View 1 RepliesI've had to disable automatic updates as this one and KB2518870 don't install and the PC keeps trying to download them every day! When I go into control panel it tells me that I have MS.NET Framework 4 Client Profile. But cannot uninstall it. When I go to the "turn windows feature on/off" option it says I have MS.NET Framework 3.5.1
I've tried reloading version 4 from the MS website but it tells me I already have version 4 (or the download is being blocked). I've tried a clean boot - doesn't help. I've tried turning off Norton - doesn't help. Error code is 66A (unknown error).
I'm running Windows 7 Home premium on a Dell Studio One. Problems with these downloads seem to be quite common.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an Acer Revo AL100 and it was able to play all of the BluRay discs that I asked it to. I borrowed a copy from a mate and the Revo is able to detect that there is a disc in the drive, it chugs away for a couple of minutes and then I get a message that it was unable to download a BD-Live Update. Once I get this message the disc stops spinning and I don't get to watch my movie.
I get more or less the same results using the clear.fi application that came pre-installed, WinDVD Pro 11, PowerDVD 12 and Total Media Theatre 5 so I'm thinking that it's an issue with the hardware. The drive is a MATSHITA BD-CMB UJ141AL and I've been unable to find firmware updates for it anywhere. Is there anything else I can try short of trying to swap the drive for a different?
A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
When using update service in Windows 7 sometimes I get some drivers update and I wonder which drivers are this? are the made by microsoft or they are the real deal from hardware manufacturer.

If the instalation was succesful why does windows keep on intalling it over & over again. Does anyone know the answer to this problem I am having. Once a new update has been succesfully installed, Windows 7 should not have to install it over & over again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, a Windows update arrived called Microsoft Security Essentials Client Update Package - KB2544035. Since then my computer started malfunctioning. Whenever, I try to install the update, everything goes fine, and then suddenly goes blank and the desktop returns (but the Windows update screen had closed). When I open Windows update, it shows that the aforesaid update is not installed. And when I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut on my desktop, the machine is not able to find it and asks to delete it. I can't even open Microsoft Security Essentials manually from Program files. Things return to normal on System Restore. But the Microsoft Security Essentials appears potentially unprotected and asks for a full system scan. But before the scan is complete the Microsoft Security Essentials screen closes and the desktop returns once again. And, once again, when I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut on my desktop, the machine is not able to find it.

Details Download size: 2.1 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
Update type: Important
A security vulnerability exists in Microsoft Works 9 that could allow arbitrary code to run when a maliciously modified file is opened. This update resolves that vulnerability. I get error code 646. All other updates are installing successfully - have also run the Windows Update "fixit" which is the only available way from MS but makes no difference. I don't routinely open any files unless I am sure of their provenance so I'm not overly concerned - it's just annoying to have constant update failures on this one. Not even sure I have Works 9 ...although obviously it thinks I do ....
Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB973688). I've continuously receive an error stating this update failed. I've been trying to figure what could be the cause. I just purchased a new laptop (Acer - Aspire) that was preloaded with Windows 7. All other updates have been successful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, has anyone had any trouble with installing MS 2007 software on Windows 7; do you forsee my current issue hindering future MS 2007 install? I'm currently using MS 2003.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what's going on so I'll quickly describe what I've been experiencing. First off, this a three month old computer. I don't use any P2P applications. I'm good at not clicking false links, etc. I'm up to date with Microsoft Updates and all of my software is up to date as well. I ran a virus scan and it came back completely clean. Sunday afternoon, I left my computer up with a bunch of windows open in Google Chrome. Everything was fine. I came back and no web pages would load. I disconnected my ethernet cable and plugged it back in. Everything was fine for a little while. Then everything started getting choppy. Programs were taking forever to open and once they did, the entire computer started lagging. For example, songs in iTunes would pause for about a half a second and jump right back in. It happened almost routinely, every 3-4 seconds. The mouse cursor was also jumping. I restarted and the same effects were observed. I can no longer open any MS Office products. This REALLY screws the computer up. I opened task manager and I can see Powerpoint, for example, running in the background and using about 100kb of memory. "End Process" does not even end the process. I tried using PSKill.exe to kill the process, but to no avail.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Ultimate and I have my Windows Update settings set to "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them." The reason I use this setting is because even though I usually install the updates (because mostly they improve things), sometimes I'll see an update that I know I do not want to install. So I want to have control over which updates get installed. However, I ALWAYS want to install the latest "Definition Update For Microsoft Security Essentials", and since those updates are released very frequently, it's very annoying to always have to install them manually. Is there a way that I can have ONLY those definition updates installed automatically while still leaving it so that all other updates are not automatically installed?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn our office, running both Office 2007 and 2010, when trying to create a new document from a template (ex.: business cards or letters), I get a message that says "Unable to connect to Microsoft Office Online" with 2 options: "Try again" and "Troubleshoot your internet connection" (Office 2010 has a third option: "Tell us what you are looking for"). The product is activated on both and I am able to connect directly via a browser to the template site here:http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/templates/?CTT=97 . I can ping microsoft.com and have no other connectivity issues, and our network firewall and the local firewall are not blocking anything Office-related as far as I know. In fact, on one computer, I logged in as the local administrator and was able to connect doing the same thing, then logged back in as a network user AND the network administrator and both failed once again. What would cause this between accounts, and FYI, this method did NOT work on 2 other computers (logging in as the local admin). This occurs on both Office 2007 and 2010 products (2010 is running on Windows 7, 2007 is running on Windows XP).Also, I tried using the computer (under the local admin account) on our public network (like a home network connected by cable modem, using DHCP) and it worked fine also, if that makes any difference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have several machines that are unable to open files from links/attachments, it appears to only have the problem with Word/Excel/Web links as PDF and PowerPoint appear to open correctly (although possibly a bit slow)For example if I receive an Excel attachment if I try to open it directly from the attachment, Excel opens, however the spreadsheet itself never opens. If Excel is already open when I attempt to open the document, it will then open the document. It does the same thing for Word where it opens word but not the document, unless word is already openWhen you click a web link, it does not even open Internet Explorer, however if you have IE open when you click the link, it will open the page in a new tab.

I then noticed that I could not get to any Microsoft site but all other sites work fine. I am a computer tech and run a small home network the laptop being the only machine running windows 7 all other run XP or Linux all other machines can access all Microsoft sites so I am pretty sure the problem lies with the laptop, however after running every scan I can think of and coming up empty I wiped the mbr and recreated the hard drive partition and reinstalled windows with the factory restore disks.
I've been running disk and system maintenance on my computer, and sfc found some corruption it couldn't repair. It looks like it's .NET framework 4 that has the errors, so I uninstalled it and its updates, then reinstalled it and updated it, but the problem remains. Since that didn't solve it, I'm not sure if that's where the problem is or what to do about it. Anyone know which files I need to look at before I resort to doing an upgrade/repair installation?
