I backed up all files to an external hard drive. Had Windows 7 installed, and have tried a number of ways to import or open the data file/ pst back into Outlook 2003. I was getting a lot of 'it can't find the file' to now 'that I don't have the permissions to open it'.
I have no passord on my pc - took it off to see if that would work. Didn't help. I moved it under my user name to see if that would help. It hasn't. Please...any suggestions as my downloads etc for Security software, other downloads, are stored in my email folders.

I have an ASUS N51Vf on which I just changed a defective hard drive with a new one, same size and specs as the old. After a clean windows 7 install all was working fine. I created a System Restore Point. No errors reported, restore point created.I then tried to restore all my data and settings with a back up I had on a external hard drive. This back up has been made with LaCie Genie Back up Assistant, a program with decent review online. After having finished to restore the back up, I was asked to restart windows, which I did. Windows restarted but then it failed to log in giving an error (which appears to be quite common googling it). A window pop up saying "Interactive logon process initialization has failed. Please consult the event log for more details."If you say ok the windows keeps appearing again and again. There was no way to access windows whatever mode (safe, normal and all the other boot option appearing when pressing f8) I choosed. Startup repair was as well ineffective (since there was no problem in the startup process itself.)
People online reported the only way to fix this was to check the event log files on another computer. So I installed Ubuntu on the unallocated space I left when installing win 7, I copied the logs files, I went through all the errors in the event viewer of another computer, particularly those in application.evtx, I copied safe version of winlogon.exe logonUI.exe and userInit.exe on windows/system32 through Ubuntu but nothing worked. Same error preventing log in.I then went into the System Restore Point nasty affair. As I previously mentioned, I created this point prior to restore the LaCie backup. The Restore point was there, accessible through the standard recovery options. What appears is this: standard final window of System Restore and I couldn't select any of this drive and proceed. So I go to the Command Prompt and I realize that windows has been installed on D:, not on C:, which appears to be the system reserved partition with 70Mb free. Something standard when you install Windows 7 apparently. Since my backup was made copying files from C: and I didn't care for the path when restoring my LaCie backup, I thought I messed up things attempting to copy to the wrong drive, even though no error was reported to me.So I formatted everything, reinstalled windows paying attention not to create other partitions. Clean install, all went through fine. I check on Computer what's the windows unit label, and it is C indeed. I didn't check for the presence of other partitions. I re-restore files from the LaCie Backup. At the end I try to create a new System Restore point, but a weird error tells me that I can't. Already suspicious, I restart, to find myself on the exact same position as before, unable to login, unable to restore (both same as previously described) and, moreover, checking through command prompt, win 7 appears to be in the D: unit again with the C: set up to be the system reserved!!

I am using Windows7 and IE8 on a Dell2350. The computer was working fine till last Friday and now I can't download anything. I keep getting a message saying "Unable to download... Unable to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." The dialog box itself doesn't show how big the file is or the download speed or the time left. I also keep getting a message saying a program has corrutped my program setting.

Something was deleted on the IE9 folder located at Program files(x86) by a 3rd party software(revo uninstaller pro) and now running IE9 x86 is impossible though the x64 version still works fine.I tried reinstalling IE9 but no luck, version x86 wont run at all.Registry entries could also been deleted as revo uninstaller pro will search for leftovers and i blindly pressed the delete thinking i was uninstalling a game but somehow IE was included.

That is, when want to format my hard drive, I (according to previous posts) right click on computer management, and select "Run as administrator" then open up the disk management and "format" will appear as an option in bold.It doesn't.Format is shaded no matter what.I was able to get rid of a nasty virus checker that disabled my machine by forcing safe mode and garbage canning the virus checker, but I wonder if it damaged my machine. Also, F8 doesn't work on this machine, it never has.

I used Acer's function to restore my computer to factory settings, and I picked the option to save backup files.
I can find the backup folder, and I know the files are there because the folders take up quite a bit of size, but there are no programs in the folder. The only programs I have been able to get was through MTGO. It found the files some how. Excel, word, etc can't find those files. Even the ones MTGO found I can only see using the program.
Does anyone know how I can get my old prgrams back?

I've been having this problem off and on for the last month or two. So, when I try to launch a game (For example Warcraft 3) The program shows the launch image, and when that disappears, the program appears in task manager taking up only 100-3000 Kb of memory, never rising. When I end said task, my computer slows down to a snail pace and I need to restart. I've run virus scans, and every time they come up with nothing. I tried to system restore, but I also don't have any restore points other than the system update I did this morning. The problem started in about February of this year, and goes off and on for about a week or two. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 build 7601, with avast! antivirus.

I have come to this website because I am at my wit's end with what to do about this piece of malware I have.
I downloaded rkill and Combofix. I have Malware Bytes installed, but I am unable to run or open any of them. My task manager is clouded with consent.exe. Every time I try to open a file, another consent.exe appears in the task manager. My anti-virus (Vipre) only found:
fraudtool.win32.fakerean.d
with 2 traces. About I week ago I got rid of (but not completely) a variant of the fake Win 7 Anti-Virus virus', and I'm sure it just crept back up on me.
I can access the internet, but that's about it. When I open my start menu I can't select anything, but I figured how to expand the lower task bar so I can access mycomputer. What do I do from here?

I wasn't quite sure where to post this so I'll put it here My mother bought a cooking ebook, in PDF format and in 7 parts. They came with a password to view which is understandable, but printing is restricted. My mum doesn't really think taking her laptop in the kitchen is a very practical method of reading it, and so naturally she asked me to try and find a way around this restriction. As I said I have the password to actually open the PDF and it was all legitimately acquired so I don't see the problem in asking a question of this nature.

Win 7 Pro, Boots up shows "press ctrl+alt+del" screen, Once this is pressed, the prompt for the password does not show (mouse moves not frozen) Unable to recover from rescue cd After toiling with this issue for some time I found that when the computer is shut down properly, the next login does not show the password prompt. If the computer is shut down via a 5 second power-button press, the password prompt appears the next time the computer is turned on after the "start widows normally" dos screen. I had an older image of the os on a harddrive (replaced HD with solid state) that I used to "restore" from. The issue happened again some 6 days later. I can not keep restoring/backing up all the time as it is very time consuming (there is a lot of changing data on this computer and having to back up like this all the time is not a realistic solution).

Initially I had Windows 7 Ultimate (retail version) installed on my desktop. When I tried to install Ubuntu, I found that the hard-disk partitioning scheme was GPT. So I made a back-up of my drive's contents, re-partitioned the disk as MBR, re-installed Windows 7, and overwrote the disk contents with my backed up files.
This worked splendidly (i.e., I have all my installed applications, etc. intact) EXCEPT for one nagging issue: When I boot, if I let it boot directly into the hard disk, it does not work. I have to select F10 (BIOS boot options menu), and from there select the hard-disk, and only then Windows 7 boots properly.
I tried bcdedit, bootrec, etc. No use. Any recommendations, please?
