Unauthorized Samba Server On Pc?

Nov 19, 2010

how I might have ended up as part of a Samba sever on my WAN...until now I would have considered myself to be a pretty computer savvy chick but in this case I find myself becoming more and more confused because someone hasn't printed the Samba for Dummies handbook yet! So here I sit, (this being my first forum post ever fyi) needing to know how the heck I became part of this Samba server (Belarc Advisor has informed me of this by accident, I thought it could magically tell me the Creative chip i had on my rocketfish soundcard but thats an entirely different sob story that I'll just have to hash out myself Ive searched everywhere to try to find info on this but everyone seems to want to get it to work with Windows 7 and not about any security measures we can take against it. I just really need to figure out how to

a.) find out if it really is on my pc

b.) get tangible proof so I can go open a can...

c.) get it off of my pc and then go open another can...

The name of the server is FREENAS... yes I am aware thats some sort of file sharing thing what I am concerned about is the stuff I was reading about SWAT and password monitoring.

Windows 7 Connect To Old Samba 3.0 Server But Not 3.5?

Jun 9, 2010

I'm experiencing a curious issue. I've installed a second Samba server on our network and I've imported all the users from the original over, along with smb conf files, etc... All PC's are access both servers without an issue except for 1 Windows 7 64-bit OS machine. Oddly enough, the virtual pc on the Win7 box connects without an issue. To add another twist, the win7 box connects to the older Samba without issue. When trying to browse to the new server I get.... "Windows cannot access \NewServer" Check the spelling of the name..... Error Code 0x80070035 The network path was not found.

Windows 7 Home - Unable To Connect To Samba Server?

I am currently installing a Win 7 box. When I first set things up I was able to get onto my Linux server in Network -> [server name], by logging in to Win 7 using the same user name and password set up on the Linux box.A short while later I am unable to connect - I get a dialog prompting me to enter a user name and password and a message "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password". If I re-enter my user name and password the dialog comes back again.

Laptop Cannot See Linux Server Running Samba On The Same Network

Oct 19, 2011

I'm setting up home media server. At least trying to...My home network looks like this:2 laptops (ubuntu/windows7) and a home server (ubuntuServer + Samba).I've samba setup in a way to provide password-less access to share folders. I secured it by blocking all IPs but the range I use at home. (I can provide config details upon request). With ubuntu laptop, I can connect to server without any issue. I just go to network tabs and can see windows WORKGROUP share smb share both pointing to same folder. So all works good. I can also mount external drive without issue, or create network drive. Connection never times out and it stays all good.

.Problem#1 Using "map network drive" tool I cannot use hostname (server.local) I've to use IP. This means that every time server box is asigned a new IP by my dumb router I have to delete the drive and run wizard again. This is very annoying. Since IP doesn'ts tay static I cannot use WINS or map IP in hosts file. So I'm open to suggestions from your side.

Problem#2 Windows 7 disconnects network drive every 15 minutes (I think), on SAMBA I configured to stay live all the time. But windows has its own mind so it doesn't keep connection live. This results in, lateness when I try to go to my computer as OS tries to find and add drive on network. Every 2 times in 5 this procedure gives me error, host cannot be reached or something like this. So I've to delete folder and remap drive again, which surprisingly works every time! so annoying! I don't have to do this in ubuntu at all, I don't understand why windows behaves in this way.

Problem#3 Very often I cannot ping linux server from windows using hostname, like this: ping server.local - but I can at the same time ping with IP. And also from ubuntu atm I can ping server.local without any problems.

Lenovo Thinkpad T61 - Error 1802 Unauthorized Network Card Plugged In

Feb 13, 2013

I've formatted the laptop and it worked great, but I saw that there was no wireless card and opened it to insert. I put a card from Dell laptop and when I turn on laptop, I got this error:

Error 1802 Unauthorized network card is plugged in - power off and remove the miniPCI network card.

I searched the internet and I saw that for this error, solution is updating/flashing bios with "whitelist removal". I did it and turn on the laptop and it worked normally, until I unplug the charger. Whenever I unplug it from the charger, laptop shut down immediately, just like it is without the battery in it. I tried to get back the original bios, but still the same. It shut down in Windows (7 32bit), in Safe Mode and in Bios. So the laptop is running great when I plug charger, battery shows a 100%. Previously battery held around 2-3h.

No Network Access To Samba

Aug 16, 2009

I have a major problem. My Windows 7 RC Build 7100 can't suddenly connect to my linux server via Samba at all. It's been running for month doing just fine.

It's a wired connection. I can logon via SSH, browse public web folders, and ping host <-> client, both IP address and netbios name. However Samba is dead silent when trying to map a share.

I have checked the LAN configuration + Local Security Policy. Turning off the Windows firewall doesn't do a thing either.

When checking network, "net view 192.168.0.2", it returns "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found."

Googling the above message mentions a "DNS problem", but I don't have a clue what to do next.

Power Outages, Then No Samba Connectivity?

Aug 24, 2011

Night before power went out twice, there was no network issues, everything was recognized normally and I had connection with windows explorer. However now it doesn't allow any regular connectivity (by that I mean I can use a third party program jftp and it finds/opens the samba shares correctly, but that doesn't have integration in a way that I need.I have tried several registry fixes from several forums, as well as rebooting each system, and the entire network several times and there has been no resolution.Using 'net use \192.168.1.2' nets a result of 'The specified network name is no longer available' however it can still successfully ping (and SSH) to the box.Windows explorer spews out 0x80004005 error unspecified and has turned up nothing useful after a couple hours of googling. The server -does- show on the network places but when clicked it says the path is not valid.

Samba Network Share Issue

Feb 9, 2009

Was having an issue here and was hoping someone could offer some assistance.

I have a Linux Box (debian) running with Samba installed and hosting a network share.

I can access the share on a 2 Windows XP machines, a windows Vista machine, AND a modded Xbox with Xbox media center with SMB support. However, for some reason, windows 7 comes up with an error box when I try to connect and says

Quote: 10.0.0.1

More Data is available. 10.0.0.1 being my sharebox/router.

I went into gpedit.msc and then to "Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies / Security Options" and selected a variety of the choices here but none seem to do the trick.

Can't Connect To Samba Share Via Name; Ip Works

Apr 30, 2009

I'm unable to connect to a samba share on a FreeBSD (via FreeNAS) box when using the machine name.

The message it gives me is "The account is not authorized to log in from this station".

The share is in anonymous mode; there's on restrictions.

If I try to connect to the same share via it's IP, things work.

Connecting via name worked previously on this same machine from XP and after I first installed Windows 7.

I can also connect to it via a Popcorn Hour machine.

Any ideas?

Home Premium Samba Authentication Failure

May 27, 2012

I've been trying for several months to solve this problem. I have a home office network with a Debian Linux server, which I'm using as a calendar/file/print server, two Linux laptops, one XP machine and one laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium, which came preinstalled on the laptop. When I try to access the shares on the Debian machine, I keep getting authentication failures. I've tried my Windows username/password, my Linux username/password, and even created new users on both systems to try different solutions. All the computers are able to print through the Debian server. However, file sharing using the Debian machine as a Samba server does not work on the Windows 7 laptop. It works fine with all the other computers in the house. I've tried a registry hack, setting LMCompatibilityLevel to both 1 and 2, checked and rechecked my Samba configuration, even tried resetting the clock?

Samba Devices / Computers Can't Access Windows 7

Aug 17, 2012

I have a sort of file/media server setup on one of my boxes as I need a few programs running on it that can't be run on anything else (Well XP, but I'd rather have 7 running on the system).Well the problem is that none of my other computers can access it other then my main rig and another laptop which are both running Windows 7.My Macbook and Android can't connect to the Server. When I restart the Server, the Macbook and Android can connect to it for 30 minutes or so. As long as it's always running, it'll stay connected such as when I'm streaming a movie, but if it's inactive it'll cut the connection and will be unable to reconnect. If my Macbook can't connect, my Android device can't and vice versa. I don't want to have to restart the Server every time I have to reconnect so any help? I've tried changing the Local Security Policies, changed the network settings to not use 128bit encryption, but nothing is working. On the Server it just has Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Linux Samba File Sharing Issue

Mar 20, 2009

It seems that Seven doesn't like a lot file sharing with a Linux file server using Samba.

That was already the case with Vista but samba get up to date, and some issues where fixed.

Now I would know if some here have issues with Seven.

If yes can you please give some details:
Linux distrib
Samba version
Seven Build
And a short explaination.

My case:

Linux Debian R4
Samba 3.024
Seven 7000 x64

My issues:
Network share are well discovered, but really slow for navigate into. For the video films it's impossible to open one. Copying long files (video) crash the server (samba), need to restart it.. sometimes, need to restart all the server because the storage drive is like locked.

All work very fine with XP (but not from and guest virtual Machine with the seven host), and work great with Vista.

When trying to access the network share all my network get slow and I have disconnection (MSN, web, etc).

Cant Read Samba Share From Windows 7 Command Prompt?

Jan 15, 2011

I have a conceptronic CHD3NET network drive in my home network. It runs the latest firmware (v014 - which includes Samba version 3.2.14). In the network there are linux, winxp, vista and just recently win7 machines. All can map drives on the CHD3NET. All the versions of windows can read the files on the mapped drives from windows explorer. All can access the mapped drive from a command prompt EXCEPT win7. Using dir on a win7 machine displays a listing where all the filenames (and folder names) are blank. with a bit of experimentation (by doubleclicking batch files on the mapped drive), it seems win7 thinks there is an unprintable character at the beginning of the filename. It seems to misunderstand the chads at the end as well and concatenates several filenames into one.

Windows 2008 Server Or Linux For Server

Oct 16, 2009

Have been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.

I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.

(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).

The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.

I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".

I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.

It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).

I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.

Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.

This guy does a great job at this .

Convert your Windows Server 2008 R2 to a Workstation! - Multiboot Installation

Windows 7 VM's run just fine on W2008 server (they should as there is a lot of common code).

Samba As PDC: "The Trust Relationship ... Failed"

Jan 15, 2013

When I try a net logon from Windows 7 64-bit Business (don't have any other Windows machines), I get "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed". The discussion I've found around the Web regarding this error message seems to be only in the context of the 30 day password expiry issue, where the solution is to simply rejoin the domain.I have this problem *always*, and rejoining does not help. I have not been able to do a net login at all, from the first time I tried. At the same time, there's no problem accessing the Samba shares by going to \SMB in Windows Explorer and logging in with the same user accounts. Code: # smbstatus Samba version 3.6.7-48.12.1-2831-SUSE-SL12.2-x86_64 The LAN is on 172.16. and the Samba machine is also the LAN's DNS server; not using LDAP. We had been using Samba for simple file sharing, with no domain functionality enabled, and with the Windows machines on the network configured as members of the workgroup. We recently decided to set Samba as a PDC and support roaming profiles, and have been blocked by this trust error.

The profiles directory was chmod 2775 and its group changed from root to users. The netlogon directory is 755. Initially, in smb.conf the name resolve order was starting with dns, but Windows 7 kept giving me an error about not finding the domain when I tried to change from workgroup to domain, so I took that out and set wins as the first item in the list.

Code: # cat /etc/samba/smbusers:
root = administrator Administrator admin
nobody = guest pcguest smbguest I added root to smbpasswd.

I also executed the following:

Code: net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=root rid=512 type=d
net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Users" unixgroup=users rid=513 type=d
net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Guests" unixgroup=nobody rid=514 type=d

[code]....

Brought in a new Windows 7 64-bit machine and that one works... So it seems to be a Windows configuration issue, but what other settings could possibly cause this authentication failure? The new machine is a recent clean install and uses MSE as antivirus, whereas the older workstations use AVG and Ad-Aware. But I doubt the antivirus could cause the difference. And I don't see any difference in the network configuration of the machines.

Missing Dns Server, Missing Rpc Server No Internet?

Jul 16, 2012

i have a 2006 acer laptop that just recently decided not to get onto the internet. it will connect to the network but no internet. i have looked at more forums than i can count but to no avail. i will try to list the problems/symptoms but i am not familiar with programming language and don't know exactly what all the command prompts are suppoed to achieve and the like.-isatap ipv6 adapter is not working (some people say it does'nt matter but???)-ip address starts with 169-ipconfig /release and release6 does not workbecause "an address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint"-ipconfig /flushdns does not work because "function failed during execution"-cannot displaydns because "dns cache is unavailable"-cannot registerdns because "rpc server is unavailable"-checked my services and found some dependant ones that i could not manually start ERROR1075: DNS client service, tcp/ip netbios helper, routing and remote access, internetconnection sharing (ics). all failed to start with the same error code 1075-ERROR 10022- netlogon service-tried "netsh int ip reset" but reset echo request failed. "access denied". i am the admin for this computer. it worked the first time i tried it with no errors. now i get the failed echo message.

-cannot setclassid "as know adapter is in a state permissable for this action"-i saw something about the dhcp-read on one forum that people were having trouble after deleting norton(symantc) programs. i have deleted norton programs and think i got all of them (how to be sure?)-netsh winsock reset successfully-tried regrepair, regseeker, and a few of those "free download" programs that say they will fix your problems after you register/purchase them. i figure if the computer can stop working so easily i can get it to start as easily. maybe that's naivety speaking.-i have scanned my cpu for viruses (naturally) with 3-4 different programs (maybe norton would have found something).clean-thought it might have something to do with the registery since i had a nasty virus everal months ago that i think changed it somehow.-of course my system restore points are dated after this problem occured.-i bought the computer at staples and it did not come with a windows startup disc.

i can't think of any more though i know i've tried more than is listed. the dns and rpc servers seem to be the main coulprits but how do i fix that? also possibly the norton issue? i've read so many forums i'm seeing triple and everyone seems to suggest the same things. i've tried them so many times (to no avail). i've even changed the network adapters ipv6 and ipv4 adresses to 208.67.222.222 with the alternate. nothing. there has to be something i'm overlooking but what
