The problem came out of nowhere, I noticed my computer didn't animate when minimizing, opening, or closing a window. The "animate windows when minimizing and maximizing" option is enabled. When I restart my computer, it will still show that it is enabled when I bring up that window but it won't work unless I re-apply it. This has nothing to do with aero and my video card driver is up to date. I also noticed this after I recently installed new rams but I don't see how it could affect it.
I just recently upgraded Windows 7 Ultimate from Vista Home premium. When I "upgraded" though I chose to completly reinstall my OS.Anyways I used to have transparency, but when I try to get that same effect it says "The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver."and then when I try to troubleshoot it says "Video card driver doesn't support Aero effects" . I've tried the "Fix it" options, but that doesnt work. I just don't see how transperancy would work on vista but not with windows 7... do I seriously have to purchase a new video card?
I'm trying to uninstall/reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2005-2008-2010 but a window pops up saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." "Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'vcredist' in the box below." I went to my C:UsersLarAppDataLocalTempIXP001.TMP but it didn't work all it says is "The file 'C:UsersLarAppDataLocalTempIXP001.TMP' is not a valid installation package for the product Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. Try to find the installation package 'vcredist.msi' in a folder from which you can install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable." Mind you it does this for any version I try to uninstall So I rebooted and tried again but the Temp folder wasn't there which was to be expected but now I can't find any vcredist.msi on my computer and it does the same thing in safe mode
Just like the title says, whenever I click save it just takes me back a screen.I can change the password, and I can leave and create the homegroup, but I still cannot change any settings including advanced settings. This is on a friends laptop, it is windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.
Upgraded W-XP64 to W7HP64 in August. Machine was set up with 3 hard drives in Nvidia RAID as a STRIPE. Installed a game that actually installed ok but gave BSOD. Went into safe mode and removed the game and system is working fine. I ran MSE and MBAM with nothing but tracking cookies found. Then I created a restore point but noticed that there were no others. So I rebooted and created another one. System still saying there are no restore points. So I ran CMD as admin and ran VSSADMIN LIST SHADOWS which came back "no items found that safisty the query". I can create restore points but they are not being saved by the system. I increased the size of the 30 to 65GB, rebooted and created another restore point, which also did not get saved. I've read about dual boot problems with XP, but that is not the case as I UPGRADED to Windows 7 OVER XP...over the 3 drives. Does RAID prevent the system from saving restore points? If that's the case why is it letting me create them in the first place?
my hearts game doesn't save at all. i have even checked everything in the options.always continue saved gamecheckedalways save game on exit----checkednow what could be the problem with it?EDIT just checked now that it happens with minessweeper as well. so it means with all games. now what is fishy?
File|Open and File|Save As does not work at all for any application. Basically nothing happens, the dialog never opens an in my mail is not possible to upload files.. nothing, the common dialog to handle files never opens. I tried to type sfc/scannow in DOS mode (cmd). But didnt work because it said that I must be the administrator but the problem is that I am the administrator (I am the only user and register as admin).
I'm in the midst of implementing Windows 7 Professional in a high school. Currently I'm running a Win2k3 R2 active directory where each machine has its own login. I created my cloned image and replicated it to several student computers to test. For some reason on only 1 of the machines it won't save any domain user's profile information to the hard drive in the user folder.

When I've had my laptop on battery power where the screen is dimmed to conserve battery after being shut off and last running on battery when I plug it in and start up the screen is still dimmed and not all the way up like it should be. My settings are dimmed on battery and bright plugged in.
An issue with Outlook 2007 in combination with my Microsoft Exchange e-mail account was that it couldn't remember the password and I had to enter it every time I started Outlook. This was solved by adding a credential through 'control user passwords2', a workaround which can be found on several sites.
However, this doesn't seem to work anymore using Outlook 2010 with Windows 7. Or at least it seems to work different, but I can't get it to work. Outlook itself creates a generic credential in the form of MS.Outlook: USERNAME>@<EXCHANGESERVER>:PUT, but on another website I found the form MS.Outlook:<E-MAILADDRESS>@<EXCHANGESERVER>:PUT It also creates two Windows credentials, one with the username also as server and one with the correct exchange server, username and password. What should I add to make Outlook remember my password?
I also tried some other workarounds for previous versions of Outlook, but they all didn't work. I tried these: Stop Outlook/Outlook Express Asking For Your Password Every Time | Windows Vista | Windows Tools, Help & Guides Outlook 2007 won't save passwords in Vista...save password..
I have an iPhone 4 which has internet tethering. I can either connect this via the USB cable or wirelessly via my intel 6300N wifi card.
When I connect to my laptop via USB cable, the 'Set Network Location' box comes up, which I select Home Network. It is simply named 'Network', but I then go in and change 'Network' to 'iPhone'. This then shows up in the Network and Sharing Centre as iPhone on a Home Network. This works perfectly, is super fast and when I'm finished, I disconnect the USB and shut down.
When I next turn on my laptop and connect my iPhone internet tether via USB cable, I am once again asked to ''Select a location for the 'Network' network''. Windows 7 netwkr and Sharing centre isn't recognising the same iPhone is connected and asks me to set up a home network again.
I've gone into 'Merge or delete network locations' and the original 'iPhone home network' is set up (not in use) as well as the new 'Network' location that it's asking me to set up. If I merge the second 'Network' and original 'iPhone network', this removes the second network and I'm left with the 'iPhone Home network (in use).
If I disconnect the iPhone and reconnect, it asks me each time to select a network location for the 'network' network. If I don't merge them, I end up with Network 2, Network 3, Network 4 etc all the while still having the original iPhone network not in use as well as any other not merged or deleted.
Why won't it recognise the same iPhone as being connected and selecting the iphone home network that I set up and why does it keep asking me to create a new one whenever I connect?
This never happened before, with my laptop previously recognising the iPhone home network I originally created ages ago. There has been no significant updates or changes that I'm aware of, except that I updated my iPhone software, bt this has been done in the past numerous times with previous iPhone updates and hasn't happened before.
I have a Virgin wireless broadband usb modem, which the system recognises each time I connect it. It's only the iPhone connection that's not saving. The iPhone network is 'unmanaged' but so is the Virgin Broadband USB.
I have a Pioneer Dreambook P170HMx running Windows 7pro x64. If there's any other details you need, I'm happy to supply them. All I want is my system to save the network configuration and recognise when I connect the iPhone tethering that it's an already created iPhone Home Network.
I was recently upgraded to Windows 7 and Office 2010. Under my old version of Windows XP & Office XP/07, when I received an emailed spreadsheet & made adjustments to it, I was able to save it directly over the old emailed file. Now when I make any changes I am asked to save a copy of the file & to save it elsewhere on my computer & cannot save it directly over the original emailed spreadsheet. how to get this old feature back? I'm sure it's just a matter of ticking some option off.
When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again. The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine. usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.
I only have 2GB ram at the moment, but a 64bit capable processor. I'm considering installing Windows 7 64bit just for After Effects CS5. Would this be stupid? Would I notice any performance drops,
I changed via the dialog the TEXT SIZE via the screen resolution in the control panel to CUSTOM SIZE.With one of the newer "Cinema" or Very Wide screen (1680 X 900) displays after I'd increased the text size to over 160 % I didn't get the possibility to SAVE any documents any more via the SAVE AS button. The SAVE dialog would appear but the SAVE button was missing. The effect was noticed in Office 2007 (all programs) Notepad etc etc.Seems to be a Windows fault as this should not be allowed to happen.on more traditional "Squarer" type monitors -- no problem.
Is there any way to set the default save location folder for downloads in IE8 to the last folder that the same file type was saved in? It makes no sense to default to a single folder and have to browse through to the desired folder for every single download, so I assume there has to be an option somewhere.
At some point during my usage, the effects for minimizing, closing, opening, and maximizing get turned off by Windows. I'll be enjoying the effects until at some point... closing and opening windows become instant (like in Windows XP or older), same with minimize/maximize. I never turn these off, but windows for some reason does. What gets me is, I go all the way into system control panel and adjust those settings... they are STILL checked! I uncheck/recheck them and press apply and I get my effects back. It doesn't last forever, though... the effects eventually stop working again and I have to once again go all the way into that panel to force them to work again.
I am trying to find the audio effects settings in Win7 but haven't been able to do so.In WinXP, the audio effects settings is under the following:Right-click Sound icon in taskbar > Adjust Audio Properties > Audio tab > Sound playback > Advanced > Effects tab. Therefore I would like to know whether 1) this setting exists in Win7 and if it does, 2) where can i find the equivalent settings in Win7
i had driver corruption (original thread HERE)The current problem is that I'm unable to use the equalizer on my audio card.I am forced to "Disable all sound effects" in order to get any sound (including the driver's test sound) to play. The sound plays fine, but this disables my equalizer. When i first built my PC everything was fine. but now, when i uninstall drivers, reboot, and reinstall drivers from the MOBO CD it is either detecting the wrong one or there is some other issue i'm unaware of. [code] i am very certain that the ATI HD Audio device used to say "RealTek Digitial Audio" or something like that. uninstalling and reinstalling drivers - or updating to the latest Vid/Aud drivers has not helped.(for those people that intend to be helpful but don't know there are instances where the video driver is actually responsible for the audio device, rather than the audio driver)

[code] When I overclock my CPU the aero effects turns off about a minute later. I use AMD Overdrive software for overclocking and the tempratures are 10 degrees celsius on IDLE and 25-30 on load (playing high-res games or rendering videos) Does anyone know why the aero effects turn off, and is there a way to fix this?
I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 7 on it, about a month and a half ago. Ever since the first week a problem happens periodically, at least once a week if not more. The screen will turn black, usually flickering so I can see the mouse for a second, then it flickers black, then I see the mouse, etc. Usually the only way I can fix it is by closing the laptop and waiting, then it will go into sleep mode.I get it started back up, and all the sudden I can no longer see my desktop, or the icons in my taskbar.I can get these back by changing and saving one property on each, then everything seems to be fine. This problem is not associated with a screen saver, it happens at seemingly random times. Sometimes when I'm dealing with a new program, but sometimes when I'm simply browsing the internet. It could be connected to google chrome I guess.
There's a certain program that I use that needs me to run Windows in Test Mode to work correctly (to run unsigned drivers, I think). I know the program is legit because I've used it before and I know it won't harm my PC. But is there any downside to being permanently in Test Mode? Like, problems installng other programs or random system crashing? Or is it ok to just leave Test Mode enabled all the time?My system.Lenovo Y560d Intel Core i7.Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
Just wondering if its possible to have the border effect on each side of the screen with dual monitors. Mine are only on the far right and far left, no middle as it seems logical if you have 2 monitors you might want to have 50% coved with one window and have the 2nd 50% with another window, then you could full screen a 3rd window or just have 2 more halves. but the current way it works is 2 halves then a big empty space in the middle or 2 full screens.
I love the easy and quick way to organize/resize the windows but its very inconvenient to do this manually for half of the screen.
I'm experiencing some problems with a second video card under windows 7 (64bit). I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (PCI express) with 2 displays for a longer time. I now added a second card: PCI NVIDIA Geforce 6200 with a third display. It's no problem to install the second card as it uses the same drivers as the first one. Im also able to activate the 3rd display and usw it, but im experiencing some sideffects. Sometimes (quite often) the system freezes for about 20 seconds.
