May 31, 2012I cannot control the volume on my laptop using the volume buttons on the keyboard. The only one that works is the mute button. How do I get those to work? (the laptop is new)

View 1 RepliesI just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.
First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.
A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)
've been using a keyboard, that i bought in Albania, really cheap price, low profile keyboard named ACME. My PC Have been screwed up by it somehow.. i think, as now i cant press serval buttons on my Keyboard.I can't Press ENTER Anymore on my laptop keyboard, neither ''L'' and serval more buttons, which make it pointless to use my laptop now..I'm currently going back to norway, and i am leaving the low profile KB here, and i'd love to make the keyboard work 100% Again?I'm not sure why, but it does not let me press enter, or L, it ignores it, like it dosent even effect anything..I've got aHP Pavilion dv6 Laptop, windows 7, x64.-- The problem came up after i took out the keyboard, and my pc was shutten off.. now i cant use the laptop keyboard 100%, only 70% as most of the buttons dont even work
View 2 Replies View Relatedwithin the last week - I installed a fresh copy of Win 7 x64 SP1 on a new office workstation. I am using the Logitech K800 keyboard and J.River Media Center for media playback.
NOTE: I am using the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R motherboard and it's onboard Realtek Azalia HD audio chip. I am NOT using the Realtek drivers (more on that in a moment) - I am using the built in Windows 7 HD Audio drivers.
Long story short - I discovered some conflicts with the internals of the motherboard where the front panel headphone jack of my case (Antec P182) would exhibit static in the phones if moving the mouse on screen. Traced that to some weird issue with the USB ports so I had to install a separate front panel insert into the case and attached JUST the audio cable so I could get static free headphone listening.
Now the issue. When using J.River Media Center (and WASAPI Event Style from within Media Center) and I select "speakers" under it's Device Output area - I am able to use the Mute, Volume Up and Volume Down hot keys on the K800 to control the audio level that comes from the speakers.
But - if I change the Device Output to Headphones - using the exact same audio device - suddenly the three audio buttons (upper right of the keyboard by the Calculator button) suddenly do not work.
Couple things - I cannot recall in any previous build whether or not these button were working or not OR if I just decided to try them for the first time with headphones. I don't use headphones often with this machine but when I did in the past...volume seemed fine...just can't remember if I ever attempted to control it via keyboard
Also - when wrangling with that static issue in the headphone jack...I did install the actual Realtek drivers for 10 minutes to see if it would make a difference. It did not. Knowing the history of the Realtek crap and how one can never uninstall it correctly - I am wondering if I now have a conflict with old drivers, old registry entries or something else that might be contributing to this issue.
as described I use a Logitech G510 keyboard with multimedia keys and the posibility to insert a headset into it (the keyboard got its own soundcard). The keyboard also got a volume wheel which worked with Vista like it should: I could controle the speaker's volume by the keyboard.
Now with Win 7 I can't use the wheel anymore, even with the latest drivers.
My system:
OS Win 7 professional 32 bit
Intel core duo E4500 2,2 GHz; 2GB RAM
Sapphire HD5770 graphiccard
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CS36GJ laptop. I upgraded it from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). Now, my AV Mode and other shortcut buttons for volume, camera, etc. are not working. What driver should I download and install?

View 5 Replies View RelatedJust reinstalled windows 7 this weekend together with new hardware. But i have encountered some problems, both with sound and keyboard. On my keyboard which is a Logitech Ultra X (Ultra X) i have some buttons at the top, like Media, play/pause, www, email and mute. These have been working earlier on both windows xp and vista, but now they are not working. Very frustrating as i use them very often.
Do any of you guys in here have any idea about how this may be fixed?

View 5 Replies View Relatedrecently I got an error message from Norton called 3048, 3. I followed it to the download for Norton Power Eraser, which told me to restart my computer. I did. It ran and found nothing. The message popped up twice more. Then it stopped. I've run full scans on both Norton Internet Security 2012 and MBAM, and they have found nothing. I have tried to bootup in safe mode twice, but whenever I get to bootup menu I can't do anything. The arrow won't, the escape key won't work, even the enter key doesn't work. They all work fine in normal mode. I'm working with Windows 7 by the way on an HP laptop.

View 2 Replies View Relatedhaving migrated from XP to W7 (never experienced Vista). Quite frequently I encounter a problem with the mouse, in which it fails to (a) bring the auto-hidden taskbar into view, and (b) properly select functions normally controlled by button clicks. Problem arises once or twice a day on average. As background info, the computer is in use pretty well all day everyday, mainly for work. I work freelance at home as an electronic designer. Being technical, I understand computers to a fair degree, from both hardware and software PoV, though I don't design things that work directly in conjunction with computers. I'm mainly concerned with embedded systems, both hardware and low-level software, and I don't write programs for running on computers (programming skill is confined to assembly language and embedded C).As a typical example, I suddenly find I can't bring the taskbar into view by moving the mouse cursor to the bottom of the screen, in order to switch from a Word document I've been working on to find another document in Windows Explorer. So I use Alt-tab to switch to Explorer. But if I now open a new document (eg a pdf), I then have to use Alt-tab to return to the Word document. However usually that isn't all that goes wrong, as I now find that clicking on something in the word document toolbar (eg to go from 'Home' tab in MS Word to the 'Insert' tab) doesn't work. All that happens is that Word goes out of keyboard 'focus' - the blue background to the toolbar goes grey, and I can't type anything. I then have to use Alt-tab to re-select MS Word (cycling through all the open windows) to bring MS Word back into focus. Since I can't use the mouse for selecting, I have to press Alt, then tab or arrow key to step through all the toolbar buttons and options till the one I want is selected, then press Enter on the keyboard. In other words, I'm reduced to keyboard-only mode.
Sometimes I can get out of this situation by closing one or more windows I don't currently need (by Alt-tabbing to bring up a window, then pressing Alt-F4 to close it). In extreme cases this won't cure the problem, and it remains in keyboard-only mode even with only one application open. The only thing I can do then is to close everything, switch off and reboot - even Restart is not enough, I actually have to switch off and on again.Has anyone else observed this behaviour with W7 or is it just my computer? I don't think it's a problem with the mouse itself: the cursor always moves around the screen normally, and I do get a response by clicking on a button. It's just that the response is wrong, it simply takes the whole application window out of focus so clicking no longer does anything in that window.
I received my sony vaio 15.5 eb series i3-370m laptop today. However, the left click on touchpad right clicks. Support told me its a hardware issue that cannot be fixed and that they can send someone over. Also, if i want to close the firefox window... pressing the left or right click works which is a problem with this touchpad. The scrolling of the touchpad however has no problem though. Would you guys suggest i sent this laptop back instead? If they send someone to come and repair it, they would have to open the laptop and i don't think that is good for the long run of Should i just request a new one instead?I would assume i don't have to pay the extra $50 now correct? The battery life i notice is around 2 hours just web browsing. I am thinking if i should just return it and get a sager 5135 because i heard battery life is 3 hours and it offers 1080P. But i know that laptop does not look as good as a sony one. I will mainly play online poker with applications on it and browse and listen to music.I just talked to support and did trouble shooting and installed a driver. What is funny now is that the left and right click buttons don't even work anymore. However, the left click and button button works if i click on those items on my taskbar such as internet explorer and windows explorer. But if i click it a 2nd time, a new explorer will show up. I cannot click on anything besides those 3 items on my taskbar with the left/right click now.Someone said this is a setting issue but i did everything with settings and it doesn't work. Sony support though say this is a a hardware issue and because when i plug an external mouse and it works perfectly fine, its the hardware and i would need to have a sony technician come over.Would you say my buttons work fine based on what is happening? I have checked the settings for it and everything is fine. This is so frustrating.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been playing some games and every time I press the mute, decrease and increase volumes always disconnects me from the games or bring me out of the game like Alt + F4. It use to be fine, but I think the reason is, because of the volume display bar pops up. Is there a way to remove it or you can solve my problem without removing it?
[SOLVED] I went to Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings and set it to the second notch.
I've searched everywhere, including (when you click F1) in windows 7. I need a keyboard shortcut for increasing and decreasing volume, and I don't mean when playing a video or something, I mean the "general" one. (Not in Media Player)
