I have a "passwords file" which contains all the passwords for every account I have made. Now I know this isn't the safest thing, since it's on my computer where I can get a trojan and I can get every one hacked. So I wanted a place where I can store this file (maybe online storage)? So it's safe and not on my hard drive. I'm thinking Dropbox? How do I know it's safe and reliable there?
View 19 RepliesThis afternoon, I first found that ie8 stopped working, but chrome was still good. So, I restart the machine. I cannot get access to any websites any more even my router's admin page.
I can ping Google etc without any problem. There are another two PCs behind my router and they have no problem. The problematic PC has no problem accessing files intranet, remote desktop, ftp. I tried toggling DHCP, changing IPs, Firewalls, no luck.
I have family members who aren't very computer savvy but somehow get to the sites they shouldn't have, like to click on links they don't even understand (thus gets infected with viruses etc). I set up a limited windows 7 account for them, browser of choice is IE9, and I need software where I can make list of safe sites they can visit. all other sites should be blocked until added to that list. As I said before they aren't very computer savvy so I don't need something that is hack proof or anything. There is microsoft Family Safety in windows live essentials is that any good for this purpose? Is there any alternatives?

I have a 1 Tb external hard drive which is plenty of space for me to use for both.Can be either one program that performs both functions, or two separate programs. I don't want automatic backups, since I plan to store my external drive in a fireproof safe soon. I need the sync'd files to be browse-able (not contained in a single image file)...just like a flash drive basically. I would like something that only backs up new files or ones that have been changed (to cut back on backup time...but maybe this is standard for syncing and mirroring programs. ??) Needs to be able to handle long file names A nice GUI Cost - free to low (I'd pay up to $30ish...but free would be great) I was thinking of using Windows 7 Backup & Restore for the disk imaging, and then SyncToy for the file/folder syncing...but is this the best option?
I recently obtained a number of large video files. They have several different file types (file extensions). Among those types are:
.AVI .MKV .MPG .MPE .MP4 .WMV
There are other types as well.I'd very much like to perform some simple editing on these files. The most common editing operation is to extract or "split" a large file into several smaller component files. In other words, each of thse large files contain several small files - all strung together.For example, there may be 4 or 5 video clips in each file. Instead of creating one file for each "clip", the person who created these files just concatenated them all together in one file.So, I'd like to "split" each of these clips out of the single file and create a number of separate files - one for each clip.In addition, I would very much like to be able to convert files of one type to another type.I don't know a lot about the attributes of the various file types. I've read about them in Wikipedia and so I know a lttle about the reasons these file types were created and what the various differences are among them. The main reason that I'd like to convert most of these files to a single file type is that I consider it kind of sloppy to leave these files in there original file types.I have used the app Irfanview in the past to perform similar conversions on "still" files such as .JPEG or .GIF files.
1) How easy or difficult is it to convert video files from one type to another?
2) Should I expect to find one app that can do both editing and conversions? Or should I expect to get several different apps - some to convert files and some to edit files?
I need to be able to upload jpeg files to our website and the software package I use for that requires that the filename be entered in lower case in the format "filename.jpg". However, I've recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and note that JPG is being added in uppercase after my typed fileneme so that I end up with "filename.jpg.JPG" which is rejected by the uploading software. My web designer tells me that this is attributable to automatic file type recognition in Windows 7, and not to the upload software. How can I switch that off?

Ther are all kind of files and many are founded on several locations. I dont know if its safe to remove them and which exaclty should I remove( one from each group all etc). What put me on doubt even more is thati saw files bot located in c program data and in c users so I want to ask if its normal to have them simultaneusly in thse locations?
View 3 Replies View Relatedthis has been occurring ever since my computer was diagnosed with a trojan. i removed it, and ever since then no .EXE files will open. I will click on any .EXE file, the revolving circle signifying loading will show for a second, and then it won't load at all - the program is not present in the task manager. the weird thing is, there is no difference in safe mode. no .EXE file will run in any variation of safe mode. this prevents me from running ANYTHING apart from the command prompt, viewing folders, and notepad. i cannot load the internet, a virus scanner, NOTHING. it is difficult to fix something when one is literally unable to access anything. i have attempted the 'repair my computer' option when i press f8, but it says it can't be repaired automatically. i downloaded a registry fix from a different computer, but it reads the message "Could not import exefix.reg: Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes". I cannot load a registry fix, virus scanner, or the internet. i STILL cannot open .EXE files in any variation of safe mode. i do not have the windows 7 disc so i cannot reformat. additionally, the trojan appears to have erased all my system restore points, so i cannot restore to any previous time.

But I found out (too late) that according to Microsoft, System Restore done in Safe Mode is not able to be undone.I lost 1,000's of photos doing the system restore, now the only restore point option visible is what I believe to be the new one after I did the restore. Prior to me doing the System Restore, there were a number of times from me to choose from, I just chose one that was 10 days ago. Is there any software, method, or hack that I can use or do to recover the thousands of photos that were on my desktop and that were in folders on my desktop? It's a 1 TB HD?

Although I did like the quality and weight of the keys with CME vs M-Audio, I suspect M-Audio would have much better driver support and customer support for future updates, CME was certainly lacking in this department considering they didn't even provide a Vista driver for this damn thing. I browsed through forums and it seems that someone had created their own Vista driver for it by modyfing the XP one while others claimed that due to the hardware inside this keyboard, there would be no way to run it outside of an 32bit XP environment.
