View 1 Replies View RelatedI have searched everywhere but can't find an answer I can understand in beginners (layman) terms. On my HP G62 355 DX laptop I used to be able to type a letter to a friend or business and then print it on my HP 1050 series deskjet printer. It would print as typed with paragraphs where I put them. NOW either the computer or printer picks the spot to begin a new paragraph, which is often in the middle of a sentence. The tool bar commands in Word seem to work except for the justify, paragraph selections. The only thing I have done differently is update the printer driver from HP. (not a place I like to go to, btw) But it started this before the update. Last night a post on a W7 forum made reference to Javascript being disabled (mine is) might relate to this problem

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new dell inspiron 580 with Win 7 Home. Everything was great until about a week ago. When playing games, all my keyboard inputs come out as numbers, and they are not the same numbers, they cycle 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,1... (I press 'a' and 1 comes up, press it again or any other key and 2 comes up, again, 3 and so on) This makes it impossible to do online crosswords or move in any game that uses the wasd keys. The keys all work fine in office, explorer, or any place that just wants text. This is a desktop not a laptop so the numlock isn't the problem. i have swapped keyboards, updated drivers, turned off accessibility features, checked keyboard language setting, and nothing.
The only thing that I changed on the computer around when this problem started was changing anti-virus software, the 30 day McAffe trial was over so I uninstalled it and installed Norton Security Suite, which may be the problem, but i can't go back now.Has anyone heard of a problem like this with Norton, Win 7, or anywhere?I suspect Nortons anti-key-logger is messing thing up, but i haven't found any to turn if off or settings to change.
when certain keys are pressed several keys are pressed at the same time. there are corresponding keys and the coupling is not random.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn XP (and Vista), you type alphebets to select a file or folder. For example, you are trying to access a file named "My file.txt", you type "m", "y" and it goes directly to folder or files start withm and y so it's close to My file.txt. This is convenient way to find a file you need. But, it's not the same in Windows 7 anymore. Typing anything will activate the search. It narrows down the files in folder window and it shows many unrelated documents and folders. Is there a way to disable that so I only search by keywords when I press Control-F while typing only takes me to the folder or file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I am typing at normal speed on the laptop keyboard, something really weird happens. In the middle of a word the next letter suddenly skips backwards and inserts itself randomly in the middle of a previous word breaking up the sentence until you try to correct it. Then it's back to typing as usual before it happens again! Laptop is under warranty but all they said they can do is replace mother board.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule. I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems. The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.
Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening. My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..
I am trying to get my wife's new computer up and running without any BSOD or program failures. Note that the system was not initially set up to capture the dmp files so all the earliest ones are missing. I presented the initial problems to the original seller who recommended sticking with MSE and uninstalling Norton 360 and I did that. Another forum suggested that Virtual Memory was the problem and I disabled and restored VM. Still having multiple crashes and I am hoping that I can get real help here. I do note that all the crashes have ntoskrnl.exe in the driver stack although sometimes alone and sometimes with other drivers.[CODE]
View 2 Replies View RelatedFrequently--and growing more frequent--I get a lag in typing in Windows 7 for any application involving typing (browsers, Office, email....anything). At first nothing happens, and then everything I tried to type shows up several seconds later, sometimes as long as 20 or 30 seconds later, though usually with the first few letters missing.

This happens every two minutes and me nor my friend have any idea how to fix this as we cant even describe it very well.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a general question about how windows assigns drive letters. My son has a Dell laptop with Windows 7. First of all, the card reader works fine. However, I thought the drive letter was always fixed for the sd card reader. When he inserts a micro sd card and adapter in the slot, it pops up the windows info box with the header stating Secure Digital Card F:/. All is well. When he inserts a different micro sd card and adapter in the same slot, it pops up the info box with the header Secure Digital Card G:/. I don't understand the different drive letters. These are identical 2gb micro sd cards. The reason I ask is we are writing an application that stores the sd card drive in a local sqlite database upon initialization of the application. If the drive is not consistent it basically messes up our application.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Win 7, clean install, on a second HD. On the original drive C:, I have Vista, on the new drive with Win 7, drive letter K:. This is all fine if I boot Vista but when I boot Win 7 (I use F12 with Dell) the drive letters are changed. K: becomes C: and C: becomes D:. When I tried to change the drive letters back so C: becomes K:, it will not let me. I spent most of the day setting up to install Win 7.
View 2 Replies View Relateduntil recently I had a ubuntu/Windows 7 dual boot. i got a laptop with ubuntu so i decided to remove it from my pc. after that i had tremendous problems as grub decided to delete my partition table. anyway i got that fixed.so i have 3 hdd's in my pc. 1x 500gb sata, 1x 500gb ide & 1x 1tb sata. i did a fresh install after my boot problem, everything was fine again until today. i installed windows on drive c: on my 500gb sata hdd. the 1tb sata is for data, the ide will be used as a network hdd.so as i turned on my pc today, it didnt boot and just showed a prompt. so i booted from another drive. to my surprise i got a grub command line despite me uninstalling it and doing a fresh install.anyway i booted into the recovery dvd, did startup repair without sucess. so i looked around cmd to find that now my windows partition got assigned the drive letter.i dont know if i recall correctly but i think my teacher said that Windows 7 can only boot from c:. so i think that this is basically my problem.how do i get drive d: to show up as c: again? please npte that i CANNOT boot into windows

In Windows 7 this is not the case. I can't see the drive letters in My Computer but if I go out to DOS and look using the net use command I can see the drive letters 100 % of the time.I can also see the drive letters within programs.I just can't see them within My Computer.I looked at the Reg setting for the following settings and they are not in play.

I have attached a second monitor to my laptop which runs Windows 7, however, I need to set different resolutions for different monitors, because the display does not fit to fill the screen on both monitors.
It is also noted that the display is replicated, and I would like to have the effect of having different desktops e.g. being able to use different applications such as debugging code on one monitor on an IDE such as Visual Studio, and, viewing the browser on the other monitor.
Currently it does not seem possible since the behavior seems to be that the same resolution is replicated on both monitors.
I have a 2 year old HP computer running windows 7. Never had any problems until last week. It just shut down while I was on it. I tried restarting, it would go to the log in page and shut down again (not shut off, but actually shut down). When I would try to put my password in, it kept typing letters until the box was full. I tried system restore and finally had to do system recovery. Upon finishing that when it restarted, it shut down again. I kept trying and it seemed to stay on longer each time til I finally got it to work. Was ok for about 5 days and started all over again. I wasn't able to open and reinstall my personal stuff.
I don't have a password on my restart now and it sometimes will load everything but mostly shuts down after it says welcome. Sometimes it will stay on an hour, sometimes won't stay on at all. Since I wiped it clean pretty much, surely if there was something file wise, I would have removed it? Is it the computer itself I have Norton Internet Security 2012. I cleaned my keyboard, thought maybe a key was stuck the way it would keep typing like I had a key pressed. I noticed it sometimes does that if I am typing, then shuts down.
I encountered a pretty bad error, but I feel like it's only because when transferring over my system image it did so by going from C --> to D. I've spent hours Google searching and burning bootable discs to no avail. What I've found out is that Partition Magic seems to be the only software in the universe that can change your drive letters around. I tried changing the drive letters through something in Windows DOS in Windows Recovery but that didn't work on the reboot. Supposedly, the Partition Magic CD itself is bootable, but to create a bootable CD from scratch it's a downright nightmare.
