View 0 Replies View RelatedSetting up a new Windows 7 install and goofed up the computer name and didnt immediately notice. I had already setup a task to run upon logon when I noticed that the PC's name was all jacked. So I changed the pc's name and rebooted. After reboot the task disappeared from the task scheduler list but still runs. Is there anyway to remove this ghost task when it is no longer visible in the task scheduler?I thought about changing the name back temporarily to see if the task would show up but I have no idea what that name was, so that is not an option.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 Professional 32-Bit Edition with SP1. Somehow I have lost the "Pin to Start Menu" and "Pin to Task Bar" options when I right click on a program's icon whether it is running or not. Another strange thing is that when I right click on My Computer and select "Manage Computer", I get an error message that there is no program associated with that command. I ran "sfc /scannow" and it returned "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." So I am at a loss. I do recall seeing an option to remove those privileges somewhere, but I cannot for the life of me remember which program I saw it in.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with my computer. I had all of my icons and task bar on my computer, but now they are not there. The only thing I am able to do is pull up the task manager and nothing else. I do not want to shut the PC down illeagally as there is a new hard drive on the system.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm new to this forum. My task manager is missing. If i press ctrl-alt-del, usually there is a menu that contain:
-Lock this computer
-switch user
-log off
-change a password...
-task manager
But now the Task Manager is missing! I don't know why! My computer is not just used by me, my brother and mother usually used it. I ask them but they said they don't know. Then is tried to search the task manager from 'start'. There is "View running process with Task Manager". I click it, but then show up a letter "Task manager has been disabled by your administrator."
When I access Task Manager the window opens and Task Manager operates fine;howeverthere is no way to exit. There is no minimize maximize close in the top right corner. The only way I can exit the program is to manually shut down the computer and re-boot.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy PC is windows 7 ultimate 32bit OS! Few days ago I connected my pc with few friends pc to play a game via lan! After that day whenever I start my pc the start screen (desktop) does not show and directly my documents folder opens. When I close the folder a blank screen appears. Then I go to task manager n new task n then type explorer.exe, then it works normally !!!
This has happened every time I restart the pc. I downloaded MSE and removed the viruses that had corrupted the explorer file. Then I went to run n used the sfc / scannow command.... but nothing works and same old error i.e., no startup screen! How do I get the explorer.exe to execute on its own without always going to task manager! There is no other error in the pc other than that!
Looked in the task manager today and noticed 4 separate entries for explorer.exe / windows explorer. Is this normal? Or does it indicate a problem? Windows 7 32 bit system.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to right-click buttons in the Task Bar and get a popup that listed the last documents/links/etc. that I had opened with that app along with other shortcuts for the app. A while back (beyond my earliest restore point), that changed.I still get the popups but no more listings of the last resources used and other things that are missing in those popups. Has anyone experienced this bizarre behavior? I have no clue what caused it or, more importantl
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently experiencing consistent restarting (every few seconds) of Windows Explorer on my PC. And this has caused the desktop to be unavailable/inaccessible. I'm desperate . To find out the error which is causing this, I need to access task manager (event viewer), which is also unavailable (greyed out when I right click on the task bar). By accessing the task manager, I hoped to stop the windows explorer process so that I can at least access to my school project. I cannot afford to reload the OS (Windows 7 Pro) as this will affect my school project.

Now to the actual problem. The reason I bought all this RAM was so that the computer would run faster and more smoothly. Despite the large amount of memory, however, I still experience frequent spikes in CPU Usage, which I have learned is not related to RAM very much if at all. Regardless, I would still assume that my system wouldn't have to overexert itself to run simple tasks like Windows Explorer (i.e., folders, desktop and taskbar) or the Task Manager itself.
Either of these tasks, as well as others such as "System," "svchost," or "File I/O Surrogate" (none of which I know much about) can spike to anywhere from 30-70% of the CPU without warning, and when it does, the total CPU Usage ends up being 100, which REALLY makes my laptop sluggish and unresponsive.
I understand that RAM does not directly impact CPU Usage, but I would also assume that, since my laptop isn't ancient, that its CPU shouldn't struggle to display my folders/desktop/taskbar, or to run the Task Manager itself. I also run a daily virus check with Symantec Anti-Virus, so I don't think infection is the issue. In addition to that, I monitor memory usage alongside CPU usage, and the memory usage never goes higher than 10.5 (it usually hovers around 6-8) or so GB of my available 16-- insufficient RAM is also probably not the problem.
I think it all started when I tried in install Windows Live Essentials. Now I barely have an internet connection (can't see network drives) browser and email work., Icon on taskbar says "no internet connection" I've tried to go back to a restore point and that doesn't work as it says something is blocking like an antivirus program and I get the error 0x80070005 I uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2012 and tried to install Microsoft Security Essentials. Couldn't update virus definitions. I tried setting up and new user account.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).
Therefore, I can't use or edit the program. Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.
Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.
Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine? I am a novice user but I can follow instructions. However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.
I've been using computers for 18 years and I've never had this problem until I bought this software and used it for about a month.
I just wanted a conclusive way of putting the ball back in the manufacturer's court.
I was on my notebook today, when it suddenly shutdown. When I started it back up and logged it the task bar was grey and reminded me of how older windows used to look (98 for example). I also am unable to hear sound or connect to internet. I have googled the problem and read over many different solutions from people with the same or simular problem. The only thing I find that differs is with all the forums I have looked over, is when most of the people have done scans using Malware Bytes they have found multiple infected files etc. When I did a scan with Malware bytes, it found no infected files or malicious objects. I have attempted to do a system restore, but when I try I get a message saying that "system restore is not functional"
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a Windows 2003 Domain and just got some new Windows 7 professional machines.. The problem I am having is that the Accessories, Startup, and maybe other folders are missing from the start menu..
If I login as the Domain admin I get them.. The user is setup as a local machine admin, but they are missing.. We are not blocking anything in Group policy on the domain that I can see.. I have looked numerous times. everyone keeps pointing to the folder being hidden..
This is not the case.. Is there a domain level policy that controls this??
So I made the mistake of downloading the Codec C Malware. I got it deleted but now my programs are missing.
