Vista Home To Windows 7 Professional Booting
Sep 26, 2010
PC boots up to Windows Boot Manager, I choose Windows 7, get the Windows Error Recovery screen, try all of the possible options fom Safe Mode to "open with command prompt". Result each time is the Windows coloured flag coming together then "Setup is starting services". PC then reboots and I'm back at the start again and around we go.I'd be happy if I could somehow get to the Windows.

I posted here earlier (a couple weeks ago) about a painless installation of Windows 7 on a resized C Drive, which I partitioned into into a C Drive (Vista) and W Drive (Win 7).
All was fine until yesterday - I had been able to login into and out of both operating systems without drama - when out of the blue, for no apparent reason, whenever I try and log onto the Vista operating system, it allows me to logon as Rod with my correct password, but after the logon screen I get the "Preparing your Desktop" and and am presented with a Desktop and icons - but not for me! I get a bubble pop up out of the System Tray that says "Windows had trouble loading your Profile and has loaded up a temporary profile. Contact your administrator".
That would be me! I for the life of me don't know what happened. I have created no new users, nor amended any existing ones. Though, when using Windows 7 earlier in the day, I had to give access rights and permissions to All authenticated Users in order to access and use files on a separate (D) Drive.
Will this have screwed up my User Profile and login to Vista? How?

I own a acer aspire laptop 5100 series which came with Vista pre installed on it.My ex boyfired decided to install Windows 7 Professional on my laptop earlier this year and now I can't seem to get skype working properly like it use to before Win 7. Nobody can hear me and I've configured the the microphone and speakers to how they should be set in order for skype to work but no one can hear although I can hear every one just fine. I have the latest version on skype installed. I was wondering if the issue is because I have windows 7 on here instead of what it originally came with?

I purchased Windows 7 Professional for my old computer. Shortly after the install my old computer failed. I've since purchased a new computer with Windows 7 Home. My question is: can I somehow upgrade the Home version to the Professional version using the Professional Install disc? The old computer was 32 bit and the new computer is 64 bit if that makes any difference.

I bought Windows 7 Professional and installed it on my computer. Recently, that computer died unexpectedly and I bought a new one that came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. Since getting a new computer was unexpected, there were things I needed to get installed right away, so I just started installing it on the version of the OS that was already installed on the new PC. Now that I have a moment to go back and upgrade it to 7 Pro to take advantage of the features I want/need, this is appearing to not be an option, or at least not an easy one. The only options I'm seeing are to do a full reinstall or to do a Windows Anytime Upgrade which requires a separate license key. I have enough software installed now I really don't want to have to reinstall the entire machine again. Plus there were some applications that came for "free" on the new PC that I'd like to keep, but reinstalling would mean that keeping those apps also was not an option. And it seems stupid that I'd have to buy an upgrade when key when I have a full version of what I want to go to. Is my full version DVD of 7 Pro a paper weight now?

I just did a clean install of Win 7 Home and everything went smoothly but I have 32 gigs installed and it shows 32 but says only 16 are available. I am told this is directly because of a limitation in Win 7 home. so I have two questions:
1) is their anyway to modify Win 7 home so I can access all 32 gigs? 2) if I use an anytime upgrade to Win 7 pro will there be any issues? I have read that upgrades sometimes have unpredictable results, will that be likely even though I have a clean install? so far the only software loaded is a handful of drivers for the hardware.

I purchased a new Hard Drive, and I installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it.I recently purchased an upgrade that upgraded Windows 7 Home Premium into Windows 7 Professional.I still have Windows Vista on my other Laptop, and I was wondering if I could re-use Windows 7 Home Premium to upgrade my vista into Windows 7.
In other words, I am going to maintain Windows 7 Professional on Laptop One(which I upgraded after I installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it) while being able to update Laptop Two from Windows Vista into the Windows 7 Home Premium that I upgraded into Windows 7 Professional.

I currently have windows 7 home premium 64 bit edition on my desktop. I get a copy of windows 7 professional 64 bit disc with legal key from my university for a student special. How can I upgrade? I was redirected to windows anytime upgrade during the installation. But my windows 7 professional x64 product key was not accepted there. I already have lots applications installed so I don't want to do a clean install.

As an alternative to re-installing all my programmes etc. I have recently considered installing Windows 7.0 on one of my three harddrives. I understand that this is perfectly feasible, however, my main aim is to be able to address more ram, hence W 7.0 64 bit. Would Vista 32 still run happily with 8GB or more of memory in the mobo? The hd is 500 Gig.

If you have installed a preview version of Windows 7 Ultimate (e.g. beta, release candidate build 7100 or RTM build 7600) and want to install a cheaper version of Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional the installation is normally refused.
But with change of a registry key whilst installation you can fake a minor version - so you can install Home Premium or Professional over existing Windows 7 Ultimate.

The institution has an arrangement with MS to download one copy of Windows Professional to each student. The school IT folks tell me I have to go into the boot menu (f2) and boot from the DVD containing the school's licensed Windows Professional copy. There is no "product key" that I can find, unless it is somewhere on the DVD embedded in another file.

I have a laptop that has Vista installed on it. I have an upgrade disc for Windows 7 and I am thinking about performing a "clean installation" over the Vista OS - which I know is allowed, on the following link;click here Now, I would like to create another partition (on the same hard drive) and install Vista (using the same disc that it came with the laptop) onto that blank hard drive partition

I currently have a standard computer setup with a windows 7 operating system installed. What I want to do is dual boot with Windows 7 as my primary os but using an esata cable connect the hard drive from my laptop to the computer and have this as a secondary boot option. The laptop hard drive has a full install of vista on it. Is this possible, every time I think about doing it I worry about the drivers on the laptop hdd and how those will react to my main computers hardware as obviously the laptop hardrive is setup to look at the laptop hardware.

I have installed Professional but the key I purchased is a dud. It was a MAC key but when I types it in it turns out it has already been used. I had no luck getting a valid one from the seller. It turns out I only really need Home Premium. If I buy a Home Premium one and authorize with that will it work. The reason I don't want to reinstall is I am using Bootcamp on a Mac Pro and I have to mess around a lot to get it working.

I have a little while ago build up my pc,
and bought a new system development package of win. vista home premium 64 bit.
with in my foresight i had the new 7 totally for free.
Then i got my win 7 home premium, formatted my system and installed the upgrade just fine as a clean installation.
But in home premium are some features you have in the ultimate or professional version disabled, and some of these features i just want to use.
now i do the education on school for IT, and my school has given me a msdnaa account.
Now on that msndnaa account where i can download windows 7 professional.
My question is:
Now i want to install the home premium on my laptop, and the on my pc
can i install the home premium which is of course already activated on my pc, can i install it on my laptop. i don't need a explanation of how i install a os, cause i already know such things.

I received a laptop from my work which is currently running Windows 7 enterprise. Unfortunately, our administrator is a bit on the overzealous side about what to-and what not to block, and the whole "I will watch you through the built in webcam" shenanigans, I'd like to dual-boot the enterprise OS with my own Windows 7 home premium. Is this possible?
