View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 7000 x64 on a quad core intel box. Most things have been working great but I have been having one annoying problem, the screensaver won't start, and neither will the power saving settings (i.e. turning off monitor, computer sleep)
Basically I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and figured out what software or hardware could be causing it or if anyone knows of a tool to check what input is keeping the computer out of the idle state.
My laptop will not time out and go into my screensaver. I have read several answers on help forums and nothing is working. I have an HP notebook with Windows 7 and am currently using Google chrome (if that matters).
View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving recently changed from Windows XP to Windows 7 I've found that I can't print several pics at once as I did before. Then it was easy - you just selected one pic then it gave you the chance to put ticks next to all the ones you wanted to print, but now only giving option of one at a time so takes ages.

I could not find the correct thread to post so please accept my apologies if this is an old resolved bug. This has been winding me for a while now, but today it has totally done my head in.! when I access my music folders from external USB and I click on a folder the grey bar at the top of the folder window takes ages to move across... then I get the red cross in the button. This is a major problem now, the cpu fan goes crazy and well its quite disturbing. To get around this I would access my file from within the music editing software to avoid this problem, but as I'm a Mastering Engineer I need to access the files in their respective folders.
This was never a problem on any other machine I have had before. All drives are fine tested on other machines. They are good. So today I tried it again, same thing. The grey bar at the top went crazy when I tried to access a wav folder to master with 2.5 gigs of data in.The grey bar at the top slowly moves across the top then the red cross thing again in the button, I refresh and the same thing again. Meanwhile the fan goes on and the thing then seems to hang on finding files in folders. So I back out of the folder close it down. Then I went to My computer on the start menu... erm the grey bar again slowly moves to the right, No C drive shows up is empty and the fan kicks in and it sounds like it is going to take off. Then I have to close the machine down as it cannot find anything in thefolders. This is very strange indeed. This only happen when I search for files in folders before hand, normally I can see my drives when I click my computer.I have just rebooted the laptop now and it is good but when I open a folder it goes nuts.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Desktop running Win 7 Home premium and have recently installed Win 7 Professional on my laptop. I want to transfer the desktop and other settings (MS Office) and files from the desktop to the laptop. The desktop has 2 drives, one with Windows and program files and the other with User Data. My laptop has one drive partitioned with a similar setup, Windows and Programs on the C: partition and User Data on the D: partition. When I try to transfer I get the message the transfer cannot take place because there is not enough room and to delete some files to make room. The problem seems to be that the transfer wizzard is trying to transfer everything from the Desktop to the C: drive of the laptop, rather than C: to C: and D: to D:. Is there a way around this ? I have tried to map the drives but it wont let me do that!
Secondly, if I only try to transfer fewer files, I am told the Desktop is not connected to the domain, but I have not set up a domain and when I try on the desktop, the option is greyed out.
Currently I am using 80 GB SATA Seagate HDD as my system drive and would like to purchase a bigger drive. In this Seagate HDD I have 2 partitions, C 40 GB and D 40 GB.Suppose I purchase a new drive and make a 200 GB C partition, is there a way to successfully transfer everything including the settings and Windows from the old 40 GB on Seagate to the new 200 GB partition?I'm thinking about Norton Ghost but have never had any experience of using it for this kind of scenario.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it was possible to transfer the files/settings from my PC to my laptop, i.e. I would basically like to copy the exact profile I have on my PC to my laptop.
My PC is HP running Windows Home Premium 32bit and my laptop is Dell running Windows Home Premium 64bit.
I was finally able to get HomeGroups working on my PC and the HTPC.
My brother downloads videos (Top Gear) through my PC and would like to be able to transfer them to his afterwards.
It seems I'm able to copy the files from my PC to the HTPC, but not cut them. It mentions that he (HTPC) needs administrative permission.
What settings do I need to enable him to cut the files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy family's desktop has reset back to factory settings seemingly by itself. This has happened before but I was able to do a system restore and bring back all the settings, files, and programs. I tried the same thing today but the restore failed (it still failed after I followed its advice to turn the anti-virus off and then run restore) so I've got a large amount of files (pictures, music, documents) missing that I am hoping are still on the hard drive somewhere.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it just me or has Win 7 stopped the ability to move more than one group of files/folder at a time?
For example, I'm trying to transfer some music album folders to a USB or another folder. I drag and drop the first album in there, but I have to wait to the progress box to finish before I can drag the next one/group in there.
I KNOW this was never a problem with XP, where every group of files/folders your moved/copied would open a new progress box, each doing their own thing. Why would such a basic function have changed?
When I am using Windows Explorer, recently I've noticed that MPG files are showing inaccurate length of time and resolution. As an example, I have a 1 hour MPG [720 * 480 resolution] and Windows Explorer says the length is 173 hours, 37 minutes and 16 seconds! If I go into the Details tab from the Properties of the file, it claims the bit rate is 40kbps.
