Does anybody know where I can set the printer redirection in Windows 7 Virtual PC? I cannot find it and the Virtual XP Mode does not have the printers that are installed local on Windows 7.
I see everywhere on the internet that one of the features is printer redirection, but I can't find where to set it.
I upgraded to Windows 7, but I have a few software I installed on Virtual PC 2007 before. I use XP mode but can't find a way to use the virtual HD created with Virtual PC 2007. Is there a way to convert the virtual HD so that XP mode can recognize?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a Canon Printer which have no Vista support from official site which I wish to use it in Windows 7. I know it's an old AIO printer but sometimes the scanner comes in handy, but problem is I only get hold of XP driver for it. I tried installed the Virtual XP mode beta and I try to setup my printer, but my driver setup won't go through, it said it can't detect my printer.
So just want to ask is it actually possible to install XP-only device in Virtual XP mode so I can use the device in Windows 7 environment ? I didn't use much of Virtual PC so I am not quite sure.

Except I had to disable Integration features in order for it to allow my Secure VPN to connect. Now my 4th and 5th mouse buttons do not work. Is there a way to make them work w/o enabling my integrated features OR is there a way to make my secure VPN work without having to disable integrated features?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've taken on a migration project for an SMB. They have an ancient application that they use and cannot find a replacement for.
The problem is that the application writes to the root of C: when creating mail merge documents, while this wasn't an issue on XP with the correct permissions its a problem with 7 due to UAC not letting standard users write to that location.
The software vendors have come back with the standard answer "turn UAC off" ... nope .. not prepared to do that.
I've managed to get a copy of the application so I could do some experimenting with Virtual XP mode. While this allows the application to run and create the mail merges correctly it seems to require the creation and setup of a VM every time a new users logs on.
Is there anyway to share a single VM between multiple users or could it be done by assigning published applications to all users on the host?
I used until now a virtual printer who makes PDF files and send them direct to an editor. It's called BoD_easyprint_de.It always worked on XP and now I was told that it works on Windows 7 64x. Just on my Windows 7 64x Laptop doesn't work. I can download the program and start installing it. Right at the end the installation stops, shows a problem by installing the driver and error 216 and closes the installation.

Great, in Explorer you can see the mapped drive.I need to set up an ODBC connection to a database on that drive. I have an OEM Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS.My problem is that I only a dial-up internet connection, the XP mode file alone is > 500Mb in size. I calculated I would have to tie up the phone line for over a day and I only have one line.Is there a way to get the files on my work computer, which has a T1 line. However it is running Vista not Windows 7.I live 40 miles from my home computer to my work computer. and is a real pain to go all this distance. Microsoft is paranoid as usual. They forget that not everyone has a fast internet connection at home, or can even get one, especially in the country.I can not fathom that one can not get a CD/DVD that can check if your OS is a real one and not a fake ,along with a copy on the needed files. I have validated my computer at home.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAt my work we are in the process of upgrading our network from server 2003 and xp on the clients to server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 on the clients. We have some productivity software that will not run on windows 7 64 bit so we have installed the XP mode virtual machine in order to run that software. The software installs fine and runs fine. The problem we are having is some of the software is used to program PLC's and so we need to be able to talk with these devices over the network at their IP addresses. I have configured the "virtual" ethernet adapter and windows 7 ethernet adapter the same. From the cmd prompt in win 7 i can obviously ping the devices and communicate with anything on the network however when I am running the XP mode I cannot access anything on the network. The virtual mode isnt recognizing any of the physical computers resources. Is there a way to make it so when running XP mode and the programs in XP mode the computer can communicate with other devices over the network?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running Active Directory on Server 2008 and redirecting My Documents, Favorites, and Desktop folders to the server. When the PCs go a screen saver and the user needs to login they loose connection to their Desktop icons. Their My Documents, Favorites and all mapped drives all work fine, they only loose Desktop icons. The only way to restore connection is to restart the PC. I have disabled the setting on the network card to allow Windows to put it to sleep, and it seemed to help for about a week. The strange part about this issue is, it doesn't affect all users only about 6.

Issue: Bluescreen when accessing redirected "my documents" folder.
Involved machines:
Windows 2008 server environment. The fileserver runs on a perc 5/i in RAID 5. The disc is configured as GPT as it is larger then 2 TB. Folder redirection is configured by a GPO towards the fileserver. Domain is running on windows 2008 functional level.
Test PC running Windows 7.
Cause & solution:
Well, basicly I could reproduce the bluescreen occuring each time I worked with files. I configured the initial rights on the fileserver according to this guide: How To Configure Folder Redirection (I keep forgetting what rights are needed "DUH")
What did happen to cause this issue? Well, I wanted to place data in the redirected folders to play around with. As I was currently working on the FS at that time I wanted to do it directly. Access was denied on the "my documents" of the test folder. So I took ownership... Apperantly the folders created by "folder redirection" differ quite a bit from 2003. I lost all rights on the folder. No biggie I figured, I just add the user to the ACL with full rights.
This is the moment I started to get the bluescreens on the Windows 7 test machine. And after a while it dawned upon me that the change of rights must have been the cause of it!
I disabled redirection of the my docs in the GPO, made sure the client machine was logged off, renamed the folder by adding .old, enabled the redirection again and logged in on the client machine.
I understand that taking ownership of the folder f*cked up the rights & windows needs these rights to work properly. It just seems that getting a bluescreen is a bit over the top.
I am using Windows 7 - Home Premium 64bit. There is only one user on this machine which is Administrator and this computer is not connected with any networks. I am trying to move all of User's folders to D: drive. I have successfully moved, My Pictures, My Documents, My Videos, Contacts and other folders but when I try to move "Desktop" folder, it gives me an error message at the end of the operation (after coping all the data to the new location) that "Folder Redirection Failed", "Operation was cancelled by the user". I have tried to change the location several times for this Desktop folder but every time I do it, I get this error message.
Now situation is... Data from my Desktop is present in its default location but also copied to D:UsersMyNameDesktop folder. Means, exactly the same data is placed on two different locations but default Desktop location is still at C: drive. Why I am unable to change my Desktop location? I am trying to change the location by right clicking on Desktop folder in User's folder, then Properties and then Location tab. It's exactly the same way by which I moved all of my other User's folders successfully.
I'm running Win 7 64 bit in a Windows 2003 R2 domain.In the last 2 weeks I've gotten several blue screens and am not sure how to correct the problems.I've run sfc /scannow and no problems were found.I'm also seeing Service Control Manager errors in the Events Viewer and possible solutions from other posts on the Internet have not worked.Folder redirection of the My Documents folder is setup in Group Policy yet there are errors that show folders like My Videos can not be created located on the file storage server and my account has full permissions.Lastly, I am experiencing errors with Outlook 2010.I've run the MiniToolBox utility and have attached the results.txt file so you can see these errors.

I opened the setup on the video card cd but it says "the graphics adapter installed in this system is not compatible with the current set of drivers" and it won't install the drivers. The opening screen of the setup cd says "installed graphics adapter: not found".

The problemis because its installed on the XP virtual machine the printer does not appear in the Win 7 printers list. View 0 Replies View RelatedMy printer is attached via USB. I can get my printer installed in both Windows 7 and XP mode. In XP mode it shows as shared in USB devices. However, it is online in Windows 7 and can be used, but offline in XP mode. If I click Attach it will work in XP mode, but then shows as offline in Windows 7 and can't be used. Integration features the Printers box is check, as well as enable at startup.
Is it possible to use the printer on both machines without havind to attach and unattach it?
