Windows 7 64bit Update Stalling And Now Loops And Loops
Jun 8, 2011
So, I shutdown my computer this morning and it was installing 96 updates, so I left it and went to school. I came back after 6-7 hours and it was stuck on 68/96 updates installing, I left it for another 30 min and it was still on 68/96. I decided to press the reset button, even though it said please don't unplug or turn off comp while updating. Now whenever I boot up, it says configuring updates 0%, after about 5-10 min it'll just boot to desktop. And whenever I shutdown, it'll do the same process again, installing updates 1/80, I'm not sure if it ever reaches 80/80 but it shuts down. And when I boot up again same deal... I'll actually have not sat infront of it and monitor the numbers, but in the meantime, is there a fix for this? This is shittttty, cuz I just reformatted comp.

When I try to wake my machine from S3 sleep mode I see the hard drive lights power up but nothing happens, I get a black screen for about 5-6 seconds then my machine proceeds to boot loop itself until i manual shut it down with the power button. Sometimes it will start up regularly with no problems, and about 60-70% of the other times it will do the problem i have explained above.

I just bought the new components for my PC. They are;
- Asrock H61M-VS mainboard
- Intel i5 2500 CPU
- 2x4GB Transcend 1333
- WD Blue 750 GB HDD
- WD Green 1TB HDD
- Thermaltake TR2 RX 450W PSU
- Palit GT440 1GB
- LG IPS235V monitor
So, this is how it went.
1) I carefully installed all the components, made sure everything is in order, cables, fans, slots...connected the graphics card to monitor via DVI. Turned on the PC just to see if it all works - no signal. Bad start. Plugged out the DVI cable, took the D-Sub cable from the graphics card to monitor. Turned the PC on again - no signal. Then I've plugged the onboard D-Sub to my monitor and - finally some pictures. BIOS (UEFI) utility showed up, I checked the temperatures, saw everything was in order.
2) Then I've set the disk modes to AHCI, corrected the boot order (HDD #1 first, USB DVD second, HDD #2 off), plugged in the USB DVD drive, put the Windows 7 Ultimate disk, and started the installation procedure. Opted for the x64 version, made a 50GB partition just for the Windows, chose all the settings, typed the computer name and adjusted the date & time...then the installation showed "Preparing Your Desktop"...so I kept watching the nice blue background and waited...after 15 seconds, it flashed the desktop with all the icons and then - automatically showed "Logging Off" and "Shutting Down". After few seconds, the PC kept showing POST screen for a second, then nothing...and it looped. It went into some weird restart loop.
3) I repeated the process again, making sure I didn't make any mistakes. Installation got thru, "Preparing Your Desktop"....10 seconds after the glimpse of Windows desktop and the sudden "Logging Off" and "Shutting Down" screens. And the reboot loop again.
Tried to shut off the PC and turn it back on - it just kept rebooting around the POST screen.
4) Unplugged the second memory module and disconnected the backup HDD, leaving the PC with just one 4fGB module and one HDD. Tried the installation again. Same results.
5) Took the old XP SP2 disk, changed the disk modes to IDE, installed the XP SP2. Everything seemed to work normal.
6) Put the graphics card CD and tried to install the drivers, because I didnt want to work with the integrated graphics. NVidia installer alerted me that "there is no such hardware in your configuration". Checked the HW Monitor program, it displayed CPU, HDD and Mobo temps, but not the GPU temps. Checked the Device Manager under Display Adapter - only Intel graphics shown.
7) Took out the graphics card from the PC and tried to install Windows 7 again. Installation went thru and then the regular Preparing Your Desktop / Logging Off / POST screen reset loop.

She asked me to restore her computer to factory settings. She is not at all tech savvy, so I know for a fact she did not do anything to mess it up. It was running fine, but she just wanted to clean it out and bring it back to like new. She pretty much only uses her computer for school papers and email. I have done factory recovery on many computers at this point and I have never had any problems at all until now.
First thing I did was hook up my external hard drive and saved all of her documents and pictures. I then restarted the computer and pressed F8 and then clicked on repair my computer. It took me to datasafe backup and restore. I went as far as to restore the factory image. I chose not to save any files and to restore it to new again. It completed as normal and I clicked restart. When it restarts, a list of files pops up and then it says "Setup is preparing your computer for first use." It also shows another list of files that seem to be loading as well as it tells me that it is booting in safemode. Next thing it says is that "Setup will continue after restarting your computer". It then continues to restart and perform this boot loop until I turn it off.
I tried to repair the computer and it would fail saying it was offline. So, I plugged the hard drive into an adapter to hook it to my other computer. I opened the disk manager. I saw that the recovery partition was not active like it is on my other hard drives. I also see that for some reason it has a tiny partition that is labeled fat. On my other hard drives it is labeled oem partition. Not sure if this makes a difference or not, but thought it was worth mentioning. Also, when I choose to explore the recovery partition, it says the recovery folder is empty, however the properties say it is nearly full with many files. On my other hard drives I can not access that folder at all. I also am not sure if this matters or not, but didn't want to let anything I am doing go unnoticed.

The pc specs I have are: Amibios, Pentium dual-core,cpu E6600@3.06 GHz,CPU mem 2048mb (dual) speed 3.31GHz. I have no idea how to fix this. The pc crashed in WIN 7 after accepting updates and WIN XP crashed after upgrading to IE 9.This pc is set up to dual boot. However, when the pc tries to boot the screen is black with white text and it has these options: WIN 7/64 bit, WIN 7/32 bit and WIN XP earlier version. No matter which OS I choose, it just loops to windows start-up repair and the results are always windows cannot automatically repair this computer.Safe mode is not accessible and if it starts to load at all, these errors show-KDCOM.DLL corrupt and SPTD.SYS hit enter shows. I thought I had a bootable WIN XP disk, but it is not. Therefore,I cannot try to do repairs that a way.I never got the WIN 7/ 64 bit cd, yet it shows as drive "e". Weekly I check for updates on these utilities and then I run CCleaner, Winclean for the registry part and if necessary Road kill then Malwarebytes all in safe mode when it worked.
Here are a few other things I tried and got results from:
*Memory test= passed
*Safe Mode= never happens no matter what OS I choose
*Last known good config= never works
*loops in start-up repair cannot fix issues-no matter what OS choice is made from the black screen
*never tried to disable auto start-up from black screen because I did not understand this option well or even thought it would be a benefit. Any tips would be appreciated.

I've checked the temperature, the processor usage, no dust, nothing. But every few seconds to a minute my computer just stalls. The processor usage stays very low, but the computer just locks up for a moment or two.No viruses, or anything. This happened right after I changed wireless cards.

No outgoing e-mail after Windows 7 64bit update? Yesterday after much hesitation I decided to apply the windows 7 service pack 1 for 64bit. I had hesitated in applying this update after hearing rumours that it may cause internet connectivity problems. After completing the update I indeed discovered to my horror that in fact my internet (Orange.fr ISP) had indeed ceased to function along with my e-mail, nothing at all was working. In view of the fact that my machine previously had been working very well Without SP1 .I did a System Restore to before the offending Service Pack was installed. After this my internet came back and my incoming mail was restored using Windows Live Mail, But I now cannot send, reply to or forward any e-mail at all.On further checking,I find that I can send e-mails if I go to my ISP website's(Orange.fr as I live in France)messaging page, This suggests to me that a corruption of my Windows Live mails has taken place, but of course I could be on the wrong track.

I came across a term, BIOS, and was wondering what it was. After doing some research, I found out that I have a very old BIOS,American Megatrends Inc. 6.02 7/21/2010. I am intereted in playing video games after I updated my Power Supply and Graphics Card. The games I play are becoming slower than a few weeks ago. I was wondering if I should update my BIOS. I followed the guide from: Updating the BIOS When I tried searching for an update, I could not find a BIOS tab. I read somewhere that I should not attempt to update my BIOS if there is no such tab. I would really like to improve my computer, but I do not know how. I have also read that I should not find updates from the "motherboard manufacturer's Web site," incase something goes wrong. What should I do?

When I press delete and go to my bios it just freezes all I can see is the Gigabyte Dual Bios title at the top and nothing else. Every feature of the bios freezes keyboard and mouse will not work on q-flash for example. I want to update my bios however when I run the exe file for the update it tells me I need 64 bit file. I cannot find the 64 bit file for the F19g or F18 bios update for Gigabyte Z77 D3h on windows 7 professional 64 bit.

I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

The update is called:
nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.
After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Windows Mobile Device Center doesn't work with Outlook 2010 if installed as 64 bit. Microsoft says to "fix" this by uninstalling Office 2010 and installing the 32 bit version! My question is are there any 3rd-party sync programs that will work with Windows 7 64 bit and Microsoft Office Outlook 64 bit and Windows Mobile 6.5 devices? I don't need to sync email but I do need to sync calendar, contacts, and tasks. And yes, I am aware that the iphone will sync with it! Silly Microsoft. I have 1.5 years left on my mobile contract with my Windows Mobile 6.5 phone?

My computer got the BootMGR is missing problem, which I have had in the past which is not that big. I insert the Windows 7 64 Ultimate disk it starts up everything fine, press repair my computer and it finds the installation. But when I press on it and next it has an error pop up saying "This version of system recovery options is not conpattble with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that i compatible with this version of Windows." If I dont select anything but press next it allows me to look at the screen Im supposed to, but if I go to command prompt or click autmatically repair nothing will be saved or changed. This is the same disc I installed Windows with and repaired it several times. But I did have to reset BIOS earlier so this may have affected something.

My windows update does not like to load! It takes a very long time and sometimes causes explorer to crash! When I checked, I had 92 updates to install. When I click download and install, it would freeze and stay there for a long time. I tried to use the Fix it application, however that gets stuck on "Checking Online for Updates" as well! What should I do? I also tried to update in safe mode, but it wouldn't let me.

OK, first I have to say I am a complete piker with this stuff. If I have to do anything that requires changing the BIOS or registry or anything like that, I am gonna have to pay someone to fix this.OK, here is my problem. Windows update fails with a code 8007370B. I have Windows 7 Pro, a Dell XPS 9100 with 16GB RAM, which I added, as well as a Asus ENGTX460 Top video card. The system has worked great with this configuration for well over a year. I use MSE as security, and Zone Alarm for the firewall.I have been getting this code since October. I tried doing the windows troubleshoot and fix links, I tried Fixit, I tried System Restore, nothing worksThe system also says under last time updated "Never" and it displays no record

I did an update of Windows last week, which included two critical fixes (I think both were related to .NET) and two "optional" security updates. I updated, rebooted, and now Windows Update no longer works: the icon is missing from the menu item, and when I click it nothing happens. The Windows Update service is running; tried restarting that as well. Tried a .NET cleanup utility, but all that seemed to do was remove or break one of the .NET version installations (a game that uses .NET complained after running the utility, and stopped complaining after I manually re-installed .NET 3.5 and updates).

Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers,
