How can I turn off the Microsoft Update notifications?I just want to receive update notifications for Winows.It seems each time I get "you have updates to be installed," I get Microsoft notifications (Office, etc.) which I do not want. I went to Change Settings, but it doesn't have Microsoft listed turn (to turn off notifications).Is it impossible to turn off the Microsoft update notifications in Win 7 (64-Bit)?
View 2 RepliesOne USB device on my desktop computer running Win 7 professional does not work. Maintenance service told me that they cannot repair dysfunctional USB because it is build into the case (chassis). But one dysfunctional USB is not a problem at all, because I have 7 other USB slots operating normally. Anyway, now I am getting non-stop notifications of this non-problem!!! Why? The frequency is sometimes very high and always extremely annoying: it varies greatly, it can be between 5-10 per minute. Aural notifications have this annoying sound and visual notifications are popping up in a sizable cloud in bottom right corner of a screen and are lingering there for far too long, and when I click to close it, it pops back immediately. This is a spoiler (I could tolerate one or two dysfunctional notification a day). It is bothering me visually and aurally, greatly diminishing my user experience, disturbing my work, my listening to the music and watching the pictures or movies. After much tinkering I succeeded to turn off sound notification (via Sounds customization), but I cannot turn off visual notifications. I cannot customize Notification area icons - when I try to "Hide icons and notifications" in category Windows explorer where there is this unwanted visual message USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED and click OK, it does not work, because it pops up again immediately - next time I check Notification area icons customization this category is back to "Only show notifications" although I changed it to "Hide".

I also ran Aaron Stebner's .NET Framework setup verification tool (which was clean as well).I have been using a software program that uses "Microsoft .net 3.5".We have been having some issues with the program and were advised to turn on the following Windows features:Control Panel> Programs> Windows Features>Microsoft .Net 3.5>two checkmarks below thisI have repeatedly checked these, tow at a time, one at a time, etc and the system will give me a "wait message", state that all of the features could not be started and request a re-boot. Upon a re-boot, neither of these features are checked.I have also attempted to re-install 3.5 (and the program itself). We have been unable to re-install 3.5 (it appears to start but just disappears without any confirmation whatsoever).When I look in programs I have Microsoft.Net 4.0, which apparently is the "parent" of 3.5I have also entirely removed both McAfee & Malwarebytes thinking these may have been blocking us, all to no availby the way, system restore is also failing!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Lenovo and figured that I should obviously get the Windows updates for it. I went to download the updates and all went well, that was until it tried to configure them with my computer. Everytime I turn on my computer now, I have to wait for it to try to configure updates. It gets to 15% completed, and then it suddenly says that the updates failed to configure, so the computer restarts, and then I have to wait for it to start up AGAIN. I've tried this at least 8-9 times and get the same result.

Windows update does not appear in the Services menu.
I read that windows update is linked to windows defender, which I have found is also not running and will not turn back on. When I attempt to turn it on I get error code: 0x80070424, and it also does not appear in the Services menu.
I am using McAfee which I think could be interfering with Defender, I also ran a Security Check that I found through a previous thread, these were the results:

I am having a problem with this update. Windows update has updated this one file 18 times already. Everytime I start the computer this update is ready to be installed again. Evertime this file has been installed the installation has been successful. If the instalation was succesful why does windows keep on intalling it over & over again. Does anyone know the answer to this problem I am having. Once a new update has been succesfully installed, Windows 7 should not have to install it over & over again.

When I go into control panel it tells me that I have MS.NET Framework 4 Client Profile. But cannot uninstall it. When I go to the "turn windows feature on/off" option it says I have MS.NET Framework 3.5.1
I've tried reloading version 4 from the MS website but it tells me I already have version 4 (or the download is being blocked). I've tried a clean boot - doesn't help. I've tried turning off Norton - doesn't help. Error code is 66A (unknown error).
I'm running Windows 7 Home premium on a Dell Studio One. Problems with these downloads seem to be quite common.

I mean the laptop would turn on but not the screen I tried doing the power option meaning i held the power button for 30 secs then 60 secs after it didn't work. i removed the battery and all that. Whenever, I try to install the update, everything goes fine, and then suddenly goes blank and the desktop returns (but the Windows update screen had closed). When I open Windows update, it shows that the aforesaid update is not installed. And when I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut on my desktop, the machine is not able to find it and asks to delete it. I can't even open Microsoft Security Essentials manually from Program files. Things return to normal on System Restore. But the Microsoft Security Essentials appears potentially unprotected and asks for a full system scan. But before the scan is complete the Microsoft Security Essentials screen closes and the desktop returns once again. And, once again, when I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut on my desktop, the machine is not able to find it.

A security vulnerability exists in Microsoft Works 9 that could allow arbitrary code to run when a maliciously modified file is opened. This update resolves that vulnerability. I get error code 646. All other updates are installing successfully - have also run the Windows Update "fixit" which is the only available way from MS but makes no difference. I don't routinely open any files unless I am sure of their provenance so I'm not overly concerned - it's just annoying to have constant update failures on this one. Not even sure I have Works 9 ...although obviously it thinks I do ....
Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB973688). I've continuously receive an error stating this update failed. I've been trying to figure what could be the cause. I just purchased a new laptop (Acer - Aspire) that was preloaded with Windows 7. All other updates have been successful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, has anyone had any trouble with installing MS 2007 software on Windows 7; do you forsee my current issue hindering future MS 2007 install? I'm currently using MS 2003.

The reason I use this setting is because even though I usually install the updates (because mostly they improve things), sometimes I'll see an update that I know I do not want to install. So I want to have control over which updates get installed.However, I ALWAYS want to install the latest "Definition Update For Microsoft Security Essentials", and since those updates are released very frequently, it's very annoying to always have to install them manually. View 4 Replies View RelatedSo the notification area in Windows 7 is customizable in that you can select to show all icons and notifications or selectably "Icon and notifications", "Notifications only", "No icon or notifications" for the programs. There is one option missing, showing only icon but not notifications.
How could I work around that? There are some programs I want to show on the notification area for their icon but I do not want to receive the notification bubbles of them and there are no options in the programs themselves to turn them off.
Of course to my logic if there is option to show notifications but no icon, there should also be option to show icon but no notifications. Well, apparently the new name "notification area" is made to resemble this restriction, it's made for the notifications and the icons showing there are extra. But what if the user wants it to behave otherwise?
I have it set to hide icon and notifications and for some only show notifications however it doesnt change anything. They still show. Yes i made sure to not click cancel. When i go back and check my settings are verified, this has been going on for a while,i am now just posting about it.

There is no problem with icons - they all are there, but the notifications aren't display.My taskbar is set to autohide. When there must be a notification - i.e. when I disconnect a flash drive - the task bar stays for a moment (like there is a notification) and then hides, but there is no notification shown at all. So the question is in the title. Outlook 2013 gives me notifications about newly received junk mail which I don't want to see. Can I somehow disable that feature and let it notify me just when regular email is received?
