Windows 7 Contacts "OUTLOOK"?
Dec 24, 2012
I have just decided to clean up my contacts in this NEW OUTLOOK, what a load of POO.Why is windows trying to hold on to everything, on the old contacts it was easy, on this you have to go round the block to find that the contacts are still there. When MS has a winning formula is it really necessary to have to stand on your head and whistle up your pants leg to move to the next phase

It's probably my fault since most things are. Yesterday I had trouble sending email. I looked in the add-ins and saw the COM addin for Microsoft Hotmail connector. Well, I couldn't find where to delete it and so I went to c:\Progra~2\common~1\system\msmapi\msncon32.dll and deleted that. I did a bad thing, didn't I? This morning my Personal Folder in Outlook Contacts, is gone.
How can I get it back?
I did a system restore but the Personal Folder in Contacts Outlook 2007 is not there. The add-in is.

In Outlook I know how to archive folders and set how often these should be backed up. This backup can then be backed up so in the event of me losing data any saved emails etc. can be recovered. The problem I am having is archiving and then backing up my contacts in Outlook. I know how to create a single backup of my contacts in Outlook, but I cant get the contacts folder to archive on a schedule. This means that every time I add a new contact I need to create a complete new backup of my contacts which is not very practical. how to get my contacts folder in Outlook to archive on a schedule.

I've read the other threads regarding my problem, but still can't figure out what to do. I backed up my files before installing Windows 7, and have an "Outlook Express" folder. However, I can't figure out how to import the contacts I had saved in my address book in Outlook. The Outlook files are in .dbx format, so I am unable to open them.
Does anyone know how I can even access the files so I can see my contacts and copy them down? Importing them would be ideal, but I'll take whatever I can get.

Having successfully moved my address book (.WAB format) to w7 and converted it to .CSV format I can get as far as "Select the Contacts folder that you want to import to" as in the website [URL] but when I click "next" the box is blank where a Contacts folder should be. In outlook 2003 I have some contacts which I added manually to address book so there should be an address book of some sort.

I have over 13 years of Outlook Express folders and addresses that I desperately need to convert to Outlook 2007. I should have imported them into Outlook before I made the "Easy File Transfer" to the new Win 7 machine, but didn't know I needed to do that. Several years ago I had imported the files into Outlook, although that data did transfer it is now way out-of-date and full of duplicates. The up-to-date data is still in my old machine and also in an external hard drive backup. I have isolated the Outlook Express personal folders into .dbx format and the addresses into .wab format. Is there a way this can be reformatted into Outlook? Or is there some other way? I would probably also need to delete what is already in Outlook first, or I would have many more duplicates.

whatever i try to do on my outlook that has to do with .PST file management results in a crash where outlook quitsif i go to control panel > mail settings > data files 2 of the files that are in use (& work) do not show up, one of them the default mail delivery .PST. in these two, trying to access the advanced properties gives an error:The operation failed. An object could not be found.now - general googling tells me that recreating the profile could perhaps fix this - but i would love to avoid that as there's no manageable UI to set up the email accounts and there's many in use.event log on trying to open a pre-existing .PST that's not in the current profile:

I created a folder called contacts ad exported all 1100 contacts into that folder. I copied that folder to another computer but for the life of me I can't figure out how to import these contacts into Live Mail, Windows 7. I guess it isn't saved as a wab file, just a bunch of contacts in a folder.

Did a Windows Live Essentials update, after which, my email contacts were all gone. I did system restore, exported the old addys to a folder. After closing Windows Live Mail, I could not reopen without re-doing the update install. So, I did. When I went to the CONTACTS tab (bottom left) it never really opens. It clears the emails or calendar, from the main window but leaves the same 'ribbon' (or task bar or whatever at the top). It doesn't show the options that should be there for 'contacts' (no import/export/etc). If it matters, I do not sign in to Windows Live Mail. When I open it, there's always a a popup that says I've tried to sign-in too many times with the wrong info.

I can not find a way to paste information into my Windows Live Mail.
I copied a cell number from a Facebook conversation and tried to paste it to a record in my WLM contacts. No Dice. It seems to accept pastes into most of the other fields but phone #s, email addresses and websites are not allowed.
Does anyone know if this is some kind of security setting? I poked around in the WLM options and couldn't find anything.

It looks like it should be easy.I start off by clicking on " contacts" at the bottom left (below "calendar" and above "feeds")Then , being sure to highlight a contact , I click on the tab underneath where it says "export" (at the top near the middle -just to the right of where it says import and to the left of where it says "directories") and am invited to choose between .csv or .vcf formats.I choose one of these and nothing happens...I imagine I have failed to spot the next step... unless the program is at faultI need to do this as I want to backup the program prior to uninstalling and replacing it since there is a small problem that recurrs each time I open it...

I just reinstalled Windows Live Essentials (Windows Live mail) for the second time, but the contact page again is totally empty. There are no contacts on the contact page. Contact page headers do not even appear, giving me no option to import contacts. The header from the preceding choice remains. If you right click on an email address and choose 'Add sender to contacts', the box comes up to fill in the information, but it does not appear on the contact page.
