When Does Windows 7 Begin To Use Red When Showing Hdd's In Computer
Oct 28, 2011
My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. When I go to Start, Computer, to view my internal and external hdd's I see that my WD 1 TB is in the red even though there is 76,3 GB of free space; My Book 2TB is in the red even though there is 23,3 GB of free space. To me that is a LOT of free space on each of these two external hdd's. My question is, with so much available free space of each hdd why are they pictured in the red? I could understand if I had only a few gig's of free space but 76 and 23 GB? My guest is that Windows uses a red color whenever a certain percentage of the hdd is used but I am not sure.
I am trying to install windows 7 from dvd on a hdd previously used as a second drive for space. I got a computer from work that didn't have an hdd and so just plugged it in. I set the bios to boot from the dvd drive but after the bios loads, it goes to a black screen with 2 numbers at the bottom right. They flash for a bit and then settle on 94 and it just hangs there indefinitely. I have absolutely no idea how to proceed here. I have tried resetting the bios settings but nothing seems to get me past this point.
CPU-intel 2600k i7 3.4 ghz PSU-Rosewill 1000W GPU- Asus ENGTx580 MB- Asus sabertooth p67 RAM- Ballistix DDR3 PC3-16000 (which they list as compatible) have 4 sticks of 4gig but only one in right now HD- Crucial 128Gig SSD also have a WD 1.5 Tb Case- coolermaster Haf X DVD- LG bluray
I got everything on friday and have been trying to get it to work. I put everything together as instructed and have checked multiple times. The system will turn on and every device has power and all the fans turn and lights light up. However i can't get windows 7 64bit to install. First off it takes a good 5-15 minutes to either enter bios setup or get it to let me boot off a dvd(already changed boot order) and after this point with the windows 64 bit disc in the drive it comes up with a "windows is loading files" bar which fills, goes away, returns, fills again, then goes away. at this point all that appears is a small scattering of dots about an inch off the bottom of the screen. I have had the 32 bit go past this point but have not installed it.
I used the 64 bit disc on my laptop with the ssd and was able to install it but the new build would get the same scattering of dots when i try to boot from this so i am formating the ssd again and will attempt to go through the entire 32 bit installation.
Edit- I have also flashed to the latest bios that asus has for the board and the 5-15 minute boot consists of a black screen for a minute or so followed by the asus screen teelling me to push delete to enter bios setup, then whether i do or not it shows the same set of black and asus screens two more times before doing anything (once again very slowly)
I tried 'Scheduling disk check' from both cmd and tools but every time I restart my computer, or turn it off and then on, it will skip the chkdsk and start Windows normally.I am getting a lot of 'corrupted file' errors and it's suggesting I run a chkdsk, but like I said, I can't figure out a way to do so. It's causing me a big headache.
iam using windows 7 64 bits in my acer laptop model no ASPIRE 4738Z.my laptop was worked finely about 6 months but now i cannot find my dvd drive in my computer .when i inserted any dvd or vcd it cannot detect and it cannot read.
I was updating my window suddenly it shut off due to power failure but problem is that now my computer is not booting and showing a fatal error. Now tell me what I have to do. I am using Acer Aspire (5738G) window 7 ultimate 32-bit.

In Windows 7 Explorer, the Computer icon is not showing in the left pane--neither in the default view or the 'show all folders' view.
You can see from the screen captures that I have Explorer set to open to Computer, but no Computer in left pane, and no drives are accessible directly through Explorer.
The drives are fine (from using alternate Explorer alternatives).
How can I get the Computer icon back in the left pane?
I'm new to Windows 7 (Ultimate) and like to have a machine that runs nice and fast with no unessential items running in the background. Last night I did a bit of tweaking (mostly in gpedit.msc) and went a step too far, but I'm not sure which step I need to undo and haven't been able to find a solution in a 4 hour google session. When I click on My Computer, the cupboard is bare.I have a 500gb drive partitioned into C: and D: and a DVD drive E:The right pane is empty, and when I plug in a USB drive it doesn't show either. When I click on libraries, I can manually enter C: or D: in the address bar but it's a bit inconvenient. I usually use Total Commander rather than Windows explorer, but it's been difficult to set up my downloads location etc as they don't appear in the available options. In device manager the disk is showing.
Someone else computer is showing up under Networks on my computer. Must be someone who lives in this building. How do I keep this from showing up and if her's shows up on mine, does mine show up on hers?
I am using Windows 7 enterprise modified like windows 8 and my CD ROM DRIVE is not showing up in my computer. My cd boots when starting up but not showing on my computer. I have went into cmd prompt > regedit > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Class > {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}(CD ROM CLASS) and there was no uperclass filter or lowerclass filter available so I could delete them.I will be really happy if you could tell me anything else I could try to get my CD ROM DRIVE back.
I am running a Packard Bell desktop, model BV ixtremeX9610 with Win7 home premium. A couple of times I have fired it up and the displayed time in the task bar has been wrong. Also have a clock widget on the desktop page which is about 5 hours out. Emails have time stamps which are way out. This sounds like a CMOS battery problem to me, but when I asked a 'Tech guy' from Packard Bell and enquired which battery type I need he assured me that the machine didn't have one! I have reset the clock using the bios - but the widget clock is still wrong.Time zones checked, OK. Must admit, haven't actually checked motherboard yet, but feel sure there MUST be a CMOS battery there.
My computer is getting really hot lately (CPU can get to 96C/~200F), and I have some weird bugs as well. I have an HP pavilion laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate.
Some of the bugs are when SOMETIME I'm trying to delete a big file, it says "discovering..." but doesn't delete anything. When I open certain folders the green bar at the top just keeps on loading and loading even after all the previews of pictures/videos are done. Sometimes it doesn't even show the previews of some pictures/videos (and it did show without a problem in the past). It also happened to me that I opened the control panel, and I couldn't see anything (usually when the temp are really high and the fan is on max). After restarting my computer everything turned back to normal, but then it happens again...
For an antivirus I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials and for anti-malware I'm using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
I bought a 1TB WD HDD a week ago. I copied a bunch of movies in but when I got home and tried to watch the movies in my laptop, the drive is not showing under my computer. I went into computer management and under Disk Management I saw my passport under Disk 1, Disk 0 is showing as my Drive C. I tried to change the drive letter coz I was thinking that was the problem, but it will not allow me to change the drive letter.
Since my new comp has been built, about a month ago, every now and then when I power up the computer it fails to display anything on my monitor. I look into the case and see that the red VGA LED is lit up on the motherboard. Whenever this happens, I take my GPU out and reinsert it, close up the case, power up and it works again.
Motherboard is Asus P8P67 Pro B3 Rev GPU is Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 SO
I just noticed it today, but there is an extra drive in the My Computer window, I use TrueCrypt as well as a hot swap bay for a SATA drive. When I try to open it, the drive says Not accessible, Access is Denied. Disk manager and Disk Part all only show my 5 physical drives that are indeed there. How can I get rid of this extra drive?
I have a Windows 7 machine that stops recognizing the installed printers after printing a couple of files. If you reboot the machine, it will recognize the installed printers, but then stops seeing them after trying to print again.
I am hoping someone can advise me on how to remove the old computer name from task manager. I have changed the name of the user account in user settings, but annoyingly the old name shows up in task manager.
My hubby is running Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit on an Emachines PC.
Intermittently picture thumbnails and program icons will suddenly stop showing up and will turn to only blank white icons. (Sometimes it affects a few files or the whole folder) You can see the thumbnails one minute, go out and back into the directory, and they are gone. Refreshing the folder view does not bring the thumbs back.
Going into other folders is fine and thumbnails show, but once it fails on a particular folder, it will continue to NOT show thumbs or icons for that folder until a restart is done. We have also tried to clean the thumbnails cache to no avail. This problem happens on all drives, flash drives, network drives, local drives, etc...)
There is one other bug that may be related. Sometimes his My Computer will not load. He can get to My Documents etc... but My Computer hangs forever until he restarts. It is an intermittent problem as well so hard to debug.
*Insert token disclaimer about not knowing if this is the correct forum for this* It looks like it so I'll go with it.
I've got a problem that popped up the other night when I decided I wanted to restore my system to a previous time due to a BSOD I received and had a feeling it was due to CCleaner.
Regardless, I'm now unable to see my E: drive, as shown in the screenshot, on the left side of Explorer under Computer. It shows up fine in the main window there but not on the side. I can't even rename it, I had it named previously.
When i connect the first USB Stick (1 GB Kingston) everything it's ok, it shows up in Explorer, but when i try to connect the other one (i have two) it wont show up, but i can access it if i just type the drive letter in the address bar (J:).Also if i try to connect my phone as a USB device or any other memory stick, same problem...not showing up in Computer window.
I have an HP All-in-One Pvilion desktop and it has been returned on more than one occasion. When I turn the computer on, the date is 2008. What can I do to halt this?
Several days ago, while my computer is at sleeping condition, but hardware yellow switch light is't showing, so I hit the switch,it caused computer shout down, I restart computer, then I found the green light is not showing too, but side yellow light is blinking, what is the problem? and how to repair? My computer is still working in very good condition.
I am running WIN7 64 Bit, BT wireless hub. Have added a laptop (also running WIN7 64 bit) to home network and set up HP Photosmart Premium 309g printer as 'wireless'. It works a treat with the laptop but my desktop computer tells me the printer is off line.
Last night, i noticed i had low memory on my C drive. so I uninstalled a few programs - games mostly and needless addons - and then restarted. After restarting, the laptop got stuck at the bootup screen, at about 70%, then persisted to say "operating system not found" repeatedly.
This morning, after turning it on, it now gets past this screen, but says theres a "SMART failure predicted" on on my Hard drive. It also says ahard drive fail;ure is imminent. It does this for a few minutes, and then gets 'stuck' again at 70% at startup.
So.. is this a problem with my HDD? Everything points to this, but I'm not sure of my next step? Do i need to reinstall windows (problem, seeing as i don't have an installation disc)
