My new computer arrived today with Windows7 64 installed. (happydance)My old computer has Windows7 32 installed. Before I start attacking both computers, thought I better ask beforehand or the b/f will 'kill' me..Can I remove the hard drive from the old computer, install it as a 2nd drive in the new computer and be able to access all the data (documents, photos, messages saved in outlook and my favourites etc) on it from the new Windows7 64bit primary drive?
My drive was running perfectly until i tried to burn a data-dvd disc the other day. It has done it before just fine and on the same day, i burned a music cd. The drive is: PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16A6S ATA DEVICE.It all started when i tried to backup one of my .iso files by copying it to a memorex 8x 8.5GB DVD+R with Nero 10. It stopped halfway with some generic error(that I'm sorry that i cannot remember). Being a complete novice, i uninstalled Nero and blamed the program for wasting 8 of my discs .I tried roxio 2012 next-Once again, it froze halfway through the copy and gave me some error. I tried ImgBurn-Halfway samething MagicISOMaker-Made it 100% Burning a disk that doesn't work. (tested in another PC)After going through roughly 15 discs, i decided to visit the dell support page to see if they had any firmware updates. They did: Windows/DOS based firmware flash update for PLDS DH-16AAS DVDRW.
Release Date: 8/17/2009 Version: A01JD12
So, now my drive has the latest firmware update for it i should be in good hands....(or not)After that, i tried maybe 2 more failed burns and then my drive just refused to read anything at all. Blank dvds, CDs with data on them (it would show up as a blank Cd...)I tried the Microsoft Fix it tool about a thousand times hoping that it would work one day...(i'm actually running it right now...how sad. When it gets to this part, whatever DVD or CD in the drive at the moment is read and autorun pops up(i once tried to burn it that way, failed) The MR Fix it will exit and say no problem was found.
Tried CDgone also.I deleted the uppers filters/lowers filters...i even got angry and deleted them ALL and had to do a system restore to get my PC back to working again...I am sorry if a solution for this is somewhere on the forums but i just could not find it...

I have a WD5000D032-000 pocket 500 Gig. It worked on my vista 32 bit home. I updated to windows 7 home premium 64 bit edition and now my computer can't read it. It is displayed under Device manager just not My Computer
I bough a new laptop 2 weeks ago (Asus with windows 7) and decide it was the time to install Microsoft office today, what a surprise the CD drive can't read anything...I've tried CD, DVD and Blue ray nothing work!Basically, when I click on the DVD RW drive it open the DVD reader and said <please insert disc into drive>. Then, it start reading for 2 seconds, stop before opening anything and bring me back the same error <please insert disc into drive> like if there was nothing in the drive. I think the drive itself is functional it is only a reading issue. I found some tips but nothing work for me
The problem is I have two DVD Combo drives. Both of them are not working unfortunately. The drives will take the CD/DVD in but doesn't read anything. When I called a professional he informed me the computer is outdated and I need to update . So I took his advice and updated the MOBO and processor. I kept the other components as it is. After upgrading the drives were working fine. Then all of a sudden I have the same issues again. This time atleast I want to check with the great minds here to see if I can get a help. Lemme tell you I am no noob when it comes to computers but not an geek too. I know how to execute the solution you guys are gonna give me. Here is my config.
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5700 @ 3.00GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10 Processor Count: 2 RAM: 2047 Mb Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1), 512 Mb Hard Drives: 1x500GB SATA @7200rpm , 1x250GB SATA @7200rpm Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC., P5G41T-M LX Antivirus: Norton Internet Security, Updated and Enabled Optical Drives: 1 x HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS70 ATA Device - SATA 1 x HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N ATA Device - IDE
To give you heads up I have Googled the issue and found some so called solutions but nothing worked for me.
1. Changing the Link State Power Management settings.
2. There are no upper and lower filters so I couldn't do anything more.
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with windows 7 and the DVD drive is not working at all. I have tried with brand new DVDs, music CDs and video games and none of them work. When I put in a disc there are a few wurring noises but nothing loads up. When I click on the drive in Computer the drive opens and tells me to insert a disc.In properties and Device Manager it says the device is working properly.I have tried reinstalling the drive, deleting upper and lower filters, and I have run the Windows Fixit program and nothing has worked so far. My drive is: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C ATA Device. My computer is about a year old and is completely standard. I have hardly used the DVD driver at all since I purchased the computer so I have no idea how it could have broke.
I noticed this a few minutes ago, I just got finished watching a movie, and was putting music on when I was about to load World of Warcraft, I brought up winamp with the tracks from the CD that I had saved to my playlist, and it'd skip right over them to the next track I'd saved on my hard drive, I'd tried deleting the filters as I'd seen in other threads, and even shutting down, unplugging it, and re-plugging it back into my power supply, but still to no avail.
about my a4tech pocket usb when i plugged it to my toshiba satellite e1802 it read as generic usb but when i plugged my usb flash drive it doesnt read by my a4tech pocket usb hub.

What would cause a CD drive to be unable to read a CD it used be able to. Its DVD. Its driver working but may not be newest and the CD won't read shows it being half full but can't get to files how ever it reads other CDs fine. For sure it read just fine before dunno went Web site no new CD drivers. Is there difference between windows versions?
I have a custom built PC with a Pioneer bd rom drive. None of my dvd's can be read, I can view some of them IF I use Total Media Player, but, the dvd drive doesn't give me any information about the inserted dvd. I've removed the upper and lower filters, no help. I've removed the drive totally and let Windows detect it upon restart.....still doesn't work. I've tried other external drives, and I have the same problem with them detecting and reading the dvd's/ I'm lost as to what to try next.. I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64 and I'm about ready to smash it....I've also tried Virtual Clone Drive and that doesn't work now either....
my DVD writer suddenly stopped reading and writing DVDs and CDs, however there is power to the dvd drive, all the connections are working and i can eject the drive using windows explorer. Any advice an what to do.I all ready used Microsofts Fixit application but it said that the problem could not be fixed.
For some reason my dvd drive is not reading discs. It has been working before, and now it doesnt seem to read any discs i put in the drive. It also doesnt make any noise or any sign that it is in. My problem is is that the dvd drive isnt recognizing the dvd's i put. Even if if put a disc in the drive the D drive says that there is no discs inserted when there is. I am not sure if this is a hardware or software malfunction. I have tried:
1. deleting MousePoint2 in the registry and restarting.
2. uninstalling my cd/dvd drives then rebooting
3. deleting the upper and lower files in the registry or whatever that was
when the drive was working i remember leaving a disc in the drive then shutting down the computer.
My specs are
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit service pack 1 Dell inspiron 620 intel core i3 3.3 ghz intel hd graphics family 6 gb ram
I had my computer for 3 months and the dvd drive isnt working is this normal that i have to replace the dvd drive?
I am having problems with my DVD Reader and Writer drive on my Win 7 laptop. It works mostly when it wants to not when i tell it to. But it rarely wants to start working again.I have tried a few methods trying to get the DVD driver working again by:
- Using Microsoft Fix it (No problems found) - Deleting the Upper and Lower filters (Still wont show the DVD icon - Unread disc) - Troubleshooting (No help at all)
I'm not a newbie when it comes to PCs either, I build my own and repair/troubleshoot others.
For some reason, my computer stopped reading DVDs in the drive. CDs load fine and I can burn to them. I checked the hardware properties and somehow Windows has decided to install a CDROM driver to the device, which is why I believe DVDs are no longer being read. I've tried going through and uninstalling the driver and getting rid of the registry keys assosicated in order for the correct driver to be installed, but Windows keeps installing incorrect ones. This just happened a few days ago, tried restoring Windows to a week ago and same problem exists. Less than a month ago I used it to install Diablo 3 so I know it works fine.
There is no upper and lower filters on my laptop and also the dvd icon is there on my laptop but it doesnt read any dvd or cd or any data from dvd drive.
I would assume this problem has come up a number of times but I can't seem to find the exact topic. I just got a new desktop, an Acer Aspire AM3910-U4012
OS : Windows 7 Proc: 3.2GHz - dual core Cache : 4MB RAM: 6GB DDR3 1333MHz (2x2gb, 2x1gb) HD: 1TB Graphics Card: Intel HD Graphics Power Supply : 300W Motherboard: Intel H57
I plan on adding a new video card, and most likely will also have to up the power supply if I do so.
The issue I am having is the computer is only running 4G of RAM. I ran DXDiag and it recognizes the 6G but for some reason I am not getting 100% of my RAM.
i have 6gb of memory installed on a core i7 system and it shows that i have 6gb installed but says only 4gb useable. now i checked to make sure it was x64 OS and indeed it is how do i get it to read the other 2gb? i have 3x 2gb sticks in
I have a HD from my now ex-W7 pc which has a whole lot of files and images I need to lift.I have hooked the drive (sata) to my XP pc and tried to access them, but - nsurprisingly - they are not accessible straight off...What steps do I need to take to be able to read and recover these files to my XP machine?
just started cropping up about 2 days ago. For some reason, when I use my laptop on battery, the screen will go completely dark after about a minute of use. This most recently happened this morning. The first time this happened, I just held down my power button, and then turned the laptop on after a minute's wait. On that occasion, the laptop started up again, and it seemed to be waking up from hibernate or something.
But this morning, when I held down the power button and tried to turn it on again, it wouldn't. I plugged in my charger, and then the laptop was able to resume Windows, but the weirdest thing is, it said my battery was at 0%. The reason that seems odd to me is because it was fully charged last night. Right before the random screen turnoff, I checked my battery status, and it said 94%. So why did it go down to 0% after a minute and a half of use?
Now that my laptop is on, and connected to the charger, it is fully charged after about 10 minutes. Is it Windows 7? Or is it my laptop? The laptop will be 3 years old this November. Working on battery hasn't been a problem except for these past few days, and I haven't installed any new programs, or altered any settings that I'm aware of.
My laptop, running Windows 7, suddenly started giving me an error message with code 10, and says "You need to format the disk before you can use it, do you want to format now", every time I insert a thumb drive or an SD ram card. When I go into disk management it shows that they are both "raw"n but when I insert them into my desktop running XP they read fine and disk management shows them as fat32. Why would Windows 7 suddenly start reading the fat32 thumb drives and SD ram cards as Raw? How can I get it to read them, as they read fine on other computers? I also have an external cdrom/dvd drive (because Windows 7 won't recognise the internal cdrom either), and also have an external hard drive that work fine.
i have win7 on 1 drive and a bunch of games on another drive, i decided to make a partition of 70gb on the drive with games on to put XP on to it so i can dual boot win7 and xp, so i restarted the computer and proceeded to install xp on said partition..when it booted back up from the first phase of the xp install it gave "an error reading disk"...press ctrl alt delete and a few weird artifacts on the screen message...i had to run a repair from the win7 cd on the MBR to get it to boot up again..why is the xp install failing ?is it because i tried to install xp on 2nd partition?
When I turned it on, first I see is it's not starting the programs that display in the right side. The audio says it's not running and it displays the icon with an "x" on it. It also display the safely remove hardware and my antivirus. The internet icon won't show up. The Action Center won't start either. When I try to go to setting up a network it just says it's not "detecting any network hardware". I went to device manager and everything is there and apparently working properly. How can I fix this?
I use IBT (Intel Burn Test) to test my stability and when I disable HT I get a speed reading of 55 GFlops and each test takes 139 seconds on very high stress level, so I tought to myself hey why don't I activate HT again because I have it so why not use it, started IBT and it shows me a speed of 46 GFlops and it takes 161 seconds for each test how is this possible, Should not HT increase the calculation speed of the computer?
