I tried updating the latest BIOS for Asus P8Z77-VLK under Bios EZ flash Utility, the CAp file is saved in a USB flash, after executint the CAP file, the computer restart and sound beeping from the computer inner speaker, screen blank, is it possible to recover it?Os = win7 64.
we have a domain network and all pcs are connected through Forefront TMG. i was able to download mail through outlook and everything worked ok. but now i get following error in my tmg "Failed to resolve server name" and outlook is not working. i am using win 7 and forefront tmg version is 7.
When I built this computer back in the dark ages of 2007, I set it up to dual-boot Vista and XP. Every time I powered on, I'd get a prompt to boot into Vista or "older version of Windows," meaning XP. I'd pick one and go on my merry way. In 2011, I formatted the Vista drive, installed Windows 7, and deleted the XP install since I had XP mode in 7 if I needed compatibility. No more dual-boot prompt. I had no issues until last night, when I went shopping for a new hard drive. My motherboard, a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, was running an old BIOS that has problems with drives of 1 TB or more. So in order to be sure I could use the drive I'm buying, I updated the BIOS to the latest revision, using Gigabyte's @BIOS utility to do it in-OS rather than through the boot menu.
When I rebooted, the system POSTed fine. But instead of booting Windows, it gave me the old choice between Vista or the "older version of Windows" - despite neither of those operating systems being present. If I tell the boot manager to do anything, it spits out an error since it can't find any OS files it recognizes. The BIOS itself seems to be fine - I'm writing this on the affected computer, running Ubuntu with a Live CD. I can see all the hard drives, open files, etc. I just don't know how to get the boot manager pointed at Windows 7 again.
I updated the bios to the latest version on a gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3, using @bios application in windows. I have two disks in a RAID1 All was working fine but upon boot i was getting a message about enabling ACHI. Stupidly curiousity got the better of me and I eventually I said Yes. The next time i turned off i couldn't boot to windows. I went into the bios and noticed that the SATA was set to ACHI, but the bios still saw my RAID volume set up and everything appeared Normal, so i changed this setting to RAID.
it still wouldn't boot to windows - giving some message about not having access to the drive. i tried using the windows install disk but that gives error messages about RECENV utility not working, use chkdsk. it does show a drive as a volume D: (not C: interestingly) I have tried running repair and that doesn't work. I have tried chkdsk/r and that didn't help. In fact that degraded the Raid so i had to rebuild it, and now that is running Normal.
I also can't see any of my restores when i use the install disk.
I don't want to do a reformat and start again as there is data on there that is newer than my last backup.
So the options i am considering
1. remove the disks - place one of them in an external usb case and try to extract the data to save it - not sure if this is possible? and then do a clean install or try the below.
2. can i go back to the previous bios version? is that just a case of power off everything and remove the CMOS battery? and power back on?
3. go through with a new install of win 7 but don't format the drive and see if it just corrects any bad files.
Windows 7 wont install, I've tested the RAM I've tried it on my hard drive and SSD. I have installed windows XP and it works fine I am using the PC now.... Windows will install then it restarts and goes to the starting windows screen, turns black then restarts asks how I want to start windows. I tried safe mode I have updated BIOS I feel like I have tried everything and I can't get it to work. I have spent 15+ hours trying to figure this out and I am going insane because I cant get Windows 7 to work on my new PC.
I've recently purchased a used A665-3DV6 Toshiba Satellite Laptop. It had the BIOS password problem. So I've jumped the CMOS and cleared the password. I've initiated the "out of box state" and it went through the whole process. When it was finished I shut down the computer. Then the next morning I booted the computer up and it stated "HDD Boot Failed". I tried running Factory reset again but there is only a blinking cursor on the top left hand corner of the screen.
I'm currently running a WD 500g with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and a Seagate 250g with Windows XP Home Edition. I recently changed my BIOS boot order from the WD to the Seagate to see if I could still run XP. Turns out I can. My problem is that now I can't load Windows 7 back up on the other hard disk.Bear in mind that I have no other OS' loaded on any other partitions, and these HDDs are separate. The Seagate is IDE and the WD is Sata.I can load perfectly fine if I set the Seagate to load, but I get the infamous "Bootmgr is missing, Press Ctrl Alt Delete to restart" error msg when I try to boot win7.
I'm running a custom PC with a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R mobo nVidia GeForce GTS450 Seagate 250g Windows XP Western Digital 500g Windows 7 6g RAM i7 940 processor
I have an HP Pavilion G6-1d40ca. It crashed the other day while I was using it, and when I restarted it, it went to BIOS update. It froze while updating, and died in itself (I think the battery died, it wasn't plugged in. I never knew about BIOS update, so I wasn't expecting for the battery to die during the update, so I didn't plug it in.) Second time, booted it up (it was plugged in this time), and went into BIOS update once again. All's good, was able to use the laptop for about five minutes, then it crashed once again. Now, when I boot it up, nothing comes up on the screen. No nothing. The power button is on, the wi-fi is on, the LED light is blinking non-stop, more than 6 times than what is referred to the HP website.
I tried doing the remove battery and adapter, press power button for 30 seconds, plug it in without the battery, but to no avail. I also did the whole win+B, but doesn't work either. I tried pressing f11, but nothing comes up on the screen. I don't remember where I put the recovery discs that came with the laptop. I thought I put it on the box together with recovery discs for our other computers at home, but I guess I didn't. The thing is, I don't know where to begin, since I don't have anything on the screen itself. Not even a start-up logo or something.
I have a compaq CQ60 104TU laptop, my previous harddrive crashed and i has an external 500GB hardrive lying around. So, I opened it up and took the Harddrive out and inserted into my laptop. When I am trying to load windows into it I get the errorWindows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menuThe Hard disk has no data, and i don't have a CD-Rom, have made my USB bootable manually using DISKPART (this method of installation has worked for me before)[CODE]
So today I started having this weird error message that my network mapped drive to the server downstairs was no longer functioning. The gist of it is that this setup has been functioning for months without hiccup or problem. The only thing that has changed is I recently converted my routers over to DD-WRT (v17990 for WNDR3400). I'm reasonably certain that this is not the issue since I can still punch in the server's IP into the network browser as \192.168.1.90 and it comes up (I can also ping it, and it shows up in the server browser for the game it hosts), but for whatever reason I can't use the server's actual machine name \mcs anymore as it gives me a connection timeout issue. So far this is what I've done:1.) Enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
2.) Attempted to enable Network Discovery, but for some reason on Server 2008 R2 that option doesn't stay on, so I enabled Function Discovery Provider Host, Function Discovery Resource Publication, and SSDP Discovery in the services control panel. This caused the machine to show up in the browser, but it still can't be connected to.3.)Double checked the subnets just to be sure, they are the same. The server is attached to router 1 via ethernet. The desktop is attached to router 2 via ethernet, but the two routers connected over a wireless bridge (technically repeater bridge mode according DD-WRT).I also have a few wireless devices that are connected, but they seem relatively inconsequential. I realize this isn't really a significant problem, but its really kind of annoying
My internet isn't working too well, it shows great signal strength and says its connected but won't let me access the internet. It works if I reset the router but I keep having to do this as it only works for a limited amount of time sometimes for 5 minutes sometimes for 5 seconds. I keep getting this message when I try to access the internet:Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): Unable to resolve the server's DNS address.
We have 2 x Server 2008 R2 domain controllers and 120+ Windows 7 x64 clients. We have a print server which runs Server 2008 R2.We have several other servers which also run Server 2008 R2. An issue occurs intermittently and apparently at random, whereby a client will be unable to resolve the host/computer name of the print server. When the issue occurs, we have confirmed the following: - The client has a valid IP address. The client DNS server addresses are correct. - The client can ping the IP address of the print server. - The client can resolve the IP address of the print server by using nslookup and the servers FQDN. - The client cannot resolve the IP address of the print server by using nslookup and the host/computer name of the print server. The issue can occur regardless of which domain controller the client used to log on. - When the output of ipconfig /display is printed to a text file, many of the other servers in our domain are present in the DNS cache but the print server is not. After the ipconfig /flushdns command is executed, the client can resolve the host/computer name of the print server immediately.
I've followed the Tutorial found here in order to install windows 7 on my machine. It was a used machine I purchased that was running windows XP. I then installed linux on it for a while, then wanted to upgrade to windows 7 so I used the tutorial and everything was working great. After a month of regular use/updates, I know see the following error message: "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting. Go online and resolve now". After clicking the go online link, some "validation" occurs, then I'm taken to a page asking to buy some licenses, and on the top it gives the following message: Windows validation detected and repaired an activation exploit (used to prevent built-in Windows licensing components from operating properly). You must activate Windows in order to complete the repair process and be able to use the full functionality of Windows. Not to worry, we can help you with that. How can I proceed in light of this? When I purchased the computer used the outside didn't come in good shape so I can't find the usual sticker with the windows XP license.
I've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.

Windows 7 installs million updates after format. How can I put these updates inside on my Windows 7 ISO file? Some people told that you can download manually the updates and copy them to Updates folder which is inside on ISO file. But I can not understand which updates exactly should I copy inside ISO. For example: If I put SP1 inside on ISO, should I also add the other updates which are published before SP1? I mean SP1 includes all updates before itself? I realised that after formatting-clean installation of Windows 7, first some updates are installing, after that SP1 is installing and after SP1 ome other updates are installing? So how can I find these update list or something...
I recently installed the latest version of the Super video converter and it forced installed this search bar called "Updated Search Bar". I have searched everywhere and cannot find a way to remove it. It is not listed in Windows Add or Remove programs list.
I was looking to download the new drivers for 64-bit version but the dell site is confusing me- some of the drivers they have in the list for my pc isn't for my hardware lol. Where's the best place to see which dirvers have not updated? Will they all show in device manager?
when I update a driver or go through the Windows Update, what happens to the old Driver? Can I delete/uninstall the old Drivers once I update to the current drivers?
Essentially, am I losing Hard Drive space after each update? Since as I update, I install which overlaps the older Drivers, so the size just keeps getting bigger and bigger after each update?
I've found the solution to my network problem. In my other thread: ( Frustrating Network problem... ) I had a problem with an inconsistent ability to share between my desktop and my laptop. I can always get to my shares on my desktop from my laptop, but sometimes, I would not be able to access the shares on my laptop from my desktop. I have two other computers on the network, all running Windows 7 (3 computers running Ultimate, netbook running Pro). No problems with the other machines at all. All advanced sharing settings are set like this snip.
If I change the laptop to "turn off password protected sharing" and "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers", I have no more problem. I guess the question is, why do the defaults work great on 3 machines but not my laptop? I kinda like that I have to enter user and password to access shares, but if it just won't work for my laptop, I'll forgo it.
I have been a happy XP User for years. I took the jump to 7 and I do like it but I cannot get my networking working. I have a mac laptop that I used to use to easily stream movies etc - I just have a few shared folders on my network, my xp pc would show up on my mac and I could easily browse the shared folders. When I moved to 7 this no longer worked. Fistly it asked for a password when I had no system password at all - later I worked out how to get rid of that, I could see my pc on the network but then I could not see any files etc I thought it was just the mac but i also have a WDTV media player which browses the shared folders on my network in the same way, used to work perfectly on xp, now it does all sorts of strange things.
Along with the two new Phenom processors, Advanced Micro Devices today releases an updated version of its Overdrive software. Ready to use with Microsoft® Windows® 7
I updated my mom's computer & it was doing ok until she shut down the computer while it was updating. Now it have all types of errors. How can I fix this?
I just increased the memory on my laptop from 4GB to 8GB .My system does'T Recognize the increase in memory, can you tell me why? I have ddr3 installed.
I recently got a new hard drive (Seagate Mometus XT 500GB) to replace the old one (320GB) i had for my laptop. I had created an image backup using Windows 7. I restored the image to my new hard drive using my recovery CD to the new hard drive and everything was working just fine. Windows loaded up quicker and it was faster than before. Now when i open up My Computer and go to properties of the new hard drive, the capacity comes up as 287, which is my old one. It seems Windows does not detect the new hard drive.
I am trying to update my Dell Optiplex 760 to windows7, its gone easy so far, but now its stuck on the "Set up is preparing your computer for first use" Itll load up the windows logo, then i see an arror and then this pops up and it wont move past it
