Where To Tell Windows 7 To Use Only Details View At All Times
Mar 2, 2011
I HATE the various icon views. I'd like Win7 to ONLY use details view. It's annoying when Win7 reverts to icon view when I'm saving a file, or when I'm inserting an image in Word.Where can I tell Win7 to use only details view at all times and in all situations?
I've running Windows 7.I want to set the Windows Explorer view to permanently display the files in the "details" view. I can't seem to be able to achieve it.In XP it was just a case of setting the view to details and then choosing folder options on the menu bar and pressing the apply to all folders button. And windows explorer wouuld display all the files and folders in the "details" view.I can't seem to do this in Windows 7.
I set the columns and their widths in "details" view for almost all folders in a certain way in WinExplorer.
Sometimes (I guess when the dir contains e.g. videos *.avi) additional columns where automatically shown, the column order and width differs.
I don't want in any case to see a "type" and "length" columns. How can I set a details view really for all folders on my hard disc even when it contains *.avi videos or other multimedia stuff?
Just wondering if anyone has discovered a registry hack to get Windows Explorer to show file size in details view as KB, MB, GB as appropriate? FreeCommander has had this option for years.
discovered a way to change the Windows 7 file and folder view to "List" view instead of the default Win 7 "Details" view?In WinXP, you simply went to Folder Options dialog box >> "View" tab and it allowed you to change the view for an entire drive with one click. Win 7 does not do this.much prefer "List" view, but the only way to change it is folder-by-folder which becomes aggravating after several dozen folder changes.Plus, once you have changed the file view inside of a folder to "List" view... if you change the folder name, every file and folder, no matter how deep, inside that re-named folder will return to "Details" view.hat a PITA...I have Googled this and searched for some time, but have come up with no answer, I thought I might ask the folks at Tom's and see what we come up with.
How do I get Outlook2003 to display emails (when viewing not editing) in Arial and not in Times New Roman? I have tried *everything*.
- I have tried setting internet explorer 8 (I tried MSIE 9 too out of desperation but have now uninstalled it) MSIE8 > Tools > Internet Options > Fonts > Latin Based > WebPage Font = Arial
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Message format > Word 2003 to Edit email messages. But this Word 2003 is not used when just viewing an email.
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Stationery and Fonts > Use this stationery by default > None
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Stationery and Fonts > Use this stationery by default > Johns_Stationery. (I specially set up Johns_Stationery with Arial, 11pt in use) but this makes no difference to viewing an email.
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Stationery and Fonts > Use this stationery by default > Fonts > When composing a new message > Arial, regular 11 points
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Stationery and Fonts > Use this stationery by default > Fonts > When replying and forwarding > Arial, regular 11 points
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Stationery and Fonts > Use this stationery by default > Fonts > When composing and reading plain text > Arial, regular 11 points
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Stationery and Fonts > Use this stationery by default > Fonts > International Font > Western European > Proportional Font > Arial > Set as user defined
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Stationery and Fonts > Stationery Fonts > Use the font specified in stationery (if specified)
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Stationery and Fonts > Stationery Fonts > Use my font when replying and forwarding
- I have also tried Outlook2003 > Tools > Options > Mail Format > Stationery and Fonts > Stationery Fonts > Always use my fonts.
- I have even changed the signature to no signature and I have tried editing the signature to be in Arial AND later I tried rebuilding the signature to have text but to not have any font...
None of the above seem to have any effect on how an new HTML email is displayed (if it does not contain its own font).
In Windows Explorer, Detail View, is there a way to remove/disable the additional columns? (ie: Track, Artist, length, etc) I'm a simple person, and only want the main columns displayed, (Size, Type, Date) and Windows 7 seems to ignore me when i change the views. Even the "Reset All", and "Apply to All" seem to be ignored after a day later. In XP your could remove them from RegEdit under HKCRSystemFileAssociations and deleting the "Audio", "Video", and "Images" keys, and Explorer would 'forget' how to handle them, and details view would remain the same, but Windows 7 doesn't seem to respond to this either.
Why are certain details, such as Frame Height, allowed in Windows Explorer when looking in a specific folder, but are missing when searching the contents of the same folder? For example, I'm inside a folder (in details view) of video files and ask Explorer to show details of Frame Height. It will show that for certain file types. But when I search for one of the files by name, the Frame Height will be blank for the same file it just showed me the info for.
Is there any way to make the details of a FLV file, especially resolution and runtime, show up in the details view of Windows explorer? I have the Shark007 codec pack, and can see thumbnails just fine, but no information about the FLV files, other than their file size, shows up in the details view, or the file properties.I need to clean out some of my older saved videos, rather than buy a new hard drive, and I would like to start by getting rid of the low res and short runtime stuff.
I have a lop top with Windows 7 64 bit OS. Of lately, Windows update keeps failing to install some software updates. Here are the details of the s/w that would not install[CODE]
So far ,the only info i can find about my realtek NIC aren't helping me much, so i can't find a more recent driver . Device manager and the realtek network diagnostic utility tool only give minimal details about my NIC.
I would just like to ask why I can't see the little blue bar which usually is next to the partition or drive... You can take a look here: [URL] I've tried all the different viewings possible but none of them make it look like this: [URL]
i've notices windows 7 add all sort of new meta data for it's video files.which is cool, but for some reason i cant edit those details. they seems to be locked. How can i Edit video details??
When I reformatted my computer I backed up my music onto a separate hard drive, after the format it all got put back onto my computer again but after the move some music files refuse to accept changes to their file details i.e. changes to genre, track title, album artist etc. I have full permissions to modify files and it will allow me to make changes either in WMP or in file properties, but as soon as I set the new details it will snap back to the previous version like I'd never touched them.
I m using win 7 home premium . is there any sw available to maintain our personal details .. details like mail id , website , driving licence no or scanned driving license copy , Account number (not password) , blood group , etc., simply want to maintain every records and details of myself in a single file ..
I can't seem to change some (but not all) music file details even when I have the ownership. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have done all the usual stuff. Right clicked on Properties, gone into Security, checked I have Full control. I have then gone into Advanced and changed the ownership to myself and still nothing. The only thing I think is strange is that there seems to be several entries in the Security tab on properties, and for that matter in the Advanced bit, of users/groups with similar titles all connected with me. For example 'steve (steve-PCsteve)', which is the one I usually use for ownership.
Also 'Administrator (steve-PCAdministrators)', which has ownership of a few files. Last is 'Users (steve-PCUsers)'. The is also 'Authenticated users', 'SYSTEM' and on one file I found 'WMPNetworkSvc'. All of these are usually listed on the Security tab and usually in the Advanced section. I have managed to change some music files to my ownership and change the details but not all. I have all my music on an external hard drive and on my C drive. Don't want to loose such a briliant collection now do I.
I recently built a new gaming computer. It runs everything smoothly, but there is one glaring problem that I cannot seem to shake. My computer will at unpredictable times halt everything (freeze) for 1-3 seconds and then resume. During this time, all sound seems to be directed to a different audio port. It seemed to start with my audio. I would plug in speakers, and then I would plug in a 3.5mm headset and it would intermittently (and rapidly) detect the headset. Looking at my realtek audio software, the input that the headset was plugged into would rapidly turn on and off. Plugged speakers into that port and it worked with no problems. The headset is not to blame because I used it with no problem on my laptop. I then suspected it was a problem since I was doing dual audio output. I downloaded the newest drivers from the ASUS site for the realtek audio manager. My computer would still do the intermittent freezing. I have read some suggestions that it may be my memory configuration. I am a programmer and not a hardware specialist, so I am unfamiliar with how a memory configuration works and how to correct this problem. I downloaded a memory qvl update from the ASUS site, and it only seemed to bring up a console window for a split second before fading out.
When copying files in Windows 7, the box that shows the copying process has the "more details" button that shows more information. I really like to look at that info and would really like to not have to click the "more details" button for each copying process. Is there a way to tweak the registry to make the default show the more detail view instead of the less details view?
There's something about Windows that has always puzzled me. Let's say you have a directory in which there are some additional directories (folders) and some standalone files. When in that directory you select details for your viewing mode. Right click on a standalone file, select properties and you'll see the file size. Do the same for a folder and you'll see the folder size. This tells you that the information about the size of the file or folder is present. Yet when you select view details, the size of the standalone files is displayed but the size of the folders is not displayed. The only reason I can imagine Microsoft does this is because they make a bunch of money when people like me get so annoyed with this that we buy software such as folder size (which I use). But I didn't pay one dime for the folder size software, as I got it free from a third party vendor. So the reason can't be because they make a bunch of money selling the folder size software.
'm an aspiring author, so I use Microsoft office Word 2010 quite a bit on my laptop. I tried adding properties to my latest document such as Author, and my computer kept coming back to me with the error code 0x80004005. I know that the properties aren't exactly a big deal on a word document, but I'm trying to figure out how to fix my various computer issues whenever they come up.
I am running lock down accounts on my machine for certain users and installing software done through Admin account.I need an advice, whether is there any tools that available to track specifically which folder or registry keys that needed access control in locked users profile. Thus i can give permission only for this components instead of unlocking un-neccessary folder structure.I notice there is Filemon & Regmon but this is not software specific.
Outlook 2010 shared calendar showing up as busy with no details. Just started to happen and I've checked the permission on the calendar and the other user who's having the issue is set as publish editor. There are several other people that have been given access to the calendar and they are not having this issue.

I am currently attempting to install windows 7 pro on my computer. I have successfully done so before but I wanted to clean up my hard drive so i decided to re install it. Now I only see Disk 1 Partition 1 and I can't install windows 7 on it. I get a message "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 1 Partition 1. (Show details)".
