Where Is Xp Virtual Pc Drive On Windows 7

Sep 5, 2012

Also it has gotten corrupted in some way and when I try to open it it says "could not enable integration features". When I press continue it then says "The operation failed. The virtual machine is not running". Is there any way I can recover my files or am I to remain for ever a victim of this software?

Installing Windows 7 With Virtual Drive

Jan 11, 2009

I'm not able to burn the image to a DVD because, well, I don't have a DVD burner. I figured I'd mount it to a virtual drive and install it to another partition that way, but it's been so long since I've used virtual drive software I'm not sure how I'd do it. Once I mount the image to a virtual drive (I will be using VirtualCloneDrive5), what do I do next? Secondly, my computer is an HP and all the recovery data (drivers) is on its own partition on the harddrive already. This means I can't access the drivers, though I can just download them off HP's site. My question is, though, will at any point during the Windows 7 installation will I be prompted to install any drivers? I don't want to be installing and then have it ask for drivers that I haven't burned to a disc yet.

Install Bootable Windows 7 On A Virtual Hard Drive?

Nov 6, 2012

I'm trying to install 7 on a VHD using the command prompt. Now it does work but the problem is that it installs 7 Basic when I do it like this. I have Professional. Now I can use the Anytime Upgrade and use my product key to get Pro activated but because I'm in basic, 7 won't work on the VHD at boot. When it asks for my product key upon first time setup, it doesn't work since it's looking for a Basic product key.

Is there a way to get 7 Pro on the VHD through the CMD?

Can't Install To Virtual Drive

Feb 27, 2010

What I've done:

1. Boot from Windows 7 DVD
2. Shift-F10 to command prompt
3. created the vdisk
4. selected the vdisk
5. attached the vdisk
6. exit back to install screens

When I select my vhd I get the normal message saying it cannot install but when I click the Next button, I get an error saying there isn't enough free space on the selected device but it shows the whole drive as free space. It won't let me continue with the install.I've tried creating the partition from diskpart and it still doesn't work.

DVD Drive Will Not Work In Virtual XP

May 6, 2009

I have windows 7 installed on HP elite with Phenom Quad Core processor. This was a clean install and 7 runs flawlessly, including all DVD drive functions. However, when I open the Virtual XP environment and try to use my dvd drive I get a "corrupted path or file" error. I noticed that the drive letter of the DVD in Virtual XP is "D" - which is the same letter as what appears to be the restore partition in Vista, while the DVD drive letter in Vista is "E".

I tried changing the drive letter in XP but that did not work. My DVD drive shows up in devices, there are no apparent conflicts and the troubleshooter determines that the device is working properly. As most of my XP software I need to install is on disc, I have no way of getting my software into XP, hoping someone else has encountered this problem, please, I am not a computer geek so go easy on me. I know just about enough to get around and get myself in trouble.

Readyboost Is NOT Virtual RAM From A Flash Drive

Jan 15, 2013

Readyboost is NOT virtual RAM from a flash drive.Readyboost is NOT RAM at all.Readyboost is a cache used by your hard drive.Basically it copies stuff you normally use to the speedy Readyboost cache, where it can be used faster.Readyboost give an all round performance boost, and is more noticeable with older, slower hard drives. The more you have, and the faster it is means more boost.Readyboost yields the most with small file browsing, boot up time, windows operations, and some programs you use.I have 20GB of readyboost, I got that instead of upgrading my HDD to a SSD or hybrid.

Backup Virtual Hard Drive Disappeared

Oct 10, 2010

I recently had much trouble with my computer and was reinstalling OS many times! XP and windows 7. When I was installing windows 7 there were 3 virtual drives one about 400 mb named windows reserved and 2 others each (300gb) the 3d one was backup. I formatted first 2 deleted partitions, made 1 partition formatted again and then installed windows. The 3d virtual hard drive backup disappeared with all my stuff. Now I just have Local disc C: which is 300 gb and nothing else. So I am missing 300gb virtual hard drive with my stuff, where did it go?

Computer is Inter (R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 530@2.93GHz

Worth Partitioning Virtual Hard Drive?

Feb 8, 2012

I have 4 physical hard drives, 2 of them are 150GB and 2 of them are 1000GB. Both are mirrored at the pre O/S level in order to provide redundancy. On the 150GB mirror I installed the host operating system (Win Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V) and the 1000GB mirror is just a Data drive. I've created my Virtual server in Hyper-V and allocated it 500GB from the 1000GB mirror. When I start up the virtual Server in order to install the o/s I will be asked whether to partition this "Virtual hard drive" i.e., have a C: drive for the virtual o/s and a d: drive for the virtual data. Of course they would be on the same physical disk anyway so should I bother partitioning the Virtual 500GB drive.

Uninstall Virtual CD Drive Created By MagicDisk?

Jul 10, 2012

I installed MagicDisk awhile back because I was trying to mount a copy of memtest. Anyways, I ended up uninstalling MagicDisk, but the virtual cd-rom drive it created stayed behind.

So, I went to device manager and uninstalled it, and thought I had solved the problem.

However, every time my computer either boots or even wakes up from sleep mode, windows automatically reinstalls the drivers and re-enables the virtual cd-rom drive.

Does anyone know where to find the registry files I have to delete to tell my windows installation that I don't want that drive anymore?

Physical To Virtual Machine & Share Boot Drive?

May 31, 2012

XP: Physical to Virtual & Share Drive w Host? Disk2VHD vs VMWare P2V? Physical-to-Virtual - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia My Thinkpad X61T with recent 8GB DDR2 Upgrade:I have an XP Pro 3 instance on a HDD able to use 2.99 GB RAM. I can backup bunch of data files to make size smaller.I have a Win 7 x64 instance on another HDD that can use most of the 8GB RAM. Now, I'd like to do two things:

1. Virtualize the XP instance and create a Virtual Disk/ Virtual Machine, with all of the Programs & Settings intact.

2. Run this XP on top of Win 7 x64 Host and "Slowly" Migrate Files/ Settings/ MetaData etc. from GUEST XP to HOST machine.I'd prefer to be able to SHARE "the C: or Boot Drive" between the GUEST & HOST machines (as it is mounted/ running) and be able to COPY some Specific Files/Folders using ROBOCOPY/ RICHCOPY to maintain attributes that could/ easily get lost with any other copy method.Thoughts/ suggestions, experiences, comparative reviews on using Software/ Tools out of the above listed page and how could go about doing both the things.do let me know UPDATE: Some advise/ suggestions I got on another forum was. Quote: If it were me, I'd use DISK2VHD on the XP hard drive, copy it to the Windows 7 machine, install XP Mode, and fire it up like that.An alternative, in some ways better, would be to use VMWare's P2V converter on the XP machine, install VMWare Player on the 7 machine, and load the virtual machine on there. If you're just worried about docs / settings / etc, I'd suggest skipping virtualization and just use Windows Easy Transfer to make a clean break. I've used VMWare and Virtual PC a LOT in the past, but not used in a long time. I know some functionality for items 1 & 2 exist but wanted to get a comparative idea between the various options LISTED in the Link. I guess I was a little out of touch when I realized so many products existed just to do P to V. I remember only VMWare had that for a while. For me the ability to "share" & "copy" these files is critical. PS: Also, I may or may not have enough storage on the Win 7 x64 drive so I'll have to run the guest VM from a USB 2.0 HDD. Would that work okay? For now, if the suggestion give by someone from the other forum still holds. What are the pros vs cons of Disk2VHD vs VMWare? (Given the specifics of my scenario?)Esp Sharing Drive & Copying using RoboCopy/ Richcopy (To maintain Modified/ Created Dates .. Wish there was way to keep Accessed Date)

Windows 7 Virtual PC: "Cannot Attach The Virtual Hard Disk ..." Error?

Sep 6, 2012

Got a new Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit machine, found that it did not come with virtual PC. Downloaded the critical patch Windows6.1-KB958559-x64-RefreshPkg.msu and installed it. Windows Virtual PC shows up in my Start Menu. Good so far. I go through the steps to create a virtual machine and use the option to 'use an existing vhd file' and when I click 'Create' I get the above pop-up message "Cannot attach the virtual hard disk to the virtual machine. Check values and try again". A factual message but completely useless as with all error messages from Microsoft. I have tried the following:1. When I attach that vhd using Disk Management, it mounts in drive E:, I can see the files and browse the dirs in E:. In the Disk Management View, the drive shows up as 127 Gigs but 107 is unallocated space. The physical size of the vhd is only 25 Gigs2. Others in my company were able to create the virtual machine with the same vhd, checked the byte size and timing, so nothing is wrong with the vhd file itself.

3. Tried to create after shutting down all virus protection including the Micorsoft antimalware protection service. No luck4. Tried Vhd resize to resize the vhd to a smaller size (since it showed up in disk management as 127 Gigs, I thought maybe it was that size), but VHDResizer could not open the input file, gave an errors "Can only load fixed or dynamic drives"

Cannot Start Virtual Application, The Application Is Blocked From Running As A Virtual Application

Oct 26, 2011

Our office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application. If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:

Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.

I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.

Migrate Virtual Windows 7 To New PC?

I'm going to upgrade my pc hardware, pretty much all of it since it's been "a while" (try 2009 since last time).

Is there any way I can migrate my Windows 7 professional to the new PC? I would like to completely format my HDD before moving it to my new machine and then reinstall my OS on it. It is a downloaded version so I haven't got a cd but it is legit, I have got the key and it is activated. Would there be a way to deactivate the key for this pc and then reactivate it on the new one with the same key?
