I'm trying to find the cheapest, easiest way to overclock my crappy little HP pavilion. can you load a system builders OS on to a dell, HP, compaq?
I'll probably need to replace the MOBO too. I heard if you replace the mobo, you need to get a system builders version of an OS, not the HP version of windows they give you.
Ideas?
I want to buy an OEm version of Windows 7 from newegg and install on my Laptop which has Vista on it now and then I want to reslick my desktop that has Windows 7 version on it now. Do I have to buy 2 win 7 copies or can I get away with buying just the OEM?

He is running XP Pro on his old harddrive but can't find his disc to install it on the new harddrive. He wants to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, and I know that you can get the system builders/oem versions that don't come with as hefty as a price tag which is what I got when I built my computer and everythings running great.What I wanted to know is what is the difference really between the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium for System Builders - OEM on persay, newegg and getting Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium which is about twice the price? I know it doesn't go through the windows tutorial and all that, but I was also wondering if he was having issues with windows could he call microsoft or would he be resposible for any issues with windows(not relating to simple stuff like trouble with installation)? Also, since its not entirely a new build, he still has his old motherboard in his computer, could he use the system builders/oem version without any issues? I don't know if microsoft would have anything to say, I don't want to cause him any hassel or trouble to save a few bucks. And also lets say his motherboard bites the dust in 6 months, would he have any issues using the oem windows 7 if he had to replace that and possibly had to reinstall it on the original hard drive he installed it?

View 2 Replies View Relateda few years back i bought a pc from currys which came with windows vista 32 bit and a windows 7 32 bit disk.Since then however i have totally updated my system with a gaming system using the same hard drive and windows 32 bit.I really want to get a few more gigs of RAM (only have 4 at the moment) and was wondering if an OEM windows 64 bit disk will allow me to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 it or would i have to buy the full windows 7 disk which costs about £60 more.

Gigabyte has been telling everyone that in order to use these components together, one must update the BIOS with your old processor (for me, a Phenom II x4) for the new processor to work. I don't understand how you update the BIOS for one processor to work with another.

I don't play many games but I do convert HD videos a lot and these programs are a pig on ram. I have 8GB now and have ordered 2 4GB sticks and was wondering if I should stay with 2 4GB sticks and 2 2GB sticks(total12GB) or should I upgrade to 16GB.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo, I have a i7 2600K system with a solid state disk as the boot drive, and an older (c2008) Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB drive as the data drive for programs (that I deem as not worthy of the quick load times). The hard drive has given me some errors over time, and I bought a hard disk to replace it (a Hitachi 1TB). The issue I'm having is that the fact that Windows 7 puts a small (100MB) partition on the F3, and for some reason, even though I'm running Acronis 2012, it doesn't seem to be able to clone the F3 over to the Hitachi. I've also tried Drive XML, and for my 2 hour wait, I only managed to acquire a boot error. Thankfully, I've not done anything rash to destroy the data on the F3, but given the fact that I've seen corrupted files in Steam from that drive, I'm not will to trust it long term with my data. I really need to get the data onto that Hitachi, though... Anyone have any advice for upgrading the HDD in a SSD/HDD system? I don't really feel like it should be so hard, especially if I've bought Acronis True Image, but maybe they haven't designed their product to handle this scenario quite yet?

Now, backing up all my qaqa on 4.7 GB dvd discs would be a hassle, and that would be what I'm looking at because there is only one hard drive. My question: What are the downsides to just installing Windows 7 64 bit over Windows XP 64 bit, rather than backup files -> reformat -> clean install?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new computer, built it from the ground up for gaming. My school is part of MSDNAA fun time so I was able to get a free version of Windows 7 64bit service pack 1. I downloaded the files and it was an .iso file.
The first try, I ended up burning the .iso file its self to a disk with out mounting it then downloading the files onto the disk that way. So that didn't work.
The next thing I tried was downloading the actual files needed to install the OS onto a flash drive. The reason that didn't work was because I didn't format the flash drive correctly before I downloaded the files onto it. I then tried to format the flash drive but now I can't even open it or do anything else with it.
I ended up asking a friend who had a boot disk for Windows 7. The only problem is that he didn't know if it was 32 bit or 64. This disk actually worked... the only problem is that it's 32 bit.
I ended up getting another disk and downloaded the, what I believe, right files onto it. Popped it into my new computer to hopefully install the 64 bit version of the OS and over right the 32 bit version, or have it reformat my hard drive then install the OS. So far it isn't working.
Is there any advice I could get from you guys. I was thinking about wiping my hard drive and starting from scratch, hoping that the 64 bit disk I burned would work. So far, I haven't been able to actually wipe it, so I'm at a bit of a cross roads.
I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium on a basic HD. I recently purchased a new SSD and a full installation of Windows Ultimate.
I would like to install Windows Ultimate to the SSD and use my old HD as a secondary storage device. Most importantly, I do not want to lose any of my documents or personal files currently stored on the old HD.
I'm looking for advice or recommendations on the best approach here. Should I do a full Win7 Ultimate install to the SSD and leave Win7 Home Premium on the secondary drive? Or, is there a better way to migrate files from the secondary drive to the new SSD and then format the old HD?
My machine (a very powerful 64bit one) wouldnt let me update from XP Professional to Windows 7 64 bit, but would allow me to update (clean install) to 32 bit. Now 32 is in can I upgrade to 64?

I have been perfectly happy and content with Windows XP Home Edition SP3 and have been flirting with the idea of upgrading to Windows 7What brought me to this was I want to install and play Battlefield 3 which only runs on Windows 7. I have a nice system even by today's standards, so I ran the Microsoft's upgrade to Windows 7 app checker. It told me that most programs would be fine but there are some like K-lite's Codec Pack and such that it is unclear if there is compatability. Now I am not going to backup data, clean install Windows 7, and reinstall all programs and apps just to play one game.

I dont know if i am able to though, because the infomation on the box and in the manuel doesnt tell me how much ram the motherboard can support. It is an am2 socket board but no where does it say the amount of ram it supports.

Ok so i bought a new CPU off of amazon the other day it was a Athlon II X4 630 and I got it in the mail and installed it today. Well I decided to try and put my other stick of ram(2x4gb) in to see if it would detect as dual channel with this CPU and to my surprise it did. I tried booting into windows and it just kept restarting. One time it gave me a blue screen saying Machine Check Exception. After that one it would not give me any other blue screens just kept restarting as soon as it hit the login screen for Windows 7. Then I took the other stick back out and it logged in for a few sec and started to load windows and such then it restarted with a bluescreen giving me this error code 0x000000124.

I am trying to upgrade from vista ultimate to 7 ultimate, I don't want to format, the only issue I am having upon upgrading is that there is not enough disc space on my drive to continue the upgrade.

Games and media will remain on my existing 500GB hard drive. The hard drive currently holds my 32-bit installation of Windows 7. I want to install 64-bit Windows 7 on my new SSD and keep the data on my HDD.
Should I unplug my HDD when I install 64-bit Windows 7? If I plug in the HDD after installation will there be a conflict as to which OS should boot? I don't want to dual-boot or go back to x86, so I don't care about the windows installation on the HDD, just the data.
Should I keep my HDD plugged in with the new SSD and then install Windows 7 x64 to the SSD? Will that keep all of my HDD data intact?
Is it possible to mount Windows 7 via PowerISO and upgrade like that? Or is burning it to a DVD the only way to do it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAlready installed Windows 7 Professional 32 bit via valid MSDN account. I now want to go to 64 bit as 32 bit version cannot address all of installed 6gb RAM.
My question is did my original MSDN download include both 32 bit and 64 bit versions and therefore I can 'reinstall' from that iso or do I have to download specific 64 bit version and use the same key ?
