Jan 18, 2012trying to reinstall a old outlook email program on a new windows 7 machine ,I copied all files on computer before I renstalled the OS 7 operating system but didn't know about outlook export program,so all I have are what I coied in the windows mail folder not sure if this will retrieve email account, the account is on anther computer still up and going?

Jul 7, 2011My Windows 7 home premium became corrupted and I was advised by Microsoft support that I needed to do a clean re-install. The first tech I spoke with said it could be done so that none of my programs would be lost. But other techs told me this was not correct. At this point I'm not comfortable with the reliability of information from Microsoft so thought I would ask here. Does a re-install cause loss of all programs?

Mar 22, 2012I am going to reinstall windows 7 on my SSD but when I built my computer a few weeks ago I used a 60gb SSD for windows and a separate HDD for files, programs, etc. Now I am wondering how reinstalling windows 7 will affect the program files on the separate HDD. I'm figured the OS recognizes the programs on my separate HDD b/c it installed them there. But if I install a new OS how can I tell it to recognize the program file on my separate HDD? Or am I S.O.L. and I need to delete the programs folder and reinstall everything fresh with the fresh OS?

May 28, 2012Due to a windows crash, I had to reinstall windows 7 (64 bit). My windows files in on an SSD and most all of my programs are on another SATA drive. The windows install went through, but none of the programs from the other drive show up when I click on the start button/all programs (somewhat understandable). Is there any quick way to get all of the programs (office, photoshop, etc.) that are on my D drive to appear where you click on "all programs"? Also, can I just delete my windows.old folder from my C drive to free up space? Any reason it is needed? Do I just delete it?

When I right click on the file, and click send to email recipient, i get an error telling me no email program is associated to perform this action.I don't have any stand alone email program s installed. I strictly use web based email (gmail & hotmail) as my mail programs. I do not wish to install a stand alone program such as outlook or Thunderbird. In XP and using Opera browser, if I clicked on an web page's email link, my email client (Sylpheed) would open with the address inserted. With Win 7 and the email defaults set, it won't. Instead, it always returns an "Internal communication error" page (example link: Contact Us | PCWorld). Below are screenshots of my Win 7 email defaults and Opera preferences setting. One thing I'm not sure about, if it's at all relevant, is where Opera is picking up the default application from. In XP, it picked up Opera email as the default. The Other Application file location shown is exactly the same in both, except for the drive letter.

Feb 3, 2013Every time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.

Aug 27, 2011I just spent the last half day fixing a laptop, had to buy a new hard drive and reinstall the OS from recovery discs. (Win 7 64 bit, on Satellite Toshiba) I just noticed that I did not install it with a partition for the OS, Is this going to be a big problem at some point? I had checked off "Factory Settings" when installing, I just assumed that it would have installed with a partition. Before I go any further with this laptop I would like to have some input please. I just spent the last 3 hours installing updates and finally SP1.

All the tests passed but the problems were still continuing. They eventually decided to reinstall my OS which is Windows 7 and everything's been working fine except my computer is a lot slower and frequently feels laggy where they mouse would freeze up for a few seconds or move slowly across the screen. I have already tried cleaning out my registry with CCleaner and tried defragmenting but to no avail. I was wondering if there is another way to solve my computer lag problem.

Startup repair tried to do his things but it failed(and did an endless loop in trying to do so). I couldn't boot in safe mode, I couldn't do anything. I resorted to reinstalling Windows 7 using my CD. I took the custom installation rather than the upgrade because the upgrade would essentially lead to the endless startup repair loot. Now, after everything was done, it's said my old Windows is still on the computer under the file name ''Windows old'', I checked and it is indeed there. Wouldn't there be a way to reinstall Windows old? I really don't want to be forced to reinstall all my drivers and updates.
