View 2 RepliesI just installed Windows 7 Ult 64b on a new PC and there is not a toolbar in Windows Explorer how to get a toolbar?
I have Windows 7 on another PC so I know that there is a toolbar for Windows Explorer.
I have upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, since then I have not had the CD drives showing in windows explorer in the drop down section on the left. If I put a disc in it then shows up. I am used to XP and all my drives showing.I looked at the properties for the drives and there is the message showing, Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) instead of "this device is working properly".

View 1 Replies View RelatedBeen using Transferer to move photos from my cameras via USB to my computer (64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium SP1), but Transferer stopped working suddenly because it requires drive letters for the camera cards, which no longer appear in Windows Explorer, which does show the cameras listed as drives but without drive letters. I can transfer photos manually. My cameras don't seem to have a mass storage mode.

The DWORD value you need to add, believe it or not, is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionApp ManagementAllYourProgramsAreBelongtoUs. Set this to 1 and next time you click All Programs in the Start Menu, youll be presented with new Programs Explorer.
I dont see anything similar in Windows 7 pre-beta/beta builds. Shoot me a note if you find it!"

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a good sony vaio from 2010 with a win7 home premium, 4 Gb Ram, 500Gb HDD, 50 Gb available currently. I know various System32 files are missing from information from a HijackThis Scan yesturday, eg lsass.exe. Explorer.exe does not handle folders well-double clicking should open any folder but instead it defaults to trying to open it with the first available software in the context menue, which happens to be VLC Media player. This is a known problem, to do with registry damage and/or windows explorer, not to do with VLC. I have been diligent with updating drivers, and am currently using Slimdrivers to identify further improvements to my driver lineup.
I will add a scan results from tweaking com windows repair after this post. Avast interenet security and Malwarebytes are up to date and scan have found nothing lately. MBAB had to be uninstalled and reinstalled today due to some sudden loss of the signatures update file(I think), but is running well again now. I wish to go through a range of tests and find out about some procedure to restore these corrupt system files. I am an advanced home user but have run out of idea with this problem.

View 12 Replies View RelatedLet's say I have a folder in my Documents somewhere called "thisisit".ithin "thisisit" folder, I have other folders, each named for a student in my class.hen I go to Start > Documents and navigate to "thisisit", I don't see any folders, but I do see all the files from all the folders. It's as if my computer took all the files from the folders, removed them from the folders and copied them into the parent folder "thisisit", and then deleted all the subfolders, named after the students. However, if I navigate to that same "thisisit" folder, through a software like Photoshop or 3ds Max, I DO see all of the subfolders, which are named after the students.
View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to make W7 explorer display the file tree the same way that XP did? The W7 way is a total mishmash, IMHO. I can't understand the directory structure. The indentation on the display is very slight and hard to see so that it is very hard to tell where a subdirectory starts and ends. It takes a long time to fill in the file structure so that after several seconds, even minutes, the display is still jumping around. There are a lot of things that I like about W7 but this is NOT one of them. I use windows explorer a lot.

I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk i have windows 7,Recently i have found out that i have a full list of errors that happened pretty much overnight:Here's the list1. I can't go onto Control Panel It say's " This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator" I AM THE ADMIN.. I am the only account too. 2. My Task bar is missing, When i go ctrl-alt-del i see no option to open up my task bar. [FIXED]3. I cant RIGHT click on anything on my desktop, as well as my folders and stuff. Although i can right click while playing games or browsing the internet, so my mouse is definitely not broken. So u must be thinking, this guy has a virus for sure... Well if i do have a virus it must be made by ******* Bill Gates. Because i can't find it.I have the FULL version of Trend Micro Cillin as well as Norton 360, I've just recently downloaded Malvare Bytes, and that couldn't find anything as well. I've done a full system scam on both anti-virus programs, i see no viruses.I did get a virus a week ago, but Norton quickly picked it up, I'm thinking it may have changed a few settings in my computer before i managed to delete it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy setup had an MBR issue a few days ago after installing Skyrim. I was unable to repair it using the windows 7 instal disc. I tried the automatic fix as well as bootrec.exe. After giving up and reinstalling a fresh windows 7, my rig has not been starting up properly. It insists on waking up from sleepwhen it was shutdown, i.e. Not sleeping. Well after a few days of this with no other problems, bootmgr can't be found again. Now, when I load the repair disc, it can't find my OS to even try a bootrec.exe on. But, when i go to load drivers the explorer window allows me to browse my c:/ drive and the installation is there. I would prefer to fix rather than reinstall due to a symantec DRM issue.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt is seen in Device Manager with no issues, it is seen in Disk Management and at one point, I was able to assign a letter to it under another profile, leading me to believe it might be a profile issue, but when I went to recreate the profile under the second one in which I was able to assign a letter to the DVD drive/CD drive, this no longer works. I can't tell you for sure when this started as I went to reinstall a program, after a crash yesterday and that is when I noted no CD in My Computer. IT is also seen in BIOS. Virus scan shows nothing and temp files have been cleaned. I can't find any information in the event log which has been of any use. I think I might try to recreate the profile as mine did seem rather big as I have only had the laptop for about a couple of months now. I hope some one has some additional ideas cuz I am about to restore the entire PC but sure would like to find out what caused this....Oh and I did try System Restore but I'm not sure how far to go back since I am not sure when this all started. Disk Management acts like it wants to let me assign a drive but it doesn't.
