What Is Minimum Number Of Services Needed To Run As A Server
Aug 16, 2011
We are using one of our computers to use as a MineCraft server. It will be hooked up to the Internet so its IP is accessible. Firstly, what Windows services can I disable at startup since we won't be using it for anything other than as a server? Secondly, what precautions should I take to keep hackers out?.
I'm trying to sort out issues with my Windows 7 machine and want to disable/set to manual services that I know are not needed, but every time I have done this in the past (a while ago now) I invariably run into an issue where I've inadvertently disabled a service that was needed by something, and I end up scratching my head (as all of my hair falls out around this point) and enabling everything just to sort it..
Is there any utility that anyone is aware of that lets you toggle service status, with the option to reset to default or reset to last status, while showing a list of services that I've changed?
I can't seem to word it properly for a search engine to find relevant results, and find usually specific services and not something I'm hoping exists.
I wish the Services.msc mmc had a checkbox or some sort of flag to show altered services so you could sort them by that, which would help a lot, but it doesn't.
lots of Bsod's while simply use (firefox, movie, idle) and not on gamming (battlefield 3 )i even tried to post here 3 times now and got BSOD so i'm gonna try to be quick and simple..

So, I recently installed Windows 7 on my aunt's old PC: Pentium 4 Prescott "A" 2.8GHz, 768 MB RAM, GeForce FX5200. Runs quite well, even with glass on and MSE running in the background. Now, my mom needs her computer reformatted. It's currently running Windows XP, and I wonder if it can make the jump to 7: Celeron 1.2 GHz (I do believe it's a Tualatin, though; if it is, that makes it as good or better than Pentium 4 Willamettes) 512 MB PC133 SDRAM, and some newer nVidia PCI card. Can it manage it? I actually made Windows 7 "usable" on a Duron Mobile 800 MHz with 512 MB RAM and integrated GPU before.
after i play some game sometimes the monitor resolution changes to the smallest value something like 1100 x 700 .. i must log out and log back in to user or reboot to get back my normal resolution 1920 x 1080 on my SyncMaster B2330HD monitor .WHY and how do i fix this annoying problem
I have just set up an HTPC and would like to partition the drive so that I have a small drive of, say 32gb for OS and the rest for storage. According to the system (after fist shrink) the c drive is 204gb free of 295gb, but I can't shrink it further. I've done a disc clean up and emptied the recycle bin. What can I do to shrink this to a minimum?
I have a HP Compaq CQ57 notebook that came with windows 7 starter. I installed Win 7 Ultimate but when I try to install the drivers, it say that the computer does not meet the minimum specifications. I think it is something that I have not loaded because it gives this error with every driver, even the wireless network driver
i recently formatted my Samsung n102 netbook. i forgot to take backup before formatting . i lost all the drivers installed and data's i saved. i just need to get the default drivers and programs which is already installed while i purchase, is there any option to get the default things....

The thing is that the machine was running win7 before and it gave some error when i have compressed the system disk c. i have also the drivers cd for the machine the one that was with the machine when i bought it.

third monitor displayed, graphic card only supports two monitors, however I need to get a third up and running. RE14842 is the driver and I get this error, coworker has the exact same drivers and hardware, only thing that is different is I had mine imaged from previous OS, coworker did not.
I installed Intel Management Engine Driver, Intel Chipset Driver, Intel USB3.0 Driver, Realtek High Definition Audio Driver but i couldn't install many other drivers like Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver, Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for 7x series, Intel Smart Connect Technology Driver it says "Platform Check Failed: Unsupported Hardware" or "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."
my usb port is not working and one said that install the intel chipset software but while installing i am getting system does not meet minimum requirements
I am trying to set up a home server with filezilla server. I am following this site's tutorial to help secure the data flow: [URL]. After doing all of this, I get an error saying "Invalid IP address/range/mask".
Have been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.
I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.
(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).
The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.
I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".
I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.
It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).
I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.
Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.
This guy does a great job at this .

Windows 7 VM's run just fine on W2008 server (they should as there is a lot of common code).
Just for fun, I want to attempt to install Windows 7 on a computer that does not meet the official minimum system requirements.
Specs of this PC:
Cyrix MII @ ~300 MHz 768 MB (256 x 3) 100 MHz SDRAM (not DDR) ATI Rage 128 AGP graphics card 80 GB SATA HDD (upgraded, with PCI card for the SATA)
I put the specs of most concern in bold. As for the video card, I can upgrade that if need be. What I'm really wondering is... can the Cyrix II even process the instructions for Windows 7 (albeit extremely slowly, of course) or is its instruction set simply too old?
I am having a problem of installing several driver into a VM which run on Dell Latitude E4310, it prompt me, "the system doesn't meet minimum requirement to.... ", let's take display driver for this case. The driver I download from dell website.
Whenever I try to install the video driver for the dell latitude e6400 off their site, i get "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software." I have just reinstalled windows, this laptop is 4-5 years old and still works though.
I've installed windows seven just before Christmas, and it served me well till middle of February, when "I had to explore it a bit more".And of course,I have deleted something and there was no way to boot win 7 up again. It booted correctly, but after"starting windowws" everything stopped.I tried to fix it,but no,and even worse,I was kind of short with space on C partition(cos me idiot,of course, made it just 30 gigs),and have turned off system restore.
Just for the record how smart I am,I made win 7(beta OS ?!?) my primary and only OS.
I had to save my files and didn't reformat C partition right away cos I planned to reformat it after I take the ownership and back up my documents.
So,I have installed windows seven again on E partition, which is now, after reassaining letters,C partition. And literally, now I'm having dual boot, both windows seven, one is working and one not.I have backed up my files a long time ago from now,but still didn't format that partition, and today I decided to do it.
And here is what I don't know.
When I created my C partition for Windows 7 first time,I got an extra 200Mb partition, but when I've installed Windows 7 second time on that "E"partition,I didn't have to make that 200Mb extra partition.
And now I wonder should I merge that 200Mbs with another partition and format them together,or do I have to leave it where it is?
I'm not sure, and I don't even know if another win 7 installation is using that 200Mb partition or not?
What should I do?
And one more thing,I have deleted windows folder from ex "C" partition couple weeks ago.
