Windows 7 - How To Confirm 1080P Signals Output To TV
Nov 24, 2011
I just picked up a new graphics card HD6750 for my HTPC. I am then connecting the HTPC via HDMI to an 1080p LED TV. How do I ensure that I am sending an 1080p signal to my TV? My TV manual states that the tv supports: 1080P 1920 x 1080P. So I know the TV can handle it. Do I simply set the Display settings to 1080P 1920?

New i5-8570k with Z77X-D3H build. SSD's & HD's. 1 backup HD is in a caddy (simple SATA connection, its not a raid device) with on/off switch. BIOS is AHCI by default. Installed Win7 Pro x64 then after chipset drivers with mobo DVD. IRST is installed but notes say it should be installed during o/s install. How to confirm AHCI is on? The drives aren't listed in safely remove/eject hardware icon in systray. HD Caddy is useless because hot swap isn't working or on.
Does the new Z77 chipset require the drivers to be installed during O/S install? I tried that with files on USB flash drive but Win7 prevented it because the drivers were unsigned. These are Intel's latest drivers for the Series 7 chipsets. I've tried to confirm whether i have AHCI on or not, 'AS SSD benchmark' detects 'iaStor'. I guess if the chipset drivers must be installed before o/s install then the question becomes "How to install Intel drivers that aren't signed during O/S install". There is no 'ignore & continue' option.

I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.
When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.
I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.

Once I turn off my monitor and turn it on again my TFT monitor has problems to get input signals again from the (running) computer. It remains dark with an indicator "no input signal" and I have to reboot the whole computer to get everything working again.I think whenever a monitor is turned on then NORMALLY the monitor sends a "hello I am alive again" signal to the graphic card. The graphic card knows then that it has to send stuff to the monitor. In my case there seems to be no such "Hello" signal from the monitor->graphic card.On the other hand I could simulate by manual keyboard strokes such an signal and force the graphic card to resume sending signals.

I have an old desktop I'm thinking about turning into an HTPC. I currently have an Nvidia Geforce 8800GT videocard, which says it supports 1080P: PNY
I'm trying to determine what is the best way to hook it up to my HDTV, which has both VGA and HDMI ports. Should I get a DVI --> HDMI Adapter for best resolution / clarity?
Or is hooking it up via VGA fine, even though I doubt I will get full 1080P performance.

I recently bought an ASUS laptop with this configuration: AMD Brazos Dual Core E350, 2GB ram memory which 1.6GB are usable and I guess that the rest it's for video and AMD Radeon HD 6310M graphic card, but i can't play 1080p movies. I have read some reviews and it says that can play smoothly 1080p movies...and i wonder why this isn't work.

I am planning to add some 1080p MKV files to a DVD+RW. I know I will probably have to convert them to a different format so that players can read them, but what format would you recommend I use and how should I go about it? Also I am wondering about the quality loss. To my understanding there will be a loss in quality, but will it be that significant? I want the video to look good, but I would like to use DVDs because I don't think my computer (Dell Inspiron N7110) can write to Blu-ray discs. And since that's the only way to put the files onto a Blu-ray (without buying a recorder for it) I am planning on using DVD+RW discs.

my laptop has an ati x1600 mobility card and is outputting via hdmi (mini dvi-actually) to an ASUS VH242H (full 1080p) monitor. When I had this connected running xp I had not problem with the screen resolution and size, but now that I'm running windows 7 the 1920x1080 resolution is available, but the picture doesn't fill the whole screen, there is like a 1" black box around the displayed screen.
I believe it has something to do with my display driver, I'm currently using the one provided by windows update.

I have recently bought a HDTV from Philips 32" and it is announced as 1080p.
Now, when i tried connecting it to my computer, it says that 1366x768 is the native resolution, and not 1920x1080. I have even tried creating a custom resolution as 1080p to see if it works , but no luck.
So, how do i get this TV to work on 1080p?
Or better, how do i check to see if it really is 1080p?

It's been some time that I've been experiencing micro-lags during the playback of 720/1080p mkv movies (not all of them). It can be best noticed in the parts of the movie when there's a lot of movement. If I stop the movie and play this part again, the lag is still there. It's not the file's fault because there are movies that I used to watch without any problems some time ago (the same file).

I run 7 Home Premium, 64bit on a Toshiba Satellite L505. My chipset is from the Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series family. When I try to play 1080p or even 720p videos (doesn't matter if it's VLC or MPC, or whatever) my screen blacks for a second and then comes back with the 'display driver stopped responding and has recovered' message. Then the VLC window is green, and I can't play the video.
I've uninstalled and re-installed the Intel drivers from the Toshiba website many, many times, and nothing has worked to solve this problem. I already clean boot, so there aren't any conflicting programs that cause this. HOWEVER, I have noticed that if I start up my computer, then restart from the start menu, I am able to play the videos without a hitch. Then, if I completely shut down and turn it on again, the issue re-surfaces.

So I was using my laptop over on a friends LG 47" TV and when I plugged it into my SVideo output on my Toshiba laptop with the Intel 965 Video card, the screen started to flash as it was trying to recognize the tv. I would get popups of the Video Driver was saved from a crash, but the screen would keep on flashing when it would go to a BSOD. I tried it twice and it ended the same way. I've used this before with my own normal tvs at home and it would work fine. Has anyone else run into a similar problem?

I'm looking to stream some of my Bluray rips from my Media Center server to my 360. I just recently got a 1080p TV (kinda late I know) and was just doing rips at 720p in .mkv and then converting them using mkv2vob to .m2ts using what I assume is an mpeg2 codec. I've noticed if I do the same with 1080p movies it stutters and the sound cuts out here and there. I havent tried yet, but I read that using x264 as the codec and .mp4 as the containter (please forgive me I'm using the wrong terminology, I really dont know a ton about this). Would that give me better performance? Or could someone suggest a way to make 1080p while still keeping good quality 5.1 audio stream perfectly?
Heres my "server's" specs and network if it helps:
AMD 9600 Quad Core
4gb RAM
10/100 LAN (no gigabit)
GeForce 8600GT graphics card
Netgear 16 port 10/100 switch, both the 360 and the server are on it. It might be important to note that the server could be recording one or two shows at once while I'm watching the movie.

i've twice installed latest drivers GeForce 285.62 Driver , i've been into nvidia control panel and then setup multiple monitors & it only detects my other vga monitor not the hdmi one, i'm using a brand new hdmi cable & can confirm i've connected it to the correct hdmi connector on my monitor, it has 2 hdmi ports and i've tried both, when i go into device manager & display adapters there is only 1 adapter that says nvidia geforce gt 545, should there be another 1 for the hdmi? i'm out of options, i even work in i.t as a breakfix engineer coming across similar issues like this but i cannot deal with this & really need some help so i'm really hoping someone will help me out here i'm wondering if its anything to do with my other hardware such as the xeon cpu? (a longshot but i've only just built this pc & never built a xeon system before & would normally go for core i5 or core i7)

i have a dell core 2 duo with 3gb of ram, and an ati hd4650, when i boot up, both outputs get the boot up screens, when it gets into windows, the hdmi output appears to be unplugged(not available for selection, just not there) it is worth noting that it worked fine under vista, anyways, when i switch the source on my receiver, or turn it off, as long as it is plugged in, it then gets detected, and i can modify resolution, and apparently it is outputting sound as well, i cannot verify this because the receiver is OFF, tried various versions of the catalyst drivers, and one of them worked, until i went into the catalyst center to change something and it went back to what it was doing i feel it is something wrong with the windows side or the driver, ive tried upgrading to the x64 version, ive tried different cables, different ports/plugs, it just wont work, i have no idea where to look in the registry to change when it is detected, but when i turn off the receiver or switch off of that source, the monitor flickers and the output is detected, this is frustrating because i wanted all of my home machines to be on 7, and i really dont want to go back to vista.

I had a grand vision of grandeur. I'm planning on buying a Nokia Lumia 900 running the Windows Phone 7 on it when the phone comes out soon. Being a designer, I had to design a dock to plug in the phone to charge and sync and the idea came: what if I could use my awesome stereo and my awesome Windows 7 to make the dock into an awesome home phone?
What it would be is a mic built into the dock that is connected to the phone so when someone calls me, I don't need to pick the phone up. And if I can with the Windows Phone, I can have the audio out from the call be recognized in Windows 7 as in audio input and I can have my puter's audio output to my awesome stereo to hear the call from my speakers.
The stickler is, as is with every grand vision of grandeur, can it happen? I don't know for sure what to do to get the audio out from the phone to connect with Windows 7.

I have an IR RC Helicopter that is controlled by IR transmitter that plugs into the audio out jack of my mobile phone (which runs an app that produces the audio signal, that the transmitter converts).
I've recorded the audio out of the app via the line-in on my computer. I get a nice signal that I can decode into the component information used to control the helicopter.
My problem is that when I playback the signal (via the transmitter, attached to my comps headphone jack) the helicopter won't respond.
I tried re-recording the audio of my computer by looping the headphone jack out back into the line-in (not sure if this is a good idea in terms of feedback). I can then record the signal output, which is similar to the source one but fairly distorted. Does windows 7 equalize sound output or something funny, and if so can I turn this off?

I have a minor issue with my laptop switching to the default speakers when it's put to sleep. It's only started doing this recently and I've made no configuration changes whatsoever. My laptop is connected to an audio receiver via HDMI which is never turned off. When I put my laptop to sleep (usually from within XBMC) the laptop no longer recognizes my receiver as an audio output and requires a log out/in to reconnect it. Like I said earlier, this has only started happening recently.

I was installing a long list of Win7 updates on my PC when the display abruptly shut off during installation. I know there was an update for the Intel integrated graphics chip somewhere in that mess of updates. The PC has that integrated GPU plus a GTX660 (with fully updated drivers). I didn't want to restart the PC, but I am unsure of what to do next.
