My Windows 7 home premium became corrupted and I was advised by Microsoft support that I needed to do a clean re-install. The first tech I spoke with said it could be done so that none of my programs would be lost. But other techs told me this was not correct. At this point I'm not comfortable with the reliability of information from Microsoft so thought I would ask here. Does a re-install cause loss of all programs?

Skype is running but if I use it to talk to someone, connection drops after a few minutes then comes back on after anywhere from a few seconds to longer, does the same thing when using Msn Messenger voice chat.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am going to reinstall windows 7 on my SSD but when I built my computer a few weeks ago I used a 60gb SSD for windows and a separate HDD for files, programs, etc. Now I am wondering how reinstalling windows 7 will affect the program files on the separate HDD. I'm figured the OS recognizes the programs on my separate HDD b/c it installed them there. But if I install a new OS how can I tell it to recognize the program file on my separate HDD? Or am I S.O.L. and I need to delete the programs folder and reinstall everything fresh with the fresh OS?
View 5 Replies View RelatedDue to a windows crash, I had to reinstall windows 7 (64 bit). My windows files in on an SSD and most all of my programs are on another SATA drive. The windows install went through, but none of the programs from the other drive show up when I click on the start button/all programs (somewhat understandable). Is there any quick way to get all of the programs (office, photoshop, etc.) that are on my D drive to appear where you click on "all programs"? Also, can I just delete my windows.old folder from my C drive to free up space? Any reason it is needed? Do I just delete it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 64bit. I have two DVD drives "D" and "F" both connected by Sata to the motherboard (Asus MA78 Pro).
"D" is fine. "F" disappears! Not shown in "Computer" or "Control panel" I have tried all the registry hacks I can find, together with all other advice from the 'web, to no avail.
If I open the case, unplug and reconnect the power cable, Win 7 will immediately recognise the drive and install the drivers. All is fine for a few days before "F" vanishes again. No alteration to the computer is done during this time.
I want to format my laptop, but I don't want to lose the genuine Windows that came with it, can I make a copy or something else? to a CD/DVD/USB Drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had Windows 7 RC1 for a few months now, and up until now it's been working flawlessly. Now when I'm doing anything, I click with the mouse, the window loses focus to another window. This is hard to describe but I've noticed that some of the open programs on the taskbar also disappear but then reappear almost instantly while this is happening. If I have multiple programs open they'll even rearrange the order (not the pinned programs), ie: firefox open and i have control panel open, firefox will flicker, lose focus, then the program icon will disappear from the left of the control panel and then be on the right, as if I had opened it after I had opened Control Panel.
It might be important to note that I just installed a windows update yesterday, that's the only thing I've really changed.
I'm running a Dell XPS M1530, 2 gigs of ram, and I have about 8 gigs free on my windows drive. I'm running a GeForce 8600M GT driver version 176.44 (forceware drivers). I use a Logitech VX Nano mouse.
I don't even really know how to diagnose the problem - I was thinking maybe driver issues or maybe even a mouse issue
I reinstalled windows 7 about an hour ago.The reason I decided to reinstall was because I was having the minor annoyance of windows losing focus, as if I had clicked the taskbar or something (but I didn't).The problem is still here. I just reinstalled, I got rid of windows.old, and task manager reports a whopping 36 processes running. The only programs I have installed are Firefox, Flash, and Microsoft Security Essentials. I have visited no suspicious websites in the past half hour.What the heck do I do now? There are absolutely NO programs that I know of that could possibly be causing this problem. I can only conclude that it must be malware. If so, how can I reinstall again so that there is nothing left behind from the old installation? Because windows.old was there, maybe whatever was on my old install carried over.

I also recently downloaded skype to talk to family overseas. Almost every time I am having a conversation, I suddenly lose the connection. However, I lose a connection at other times also. Skype doesn't have to be running for it to lose the connection. There seems to be no ryhme or reason for this. I ran a scan on my virus protection, but it reveals no threats. I am not so computer savvy either, only the basics.

It does not happen on any set routine or anything, just randomly.If I restart I do not get the drive back, however, If I shut it down and plug the drive into a different port it recognizes it again. I've gone back to the same port numerous times so none of the ports are bad.

A few days back my laptop slid and fell down, and since then i have had this trouble. My windows is not loading up.....it takes me to a black screen.

I recently installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on a machine utilising an Asus M4N82 Deluxe motherboard. I subsequently installed all current drivers for use with Windows 7 64 bit for the Mobo downloaded from the Asus website. Windows 7 itself found current drivers for the peripherals that it supports. For the first few days all ran well without any issues. Then Win 7 ran some updates and now whenever I awake my computer from sleep mode it tells me that the audio driver is not installed. No audio drivers display in Device Manager either. The sound,video, and audio controllers entry is simply gone! A restart brings it back--or has so far--but what is causing it and is there anything I can do? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver to no avail. From web searches this seems to be a common problem with no clear answer which likely means it is an issue with MS at the root of it and unwilling or unable to address it.

My pc won't logon anymone, the pc lost power while it was in standby and I can't seem to boot it anymore.I'm stuck at just after you put in your password, the spinning circle & welcome screen. I can still move the mouse ( 2nd screen shows mouse movement) and press any of the lock keys so the pc is not frozen, it's as if it is waiting for something.The res is fine on both my screens and I did get audio when it went to the logon screen.The HDD led is not burning.It's simply doing, erm, nothing.It DOES boot into safe mode normally.chkdsk found no problems.Windows startup repair says no problems and successful boot.One more thing, in the logon screen where you enter your password, the other pop up menus like the accessibility menu or the menu to reboot/shutdown/standby/hibernate/etc also DO NOT work if I try that instead of logging in, I click on them and it's like the logon screen freezes but I can still move the mouse. this does not happen in safe mode.No changes have been made since 16 jun, no windows updates, perhaps an app update or 2 ( avast upgraded to v7 iirc, required reboot and this is the first time I cold booted in weeks/I haven't rebooted it since after the last batch of updates around the 16th). I usually do not turn my pc off ever, this is the first cold boot in 2 weeks so It's hard for me to say what changed, but I know it was not a windows update or anything as I only do those manually once per 1 or 2 months.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate built from scratch, (although this same issue happened before the rebuild, from an upgrade to Windows 7 Pro from Windows Vista); Windows 7 is build 7600.I have a multiple monitor setup and Outlook runs on the r/h screen. When I use Outlook 2007, I click new mail, and the new message window opens on the l/h screen. Same when I click reply or forward. Whether I am opening a new message, or replying/forwarding an existing message, sometimes, (and it really is sporadic), the new message window won't take focus. So when I started to type, my focus shoots up and down on the Outlook window; e.g. if I hit H to start typing H, it will try and jump to a message starting with H.

The problem I'm getting is that constantly now the laptop losing its internet connection (goes to limited connectivity) or cannot connect then when i try troubleshooting/diagnosing/open the network center as soon as i run the troubleshooting etc the laptop freezes then the only way it will work again is to turn it off and back on, I would then get an internet connection again, sometimes for half an hour but often no more than five minutes.
I'm pretty sure the wireless Internet is not the issue as the fault occurs exactly the same at
- My house
- Girlfriends house
- and has also happened when using a friends wireless at his place
So the same internet connection fault occurs at three separate connections which leads me to believe its the laptop playing up.
Is is possible to change from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional without losing files? Both are 64 bit.

Now I have a legal Enterprise Win 7 64 bit. disc from work and I want to install the Enterprise on the notebook and still maintain all the apps and Outlook mails etc. Is this possible or am I going to have to spend another 2 weeks reinstalling everything and no longer having the toshiba apps that came with the original start up/recovery disc?
