I began having an issue with my laptops ATI Radeon graphics driver not working properly. It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware.

In XP (and Vista), you type alphebets to select a file or folder. For example, you are trying to access a file named "My file.txt", you type "m", "y" and it goes directly to folder or files start withm and y so it's close to My file.txt. This is convenient way to find a file you need. But, it's not the same in Windows 7 anymore. Typing anything will activate the search. It narrows down the files in folder window and it shows many unrelated documents and folders. Is there a way to disable that so I only search by keywords when I press Control-F while typing only takes me to the folder or file?

Been using Transferer to move photos from my cameras via USB to my computer (64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium SP1), but Transferer stopped working suddenly because it requires drive letters for the camera cards, which no longer appear in Windows Explorer, which does show the cameras listed as drives but without drive letters. I can transfer photos manually. My cameras don't seem to have a mass storage mode.

When I'm browsing local/network drives in Windows 7, the Search box (upper right in any Explorer window) only offers two filters "Date Modified" and "Size".
The "Add a Search Filter" is grayed out.
Here's some info on search filters that are available to be added-- but I haven''t figured out how to add them yet:
Date Created: Searches according to when the file was created. You can select the date (or a range of dates) from a mini-calendar that appears.
Kind: Search for files of a specific type as selected from the drop-down list that appears when you click the Kind option.
Type: Searches based on certain file types by extension, such as .pdf, .jpg, or .docx.
Name: Searches by filename. You can enter all or part of the filename in the search text box after the Name filter.
Tags: This filter lets you search for a file by the tags assigned to it. Enter one or more tags after the Tags filter in the Search text box.
Authors: Search for file by a particular author. Enter an author name after the Authors filter in the Search text box or select the name from the drop-down list that appears. (This filter is called Artists when searching audio files.)

I recently installed a program that was able to change folder backgrounds but uninstalled it, and I think this is what has caused this problem: Those same files show up no matter what I type in and they are all 0 bytes. If I right click one, Windows Explorer crashes.

I have downloaded and unzipped a set of C project files from a Google code repository into a folder on my PC so that I can study the code. I would like to use search so that I can find the files where particular variables are used.In windows explorer, I browse to the folder at the top of the tree, and then in the search box I type a variable name that I know exists in one of the files. Search always comes back with "No items match your search".

I have this absolute annoying issue with my Windows 7 Home Premium. If I leave my computer on for roughly an hour I will go and attempt to either rename a file or search a file in the normal os search menu. The second I type one letter the os locks up and I am forced to end the explorer.exe process. I have recently reformatted my computer no more than 4 months ago and prior to that I was given the same problem. I heard and read in select online searches this has to do with shell extensions of some sort

When I search using Windows Explorer, after approx. 30 seconds, I get the following error: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."Would anyone know why I am getting this error and where would be a good place to start to correct it?I did a clean boot even excluding windows programs and the problem was still there. I have installed all the latest Windows 7 updates. I also tried sfc /scannow and I turned off MS security software and firewall all to no avail. Is there anything else I can try? Would there be some type of log file somewhere that would tell me what is causing the problem?

Why are certain details, such as Frame Height, allowed in Windows Explorer when looking in a specific folder, but are missing when searching the contents of the same folder? For example, I'm inside a folder (in details view) of video files and ask Explorer to show details of Frame Height. It will show that for certain file types. But when I search for one of the files by name, the Frame Height will be blank for the same file it just showed me the info for.

I have problem with Internet Explorer 9 acclerator. After adding Google accelerator, I can't click on the blue button when you highlight on texts. Nothing pops up but when I remove the Google accelerator, it works again. It seems Microsoft doesn't like Google.
Another problem is I can't add Google search in the address bar. I tried two different methods but none works. Currently its set to Bing. One method is by click the Add button in the address bar when you type a phrase. When I click ADD, it takes me to this page but Google is not listed at all which again I think Microsoft doesn't like Google.
I click on Search link on the same page and I see Google listed but again its for accelerator not for address bar. That would stop my accelerator from working as I earlier mentioned. Another method for adding Google in address bar is by going from Tools > Manage add-ons which takes me to same page. Anyone know any other way to add Google as search provider for address bar?

I did a clean boot even excluding windows programs and the problem was still there. I have installed all the latest Windows 7 updates. the problem is if I create a new task for the task scheduler which is having multiple triggers, only the first entered trigger is recogized and used. E.g., I have two weekly triggers to execute a program. The first selects Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, and Fri to run the program. The second selects the weekend to run the program, i.e. Sat, Sun. --> Now, the program starts only on Mon to Fri. The Sat/Sun trigger is neglected and the program doesn't start on the weekend. If I delete the first Mon-Fri trigger, suddenly the weekend trigger is recognized. If I then add the Mon-Fri trigger again (now as second trigger), it remains unoticed, i.e., only the weekend trigger remains used.In all cases I made sure the triggers were set "active".

I've been wondering if Windows 7 has capabilities to trigger sound alarm when the network connection icon in the bottom right corner changes due to internet/network disconnection. I guess, in theory, Task Scheduler should come in handy, but first, the correct Event ID for the above-mentioned change needs to be determined. I couldn't find it yet. I found a standalone program NetSNSOR that can trigger alarm. However, a built-in process would be more useful.

Searched everywhere, and really striking out on how to do this (if it's even possible). I'd like to use Task Scheduler (or some other program) to automatically perform a task when my Android phone connects to my home wifi network (my PC is plugged into this router). Is there a way to use my Linksys router to trigger an event on my PC, that I can use to perform an action? Really just need it to do basic things, like start playing music on my computer by opening Spotify.

Can The Flash-Based ioDrive Redefine Storage Performance? : Can Fusion-io Trigger A Meltdown For Hard Drive Makers?
“Breaking all performance barriers” is what you read when you check out the Fusion-io Web site at www.fusionio.com. We’ve read such statements many times in the past, of course, and they turned out to be true in only a few cases. The device's spec sheet will give you even more enticement: 700 MB/s read throughput, more than 100,000 I/O operations per second—these are numbers that are actually getting close to DRAM performance. Can it be true? We looked at the ioDrive in great detail to find out.
