Windows 7 MIDI Input Problem?
Apr 1, 2012
I tried to attach a M-audio 88es USB MIDI keyboard to my Dell Studio 1747 laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium x64). The keyboard is correctly identified on the USB, M-audio's drivers installed and this shows up in any MIDI software I start, but nothing can be transmitted from the keyboard to the computer. The usb keyboard works with other computers, and the Dell Studio sound system can play MIDI files. To make sure I alternated to an external Creative XFi soundblaster audio unit, which should have all MIDI capabilities, but again no sound from the keyboard (actually, a field in the recording software would show up if MIDI instructions were received).

I've been in contact with MS Support, about that in the Windows 7 Sound panel there is no longer the ability to change MIDI Port from the internal GS Wavetable synth, and got confirmed that they've removed this, both for Vista and Windows 7"The ability to choose a different hardware or software MIDI synthesizer other than the default Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth has been removed from the user interface for audio configuration in Windows Vista/Windows 7. A different output MIDI synth or output device port can be selected only by editing the registry".I really want to select the MPU-401 compatible MIDI Port, so I can make use of my old Roland MT-32 and the old Sierra games through DOS-Box

I've been having a major problem with for over several months. I've recently started to make music and I'm interested in using some of the MIDI capabilities on several of the instruments I have, mainly drum machines and synthesizers. The problem is Windows 7 is not detecting these MIDI to USB interface devices and instruments I have.I've tried using three interface devices so far with no luck what-so-ever. I've tried different two types of MIDI to USB cables, these are generally small, and they both work because I tested them on my friends Macbook and they were 100% functional. So, I decided maybe I should get a better piece of recording equipment, thinking there would be better platform support, so I purchased a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB, low and behold, I had the same problem! The MIDI to USB cables and the Focusrite interface detect the MIDI IN coming from the MIDI OUT port of the instrument, however Windows is not reading the converted MIDI information running through the USB cable into the computer. Here's a list of the solutions I've tried.Updating my chipset drivers. Uninstalling and re-installing chipset drivers. Un-installing and re-installing my sound drivers. Using the latest USB drivers (and even beta drivers) and utilities provided by the interface products. Trying different USB ports assuming it was a power issue. Uninstalling and re-installing the product drivers, rolling back to older drivers as well. Updating Windows. Tested under two different DAWS; CuBase and Sony ACID. I also tried different stand-alone soft-synths, they didn't detect the MIDI devices either. I've tried a few obscure MIDI drivers I dug up from a few places, but to no avail, I un-installed them. I've tried sacrificing 3 goats to Microsoft, that didn't work either. I'm convinced that this is a Windows / Hardware compatibility issue. I'm tempted to get a Mac product so I don't have to worry about this time pilfering fiasco. If anyone would like to take a stab at this I would be very grateful. Here's my system specs:

I am considering getting rid of my CME-UF5 Midi keyboard since there is no possibility of running it under Windows 7 and purchasing something new. Although I did like the quality and weight of the keys with CME vs M-Audio, I suspect M-Audio would have much better driver support and customer support for future updates, CME was certainly lacking in this department considering they didn't even provide a Vista driver for this damn thing. I browsed through forums and it seems that someone had created their own Vista driver for it by modyfing the XP one while others claimed that due to the hardware inside this keyboard, there would be no way to run it outside of an 32bit XP environment.

I have a Roland PC-200 mkII midi controller connected to the PC via a MIDI to USB converter. The system claims to recognise it, and sets up a USB2.0-MIDI device with two hardware items: USB Composite Device and USB2.0-MIDI (sound, video and game controllers).
The keyboard is recognised - and sends MIDI signals. However, it will only send one at a time now, meaning it will only play single notes rather than chords. This is independent of whatever programme runs with it, indicating that it's a problem between the keyboard and Windows 7. The keyboard worked properly on Vista32 and previously on XP.
My mobo will not accept a direct MIDI (game port) connection, so I have no choice but to use the converter.
Am I missing any settings in Windows 7?

I'm having problems getting my Usb MIDI to work in my music software. It used to work, but one day it just magically stopped working. I was about to make a dumb mistake and buy a new $60 Usb MIDI cable, but then I checked in device manager and I noticed that Windows WAS recognizing the Usb MIDI cable. It even said "This device is working properly." The MIDI Input light on the cable blinks when I press the keyboard's(piano) keys when I first plug it in, then stops after a while. It's supposed to be plug-n-play. When I first got it, no driver download was needed. I plugged it in, and it worked. I was thinking it may need a driver update? Or maybe a new driver? [code]

I have a Yamaha YPT-300 model keyboard that I am attempting to hook up to my Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit machine via a MIDI-to-USB cable. (The cable came with this eMedia USB MIDI Keyboard Interface Kit.) The drivers for the USB/MIDI cable installed without issue, but my system does not appear to recognize the Yamaha keyboard. I attempted to install the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver, but it raises an error. ("Error 25001. No device is connected. Connect a device, and try again.") The MIDI/USB cable has two lights that blink when everything's working properly; one of the lights is blinking, the other is not. The light that isn't blinking appears to be related to the plug for the MIDI IN jack on the keyboard, if that helps. Some of the simpler stuff ... I've got the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT cables plugged into the right jacks on the keyboard. (i.e., the MIDI IN plug goes to MIDI OUT jack, and vice versa -- it makes sense when you think about it.) The cables are not loose. I've googled all around for an answer, but I've found nothing but dozens of topics with no solutions or topics addressing something else altogether. And yes, I have tried turning it off and on again.

I want to hook up a MIDI keyboard to my computer so I can take computer-based playing lessons.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. I have a generic MIDI-USB cable. I plug it in, Windows recognizes it, and installs a driver. I plug the MIDI In cable into the Out socket of a Yamaha PSR260 keyboard, and Out into In, and power on the keyboard. On the MIDI-USB cable, the red power light is on, and the In LED is flashing. So far, so good, but now I'm having troubles.
I think that I need to install a Yamaha MIDI driver in order for Windows to recognize my device. I downloaded the UM312x64 package, but when I run setup.exe, it gives me "Error 25001. No device is connected."

If I remove the midi file from the page, then the page functions properly. I went to my "Manage Add-Ons" and WMP is enabled. What else can I do?

My new PC with windows 7 won't detect my old Acer v243w monitor. I was hoping to use dual monitors, with this monitor connected via vga into the motherboard and my other monitor connected by DVI into the graphics card. The graphics card I am using is a Radeon HD6870. It has DVI slots and an HDMI slot but no VGA slot.
Even when the Acer is plugged into the motherboard by itself using VGA it does not get detected then either.
Is it simply a case of getting a lead which will convert my VGA lead from the Acer monitor into a DVI output which I can then plug into the graphics card?
Or perhaps there is a way of enabling VGA support, maybe via the graphics card or something? It seems odd to have a VGA socket in the motherboard if it is not going to work.

Windows will happily output sound to my headset but there is no input from the mic. I have a xonar dg as my soundcard. The headset mic has been tested on a laptop and works The microphone mute button the the headset cable is set correctly The jack is correctly in On plugging in (and fiddling with the jack) the mic I can see noise in CP/Sound window It has been tested on the front panel, the soundcard jack & motherboard jacks Drivers have been wiped and reinstalled System restores had no effect A reinstallation of windows keeping programs & settings had no effect The mic is not muted or set too low in Control Panel / Sound The mic in my webcam works correctly (USB) Connections inside the case are not loose Toggling the front mic option in Cp/Sound/Recording/(the mic)/properties/custom has no effect I also managed to get the mic to work (badly) for a few seconds after windows reinstalled. After I plugged in the headphone jack, the mic went dead and hasn't recovered since. The mic has worked on this PC before, it seems some setting / software / driver is mucking up.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64.When I plug ANY Xbox 360 controller into my computer, it says "Unknown Device.I went to the Microsoft website to directly download the Xinput drivers, and when I went to download the, Windows Genuine tool, it 404'd on me, as the download page was gone, and it's still like that for me. I then found a direct download from Microsoft for the Xinput driver and it says "Not enough storage is available to process this command." Just to let you know my temp folder is clear, I have 16gigs of ram, and 573 GB free on my HDD, so it's a program error. I look far and wide on the internet for drivers, and I even download a Xbox 360 controller emulator (which is actually cool, it allows you to inject xinput drivers into any game) but it still didn't provide the base drivers I need I'm probably going to reformat again because it sadly seems like it's the only fix,

I just bought a Lenovo v570 laptop with vga and hdmi output and I cannot get the hdmi to output to my tv. The tv is a vizio 47" 3d LCD and the laptop is running windows 7 home 64bit. I have tried windows graphics drivers, lenovo drivers and intel drivers. To me there is not much difference between them but who knows. The laptop will output to tv using vga and it will connect to an LG 42 inch LCD at my work using hdmi, just not to the one I have at home. I have tried everything that I can think of as far as settings go and on my tv as well. Nothing changes whatever I do. Does anyone know of any hardware compatibility between some vizio tvs and windows 7? I have seen one on the compatibility website for windows but it was not my tv. Mine is not listed. The model number for my tv is E3D470VX. Not sure what else to try. Next I guess I will call Vizio to see if they can work out the problem. Lenovo support doesn't know.

I have an Issue when I go into the device manager of my Windows 7 64 bit desktop pc it says: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver. This is for the pci input device."
I tried updating the drivers and it says windows could not find the drivers for this device if you know the manufacturer go to there website. I tried searching for the drivers manually through the list that windows gives you but said it couldn't find them either. I have a Creative audigy 2 sound card and when I go to update the driver from the audigy 2 it says that it can't find drivers even though they are installed and the sound card is working.
Nothing indicates that they are installed except for the fact that it does show a driver date and version. I have the latest drivers. From 3 something 2012 I tried updating the drivers from creatives website but it said no hardware device could be detected on my system. Should I maybe reinstall the card? Just put it back into the same slot on my motherboard?

I was using my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6) just fine recently, and through half of yesterday. I did what I normally do when I leave a friends house...I shut it down correctly using the shut down option at the start menu, then pack it into my laptop bag (has a padded sleeve it fits into) and came home. Later that evening I tried to boot it up like normal. For some reason the wireless card takes forever to load and connect, so I typically turn it on and leave it there while I do something else. When I came back the PC said it was locked, which it never usually locks, especially after only 10 minutes. I unlocked the PC and it had my options for monitors (monitor only, expanded, monitor and tv, etc). I selected the PC monitor only and tried to load things like normal. Loaded a few programs and went to send an IM and the keyboard seemed to be stuck on the g or 8 key and wouldn't allow me to stop the input unless I clicked on the desktop. I could not click back in and delete it. Attempts to do so made the screen lock and give me the monitor options again.
At this point I figured it had to be virus/malware related so I tried to reboot into safe mode with networking. I got the options to come up but it was like the up arrow was stuck and wouldn't allow me to manually control and select an option. Had to hard reboot with the power key to try again. This time it would not move at all. I have two pc's and both have tTamviewer so I opened it on both and was able to remote in and do some scans. Spybot found a few things as well as Malwarebytes and I selected remove selected. Rebooted and still having the same issue. Tried scanning using my Avast Internet Security 7 scan and let it run overnight with Malwarebytes again. Malwarebytes brought back a PUP.funmoods (which I have uninstalled in add/remove programs and, while annoying it's showing up, don't believe to be the case because that was uninstalled months ago) and I had a huge list of files in Avast that said they could not be scanned. I have tried using system restore. I do notice when Windows boots up, it shows an empty command prompt box that eventually disappears and then a second one comes up later that says:
"AMD accelerated video transcoding device initialized Copyright (c) 2012 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. All rights Reserved."
I did recently update my graphics card (ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650) to the latest driver. I have tried rolling back the driver and still no option. I entered the command in the command prompt to run check disk at next boot but it does not run or give an error. It just seems to skip it and go straight to Windows. A friend thought it was simply the input items on my PC giving it issues because the problem wasn't happening through Teamviewer on my Dell PC, however, that started exhibiting similar problems but not on the same scale.

Intel Core i7 CPU
q720 @1.60 GHz
8GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

I'm running Windows 7 Home N SP1 x64. I'm using an M-Audio Fast-Track Pro device to record audio into a music sequencer (Cubase 5), through a Shure SM58 Microphone. The M-Audio box is connected to the computer via USB. I've been using this set-up for about a year now and it hadn't caused me any problems until the last few weeks. For some reason Windows is not registering any signal from the input of the M-Audio box. The box itself picks up the sound and I can hear tapping on the microphone when M-Audio is selected as the output device, but not from the built-in speakers.
I first noticed the problem in the software (and thought for the longest time that it was the software). I'm very competent with Cubase and tried everything I could think of to get it to register with no avail. It was only when I tried to use the device on another sequencer that I realised that it's not the software. Then, since the mic works fine, the box itself is picking up the signal and out-putting it through itself, it must be something wrong with the computer or the OS.
I've re-installed the M-Audio driver, didn't make any difference. I've set the M-Audio as default in both playback and recording tabs in the sound control panel. Playback works fine. One thing that's really strange is that when I open manage sound drivers in the control panel and tap on the mic, neither the levels in recording nor playback even flutter, even though I can hear it pretty clearly through the headphones.

We're running an Oracle application that requires the jinitiator 1.3.1.22 on the client pc. Prior to Windows7 we only had a problem that required replacing the jvm.dll file within the Jinitiator installation folder. With Windows7 64bit and/or 32bit, we're seeing where some clients can open IE9 and get the popup logon screen as expected but nothing you type will show in the logon area until you click outside of the window and then come back to it. We've noticed that unless the cursor is blinking in the logon window it will not display anything that is typed (unless you click outside the window and come back to it). However, some users can use the 32bit IE and never have a problem. Sometimes you'll get a message that Windows is changing the basic theme.

Yesterday my computer crashed, but I got it working quite quickly again. But when I was to write to my friends in a chat (I am swedish) I realized i could not write any swedish letters. And all the 1-9 shift functions were moved or gone too. It has taken me a while to figure out where the functions are now (like ? ! @ etc). So anyway I thought that the input language must be acting wierd. and when I were to look what language i had on, there were none. No input languages. None. I cant add, because there are no languages to add. They all are gone.

Im having a tricky question I thought I had answered. I have a 32-bit Win7 machine that I just unpackaged and setup for a user. I was having problems with windows not responding to mouse or keyboard commands after what I thought was a sleep issue. I disabled hibernation, sleep, hybrid sleep, HDD power downs. Now the computer just turns off the monitor, User always turns off his PC and actively uses it all day. I thought this had fixed the problem, I just left it running in my office and would just make sure it responded. I just installed the new machine last night thinking I had fixed the problem. As the user was typing an email he "Claims" that the screen just went dark and he couldn't get it to come back on. The light on the monitor showed activity (Wasn't the orange sleep light) but wu9ld not return from this state. I have to manually power down when it does this.

i have a windows 7 computer that i got second hand from a computer repair place. it's a new install, but not genuine apparently. all this computer is used for is surfing the net on a large monitor/watching netflix/hulu/Internet.so, had a few bsod problems with netflix and similar, but nothing big, until monday. on monday, it suddenly wouldn't take any input from the mouse after the first few clicks. sunday night it worked fine, the most recent change was an installation of dvd decrypter on friday. however, monday it will load up, allow me to click past the "not genuine" screen, and maybe click one or two more things, then any time i click above the taskbar, there is no response. the weirdness is that i can do anything from the taskbar. open/close new programs, access the windows menu, etc. but if i click an open window, it deselects it, like i had clicked an empty portion of desktop. this also occurs if i click an icon on the desktop. the keyboard works fine, and it's part of a wireless set.
i tried cold-booting it, and a new mouse, neither worked.finally, i did a system restore to about 3 days ago. this seemed to restore complete functionality. however, i just found out from my wife that its' exhibiting similar symptoms-- she will go to netflix and everything will work fine, until she got to the page where something was playing, at which point it wouldn't accept commands again.
