It is seen in Device Manager with no issues, it is seen in Disk Management and at one point, I was able to assign a letter to it under another profile, leading me to believe it might be a profile issue, but when I went to recreate the profile under the second one in which I was able to assign a letter to the DVD drive/CD drive, this no longer works. I can't tell you for sure when this started as I went to reinstall a program, after a crash yesterday and that is when I noted no CD in My Computer. IT is also seen in BIOS. Virus scan shows nothing and temp files have been cleaned. I can't find any information in the event log which has been of any use. I think I might try to recreate the profile as mine did seem rather big as I have only had the laptop for about a couple of months now. I hope some one has some additional ideas cuz I am about to restore the entire PC but sure would like to find out what caused this....Oh and I did try System Restore but I'm not sure how far to go back since I am not sure when this all started. Disk Management acts like it wants to let me assign a drive but it doesn't.
Windows Explorer ( not internet Explorer) starts up when I turn on my computer ( without my request). This just started to occur yesterday. It must be in some startup menu . Where do I look for this to remove it ?
how to make W7 explorer display the file tree the same way that XP did? The W7 way is a total mishmash, IMHO. I can't understand the directory structure. The indentation on the display is very slight and hard to see so that it is very hard to tell where a subdirectory starts and ends. It takes a long time to fill in the file structure so that after several seconds, even minutes, the display is still jumping around. There are a lot of things that I like about W7 but this is NOT one of them. I use windows explorer a lot.
This was working just fine, I could see and access NAS via WE on all computers.Something changedNow............in WEon desktop - open NETWORK - can see laptop & desktop computers on network it also shows DT & NAS Media Devices BUT not NAS as computer (storage drive). no doubt someone will say 'here it is stupid' and I'll learn to search properly...but anyway. does any know how to run a 32 bit explorer.exe (e.g. syswow64explorer.exe) on 64 bit Windows 7? Do you really know that whatever solution you post works? do you have "explorer.exe *32" in your task manager?
As described here: 'Microsoft is offering users running Windows 7 a fix designed to resolve issues related to Windows Explorer. According to the software giant, Windows Explorer can crash in certain scenarios, a glitch which also seems to be impacting Windows Server 2008 R2, not just Windows 7. It appears that the issue is not exactly new, since it affects the RTM versions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, as well as the two operating systems after their first upgrade was released. Essentially, the release of Service Pack 1 doesn't seem to have resolved Windows Explorer crashes. "This issue usually occurs when you perform some operations that are related to the taskbar or to the Address bar," the Redmond company revealed.
I use Windows Ultimate 7th I have a problem because it started to appear on the desk as a message content: "Windows Explorer is not responding". "Windows can try to restart the Program" And then:
1. Close the program. 2. Wait for the Program to respond.
Since a Windows update at 3 AM this morning Windows Explorer keeps freezing and i can't do anything beside a reboot using the power button of my computer. It seems to be random. It mostly happens when i open a file or a folder, right click on something or do anything involving explorer.I tried to do a system restore but didn't fix it. I'm wrting this in safe mode and so far i have no problem.
Every time I try to get into Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), it shuts down. Every time I try to attach a file in my e-mail (yahoo mail) whatever browser I am using shuts down. I have run numerous scans and no problem shows up.
New desktop running Windows 7. I untagged Windows Explorer from the Windows Task BarNot only did Windows Explorer disappear from from Task Bar but apparently from the rest of my computer. It is no longer listed as one of the Programs on my Start MenuHow do I get Windows Explorer back?
Got a problem with IE. I get a window saying that IE has a problem and gives an option to let the internet find a solution. This does not seem to help any. I can get out of it and keep going , but the same window will keep reappearing.
Intermittenly I get the "windows explorer not responding" this will happen about every 5 minutes for weeks then all of a sudden stop for several weeks. One weird side issue is I have two accounts on my computer, my wifes and mine.At times it will only be occurring on one account or the other. I am back into the phase of it occuring.I checked the "record problem steps" with windows and find this common error each time it occurs.
Everytime I attempt to click on something on my desktop or taskbar, etc it says "Windows Explorer has stopped working" but luckily I can double click and open firefox.Whenever I try to right click something or open an explorer window it says this and gives me this:
i have a dell inspiron and it runs windows 7. i have been happy with the computer, but something serious and strange has happened. I open my files in windows Explorer, so for example I have a folder with excel files. so, anyway, i have attached a pic of Explorer and you can see that the 52 files are still there, but i can only see 2 in Explorer. This has happened to all excel, word and pictures. I am a scrapbook maker so i have lots of files (and all diligently backed up on 2 back-up drives), but i cannot see those files either, although the size indicates that they are all there, just now not visible to me.

I keep getting the error message that Windows Explorer has stopped working (I'm using x64 7 Pro) and then restarting. I have tried the following but, to no avail:Updating all drivers.Running Scannow under admin which could find no unerabilities.Running a virus check (Kasperky) which found nothing.Ran Malware Bytes which found nothing.I booted-up in Safe Mode which didn't bring-up the message.Ran System Restore which didn't fix the issue.
Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit. Windows Explorer issue, not Internet Explorer. In my folder tree, there was a folder named "Documents" which contained no information at all. Note: I am not referring to the Libraries folder named "Documents!"All of my files are in custom-named folders, each of which is preceded by my 3-letter, initials caps. But, after deleting that redundant, empty folder named "Documents," Windows added a new bizzarre folder which I cannot get rid of. It has no information in it; it has no other right-click options except "Expand," and clicking that option doesn't do anything at all. There is no information in that folder.
I have been getting a lot of windows explorer crashes lately. I use C cleaner and malware bytes to keep clean. I also uses Avast for Virus scanner. I installed Hijack this but can't seem to get a log file out of it. There is a message that alerts me to change something in hosts. I can't find a a way to run a command line like previous windows versions.
It seems I can't pin folders to Windows explorer in my taskbar any more. A few weeks ago all the folders that where pinned there disappeared (even the ones that where added automatically) and if I try to add new ones nothing happens. Programs can still be pinned to the taskbar as before. What could be causing this?
KB2586448 will not upload onto my system. It is an Explorer 9 update. The error code I get is 80073712. I have checked the Microsoft website and followed their instructions but to no avail.
I like to save hperlinks of web sites by click-dragging the site's address from the address bar in my browser and dragging the address into a subdirectory in Windows Explorer so that I can open it from that location in the future. With IE8 I was able to grab the icon at the front of the address bar and drag it into the subdirectory, creating a hyperlink to that web site. That same method works with Google Chrome. When I do that with IE9 the hyperlink is created but the tab separates from the browser window and opens in a new window. I'd rather the tab stay in the same window.how I can turn this off (the separating tab)?
I have an issue I've never been faced with. Have a coumputer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. There is no internet explorer icon in the start menu or anywhere else. I installed IE9 and rebooted the machine, still no icons. I looked in prorgram files and program files (x86) and each have a folder for internet explorer.....but neither have a exe file. I went into control panel and clicked on programs and features and then turn windows features on and off. IE9 is listed there. I removed the check and applied. It goes through the motions of uninstalling but when it's done it says it could not remove it all. I rebooted but when I went back in IE9 was still listed and checked. I tried to uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller Pro.......but it does not show IE9 as being installed
I am using Windows 7 Home Edition (SP1), 64-bit, on an ASUS G75V laptop. Frequently, when clicking on a file, Windows Explorer crashes. These are the details of the problem as shown by the window that opens up when Explorer crashes:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: explorer.exe
After updating my lap top which has Windows 7, it installed Explorer 9 plus other updates, I now find I have no explorer at all infact it wont even load home page being BBC, and have tried restore to earlier date but it will not load explorer has anyone experienced this and how does one correct the problem.
I need to get Internet Explorer 8 on my NEW windows 7 computer. I goto the microsoft download page, yet it only has a download for Vista, XP, and server.
SO explorer keeps killing its self. every time i close the "windows has stopped working" window, 3 seconds later it decides to die again. It indicates ntdll.dll is the problem.. so i google it and it comes back as a system file and decide to "sfc /scannow" but it comes up with, Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
