and swept out all creative drivers and re-installed. No luck. I've done the same and removed, rebooted, shut down, re-installed the card and installed the drivers. No luck. I've tried running the installers in different compatibility modes. No luck. I've check the registry entries for upper and lower bound entries in case this issue was similar to the occasional missing CD/DVD problem that's fixed by this registry hack. No luck. I've lowered available memory to 2 Gigs as greater than 4 Gigs has been reported as a problem for SB cards in the past. No luck. Dell support had nothing. Dell doesn't provide Windows 7 drivers for this card or for the onboard sound card, for that matter. There's plenty of talk in the threads about "Daniel K" drivers, but all the links are dead ends.
I've read through the Sound Blaster sticky thread and tried everything I could and some extra things to boot.

I ran the USB POrts scan, and the display shows devices attached to each port.
I am trying to create a Windows 7 pro image to deploy but I am having difficulty when I deploy the image because of the built in SSD hybrid drive that comes with the laptop. When i deploy it will just loop and will not complete the setup when I push the image down to the new laptop.

Problems
-Sound test in control panel gives 'Failed to play test tone'
-No sound in headphones/external speakers as well.
Have tried every damn thing:-
-re-installing sound driver from dell site (Drivers and Downloads) and (Drivers and Downloads)
-re-installing driver from dell resource cd.
-running install in compatibility mode, vista.
-BIOS Upgrade.
-Repair through windows cd.
-checking 'windows audio' services in the windows process
In the dell diagnostics test, I can hear sound in speaker as well as headphones.
And system restore doesn't have a recent restore point.
i have not found dvd drive .in that one dvd cd is there but it was not comeing out.i not able 2 find cd in the my computer also it have not showed dvd drive(G)
