I got my Radeon 6570 today and I installed it, but now Windows won't boot it just gives me the blinking white dash. So I removed the card, switched back to onboard from BIOS and it still didn't work. I tried a lot of other stuff but it didn't work so I reinstalled Windows with the graphics card removed (Hoping it would reinstall the drivers for the onboard video) it didn't. So then I tried booting from an old Linux disc I found and it worked (how I am typing) but Windows still won't. I ran a diagnostics text and everything is working, and I can even access all my personal files on my old Windows install from Linux so I know that it's active.
I have several hours working on laptop that suddenly wont startup OS win 7. When I turn on laptop shows HP main logo (Press "ESC" key to enter start up menu) and after that shows a white dash flashing on the top left corner. I tried system repair disc, but it didnt work. I tried to restore system to an earlier point and didnt work either, it showed an error (0x8000ffff). I tried to restore to factory settings using F11 key but it only shows the white blinking. I already tried everything I found on the internet but no success.
I have a Sony Vaio laptop with an upgrade to windows 7 from vista. Yesterday my computer was really slow so I reset it to try and speed it up. I got passed the Vaio screen but then came the black screen with the blinking dash on the top right corner. The only thing I can enter is BIOS with F2 nothing else works. I can't enter safe mode or anything else. I've tried a few things, but nothing works.
1. Reseting default values in BIOS
2. Removing everything but internal Hard Drive in boot menu.
I have a windows & start up disc
3. Ran Startup Repair: Says couldn't detect a problem if recently attached device then remove it. ( Nothings Connected)
4. System restore ( was successfull but still no go)
5. Ran chkdsk & chkdsk/r from command prompt option
I also contacted Sony Support and with the 15 minutes alotted
6. Reseated memory
I just want to be able to get into the computer one more time so I can transfer my music and some other important files to my External Hard Drive.
I have a dell pc with windows 7. The computer loads the dell logo, the screen is black with the blinking line in the corner. I have tried all solutions that I have come across, the fixboot, replacing config files and last resort, I did a fresh install of windows. After the fresh install of windows, it worked for a few days and now it is doing it again. What is my next option?
I tried Linux yesterday, and wrote over my previous Windows bootloader files with GRUB.
I later that day (as I could not boot into Windows 7), I deleted the Linux partitions with Windows 7 DVD. Now, after BIOS I just get a white blinking border on a black screen.
So, Im doing a clean windows 7 install. Here are the facts: [code] After the final stage of the setup where you enter PC name, set the password, enter time settings etc, the setup restarts the computer for the 'final' time, final indeed. What happens is that after the Bios / device scan, Windows won't boot and it won't continue past the black screen with the white blinking _ showing in the top left.Could this be because C: has been 'occupied' (or set as master partition) by the 1480GB partition and won't boot from the 105GB partition where Windows was installed? It's so weird because the first two reboots go without problem, no need to F8 and manually select the disk rather than the USB pen or anything.. But on the final reboot, nothing.
I have a Dell Inspiron, not always but sometimes on start up it restarts to a black screen with a white cursor. Safe mode does work.I don't know why it sometimes does this or what makes it stop. I have tried just letting it try to load up for as long as an hour with no change, sometimes restarting has fixed it but sometimes (like now, it has done nothing no matter how many times I've tried).
My problem:-Computer restarted itself while I was working (I believe I had awindows update installed, and it restarted by itself)-Rebooting never gets past the Gateway logo.-What I see: Blinking cursor, even AFTER pressing F8.What I did:I tried F8 (to get into system restore) but all I can do it so into F2 and F12. When I press and hold down F8, the computer beeps 3 times. After that, any key I press will beep.My computer:-I have a Gateway netbook laptop, running on 64-bit Windows 7-I do not have a CD-ROM drive in my netbookI do not know what to do.
I started IT for a company a couple weeks ago. I get this tower with no idea what OS is installed. Is there a file that I can load through Trinity Rescue Kit that will tell me what version of Windows is installed on the system?
So I installed Windows 7 on my HD. The installation process went well. I chose my Username, password, etc, and then Windows prepares the Desktop for the first use, and then the PC automatically reboots.
The problem is that when the pc reboots after the final stage of the installation, Windows won't boot up and I get stuck with a blinking cursor. The only way I can boot up is when I turn on the PC and keep pressing F5 and then it takes me to a GRUB 0.4.4 Red Window like this one
When I chose the "alternative method", Windows boots with no problem. Is there a way to choose the alterative method as the default?
i have a lenovo thinkpad edge 14" running 64-bit windows 7 home premium. the laptop didn't come with any CD's, everything was pre-loaded on. all i get when i boot it is a black screen with a blinking cursor , when it boots all it shows is the thinkpad splash screen then straight to the blinking cursor. i have access to a lenovo x220 running the same (i.e. 64-bit Windows 7 home premium) however no CD drive, the edge 14" does have a cd drive. looked at multiple articles on seven forums but none of them help because i dont have a cd burner
I have a problem, a small 1 i hope: i can' t seem to login normally into windows, i end up getting stuck at a blinking login screen with the message "please wait". When i try booting through safe mode it is successful. I have no restore point to fall back 2. All i did was uninstall a windows clear theme, prior to this event i could not install any .themepack file as it ends up displaying "could not find the msstyles folder". Is there a way around this predicament of mine or do i have 2 format my hard disk?
My PC had been running sweet for about 2 years heavy gaming and music production then my psu blew up which i replaced and everything was gravy again. about 2 weeks later i was playing battlefield and i got a bsod citing pfn list, the first ever bsod with this pc. from then i was getting bsods with various different reasons pfn list and others i cant remember which. after much faffing getting nowhere i decided to try a fresh install of windows 7 64 on a new partition. at this point i had an old xp partition on one hard drive as well as on old win7 64 partition and my current win7 64 partition on a separate drive. i created a new partition on the same drive as my win7 partitions whilst in windows and shutdown to start the new install. everything looked to be going fine but then the windows install stopped saying files were missing. after this point my pc no longer shows my old partitions and i only get a blinking cursor when i try to boot from any drive other than the dvd drive. ive tried pulling ram, yanking the graphics card, pulling the battery out.
I used to have win xp installed after which i decided to try out the win 7 so i installed it on another HDD. After thhe install everything worked fine so i decided i can format the drive on which xp was installed before. Althought win 7 did let me format it because it was a system drive ( the old xp drive) i used some other tools to get rid of it thinking i can just do a fixboot and restore win 7 boot files. Now that the old system partition is gone win 7 wont boot, all i get isa black screen and a blinking cursor. I tried to boot from the win 7 dvd and do startup repair but still get the same issue.
i really dont want to reformat win 7 and install it again?
for some reason I can't even get into windows 7, after I get pass the screen that says "asus" , my laptop brand, It goes into a black screen with a blinking cursor in the left hand corner like this:
I'm unable to do anything at that point, it just blinks. I can't even boot into safe mode now, the only think I'm able to get into is the Bios Setup Utility menus and Asus' express gate, which is just a media/internet/gaming/skype thing that doesn't allow .exe files to run...
This came factory installed so I don't have a windows 7 disc to help run fixes or anything.
two day ago i turned on my pc as usual. But it did not boot, instead i got a black screen with blinking cursor, so is there any way to make my pc recover from this issue.
I've tried the f8 , it has No effect I even re installed the os but it does not work.. It does all installation work asks for my name and pc name . Then it does the video and perfomance testing . Then it restarts and i again get the blank screen with blinking cursor.
I have a new Dell Optiplex 790 that I'm trying to install Windows 7 Enterprise onto. It installs no problem, but afterwards, after post, it will just display a blinking cursor. If I hit F12 during post to go to the One-Time Boot Menu, there is an option for "Windows Boot Manager" and if I choose this, it boots fine. I have tried multiple disks, multiple hard drives, updating the BIOS version, both ATA and AHCI configurations in the BIOS, and even multiple machines, all brand new 790s. This problem seems to be hit or miss, as Windows 7 will install fine on some and will cause this problem on others. Also, I have tried installing EasyBCD and there are some issues with that. It will not display an option for Windows 7, so the boot menu is completely blank. It won't let me add any entries there either.
Can't get into windows, black screen with blinking cursor for some reason I can't even get into windows 7, after I get pass the screen that says "asus", my laptop brand, It goes into a black screen with a blinking cursor in the left hand corner like this: Click this bar to view the full image. I'm unable to do anything at that point, it just blinks. I can't even boot into safe mode now, the only think I'm able to get into is the Bios Setup Utility menus and Asus' express gate, which is just a media/internet/gaming/skype thing that doesn't allow .exe files to run. Ok computer has been doing scandsks for the last week all of a sudden when starting up and now it splashes the boot screen and hangs on the black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left.
heres what i have done so far:
1-booted from windows cd and did STARTUP REPAIR, it found my windows installation and finished without no problems - PROBLEM STILL EXISTS
2-command propmpt and fixboot command unsuccessful since it stays on x: dir and i cant find the c: dir for the right commands
3-SYSTEM RESTORE found no earlier restore points which i found odd but it is what it is.. lol..
4- went ahead and tried installation of windows to see if it recognized my drive on array and it did with the correct size and data.
I tried installing the regrun reanimator to see if it maybe was a root kit problem but the boot up disk didnt recognize my c drive either.
My mousepointer blinking and shows green spinning circle, this happens when I move mousepoint over desktop or task bar. I opened Task Manager and noticed hundreds explorer.exe processes are running, however only one Windows Explorer icon is displayed in the Task Bar.I guess that some program is always trying to start another instance of Windows Explorer. How can I trace it? How can I find a program (or a service, event, etc) which causing clogging of my computer?
I have purchased an OEM pc yesterday and I installed windows 7 x64 on it. Everything went great with installation. No errors or anything. But when I restarted my computer, after the motherboard splash screen a black screen with a blinking cursor top left appears and windows doesn't boot. But sometimes, especially when I wait a few minutes to turn it on it boots normally till I shut it down. It is so random.
My specs are: Motherboard: gigabyte 970a d-3 Memory: CORSAIR 4GB VENGEANCE DDR3 1600MHZ CL9(*2) CPU: AMD phenom ii x6 1100t black edition 3 .3ghz GPU: Sapphire hd 6870 1GHZ PSU:700watt OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

When i'm using my windows 7 at anywhere it somedays starts freezing and sound starts slowing and giving Buzz sound. When i move mouse or press keyboard it freezes like 0.5 sec and after that it's again ''normal'' untill i move/press again.I have noticed that my HDD goes NUTS whit reading if i move mouse alot or press buttons alot. Could it be HDD failure or it's in my windows 7?This bug happens pure random somedays i play over 6h whitout it but sometimes it can happen after booting computer.
I have found at least one other person that had a similar problem, but the information you provided for that problem doesn't seem to fit my symptoms. That person was seeing the message "please wait while connection is being established", I am not getting any messages, just a flashing black to white screen that stays white.
When booting, my screen will flash white. If the boot is successful, which is less than 50% of the time,I then see the loading windows screen and the computer goes ahead and boots normally. But, more often than not, I never see the booting windows screen and the monitor will just flash from black to white, several times, and then stays white. I do get the windows music to indicate that the boot was successful, but I can only see a blank white screen, no icons or mouse cursor. If I press the power button a couple of times, the system will usually eventually give me a screen that looks like the system was paused and is waiting for a user to be selected and a password to be entered. Once I am able to access the system, it seems to work normally. I have waited as long as 15 minutes or so to see if the boot will complete once I get the white screen, but it never seems to go any further.
I have checked for a virus using my virus checker, Viper antivirus, and checked for malware using malware bytes, but can find nothing. I even started a boot log to see if I could see any indication in the log file, but I can see nothing.
I built a custom computer last week. Whenever I boot up my computer. There is a White Dash in the top right hand corner of the screen. When Windows starts booting there are 3 Dashes in a row in the top left to middle of the screen. Windows boots fine though. Just wondering what it means.
I can no longer get the videos on MSN. The window for the video just turns white. I can hear the news but no video. The pictures without video works fine.
Can I upgrade from Windows ultimate 32bit ver 6.1 ( build 7600) to windows 7 ultimate 64bit edition and keep all of my installed programs and files ?[meaning not having them moved to a new folder called windows.old]
I was able to fix the d3d problem I was having early it was the drivers of course.
However,I have encountered a new problem, and I am not able to know what the reason might me.
As you can see windows which are white will create a reflection/smudge sort of ghost image on the screen which is also affected in screenshots, so that would rule out the monitor being faulty. [URL] Now there's a couple of different new things.. My new GPU which is a sapphire HD7770 The way that my monitor connects to the GPU which is a VGA cable going into a VGA to DVD-I adapater. And the AMD drivers which is the version 12.11 -beta-
I turn on my computer to eventually get a black screen with white cursor that will move around. The Toshiba insignia comes up beforehand as well as the windows four square icon then it is to this black screen and white cursor. I cant seem to get the computer to boot up from Windows 7 installation disc. Sometimes I also get a BOOTMGR image is corrupt. The system cannot boot. message as well. I imagine there is a solution of sorts as it seems many people have had a similar problem. I have a freind who maybe able to fix it seeing he is a computer programmer but that is not until the end of the week.
I bought the full retail Win 7 Ultimate and trying to upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate, both 32bit. I get to the Expanding Windows files to 21% and nothing. The program is still running and stuck at 21% but after waiting 3 hours I shut power off and Vista was reinstated. Why can't I get past 21% Expanding Windows files? I want to use the upgrade because I have a ton of programs on my Vista and don't want to spend days reinstalling them.
