You Are Not Logged On As An Administrator Pop Up

Mar 29, 2011

I am dealing with more of an annoyance than a serious problem. When I start up I recv. a msg stating that I am not logged on as an administrator. I then have to switch users at the start menu and then no more pop up and I do have administrative capabilities.I am not that computer savy but I dont think this is normal. Other than the guest account(which is off), I am the only user. I have been through the control panel inside out and upside down. I am listed as the administrator for sure, in a group, not a domain. I also turned off the password requirement. I am confused as to why I have to take that step.

Cannot Add Or Remove User Accounts While Logged In As Administrator

Nov 24, 2011

For some reason I can no longer edit user account information. The following options do not work:

Add or Remove User Accounts
Create an Administrator Account
Create an Account
Create Standard User Account
Turn Guest Account On / Off

All the options appear, it's just when I click on them nothing happens?! I'm logged in as Administrator, I even unlocked the hidden Administrator account and am still running into the same issues. As far as answers go all I can find is the typical, "do a system restore", "reinstall Windows", crap like that. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

Unable To Run As Administrator

That is, when want to format my hard drive, I (according to previous posts) right click on computer management, and select "Run as administrator" then open up the disk management and "format" will appear as an option in bold.It doesn't.Format is shaded no matter what.I was able to get rid of a nasty virus checker that disabled my machine by forcing safe mode and garbage canning the virus checker, but I wonder if it damaged my machine. Also, F8 doesn't work on this machine, it never has.

Unable To Access Administrator

Oct 21, 2012

My 15 year old son was trying to bypass Cyberpatrol and in the process of tring to change his account from an adminstrator to a standard user I've made things worse. I changed the administrator account in his name to a standard user account but there was no other administrator account on the PC other then something called CYBERPATROL_SERVICE which is an administrative account istalled automatically by Cyberpatrol. This was the first mistake. Then he guessed the password to Cyberpatrol and attemped to uninstall it...it only 'half' uninstalled it, leaving a real mess of error messages and no access to let me change anything. I can now neither reinstall cyberpatrol or unistall it, nor can I see a way to log back in as an administrator to effect any changes to put things right. Three emails to cyberpatrol have elicited no response so I'm coming to the conclusion the onlu way out is to reinstall Windows 7 and find a different web filtering program- is there any way to log back in a an administrator? I didnt delete the admin account, only changed it to a standard type. Then If I can get back in as a administrator how can I get rid of the unwanted Cyberpatrol?

Unable To Use Administrator Privileges?

Mar 28, 2012

I own an hp touchsmart 310-1020 pc running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I was trying to sync my iPad 2 to iTunes via USB, but iTunes kept freezing up as soon as I clicked on any function. So I tried to repair it via apple's iTunes download. That didn't work as I still had the same issue. So I uninstalled it. And then tried to reinstall it. It downloaded just fine, but when it tries to install it pops up with a message saying "You do not have sufficient privileges to complete this installation for all users of the machine. Log on as an administrator and then retry this installation." My problem is that I am logged in as the administrator, and as such should have full privileges. How do I check that?

Unable To Access Administrator Account?

Jan 9, 2011

In Win 7 Home Premium, I apparently did something wrong as I can no longer access the administrator account on my desktop. I am logged in as a guest and have tried just about everything suggested here. I have started in Safe Mode but can't access admin. I have used the installation disk to do a repair and used the activate command in the command prompt. I used the "enableadmin" mentioned on this site. Regardless of what I do here, when I restart I am back in Windows as a Guest. Even doing a system restore made no difference.

It would appear I have to do a clean install but before doing so thought I would ask to see if there is anything else

Unable To Demote Administrator Account?

Feb 21, 2012

I am trying to convert to using a limited user account. I want to do this as it is a safer practice than what I am doing at the moment. Currently I am using the default Admin account when I purchased the computer from new. This account has all my files, images and music files. I have created an Admin account and then tried to 'demote' my default admin account which contains all my files to a limited user privileges. However the default Admin account does not show 'Change Account Type'. Is this because Windows 7 believes I have not created an Admin account and will not let me demote the user privileges.

Why Doesn't Local Administrator Group Have Full Administrator Rights

Feb 22, 2010

A little background and info: I support a number of people who for one reason or another need to be able to do things a local admin can do like install programs and start services (or more accurately allow a program they're running to start a service). All users are in the local administrators group. The local admin account is enabled (and renamed) so that we as administrators have local access when the machine comes in for service. The machines are joined to a AD domain so that we can control a lot of the security via GPO. Everything worked fine in XP.

We are getting a few different "you do not have permission" errors. When the user tries to run OpenAFS (which starts a service) they get a "you do not have permission" error. There is no way around this error.

Also, when the users try to run Lotus Notes they get a "you do not have permission" error. When we go into compatibility mode and check the "run as administrator" (or just right click and "run as administrator) it works fine, but they have to click the elevated privileges. The program was installed while logged in as the user.

Again, all users are members of the local administrators group. When the local admin account logs in all these programs run fine. This behavior started in Vista and I chalked it up to "vista sucks". Windows 7 so far seems to be great, except that like in vista, members of the local administrators group are not really local administrators. How do I make them true local administrators?

Drag & Drop Works For Hidden Administrator But Not For Administrator User?

Feb 14, 2011

I use an old XP app (JetToolbar - available at JetToolBar - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) and do not want to change but I cant make it work on Windows 7. The application installs and starts up just fine but it is not possible to drag icons/programs/files to the toolbar - I just get the 'no entry' sign (Circle with line through)However, the application runs fine when logged on to the hidden Administrator account. If I set up the application in the hidden Admin account and then log on as a normal admin user and run it from that account, the icons I set up are just not visible. So what do I have to change in my normal user account (member of administrators) to make this drag and drop work?I have tried 'Run as administrator' but that made no difference. Ive read about dropping to 'Run as User' apps from 'Run as Admin' apps but that's not the problem (at least problem occurs when app is run as user or run as admin)

Windows 7 Won't Boot After Defrag

Aug 19, 2012

I normally dual-boot Windows XP and Windows 7 from separate partitions on the same physical drive. Now I cannot get Windows 7 Professional to boot after defragmenting the volume on which it resides from a different OS (Windows XP). Upon selecting Win7 from my boot menu, it initially gave a bootmgr error that a critical file could not be found.

I booted from the Win7 DVD and selected to repair my Win7 installation. I clicked on the details and the log indicated that partmgr.sys was found to be corrupt and had been replaced. Upon restarting, the Win7 animated logo appeared, but after that the screen went black and the computer rebooted.

I confirmed that partmgr.sys was replaced by booting into XP and looking for the file on the Win7 partition. I ran startup repair from the DVD again, but it said it replaced the same file- partmgr.sys - again. Chkdsk comes up clean, and the sfc /scannow command won't run because "there is a repair operation schedules that requires a reboot ."

There has got to be a way to get back into Win7 given that all I did was defrag..

Disable Disk Defrag On SSD?

May 3, 2009

I read an article titled "Windows 7 gets SSD-friendly" a while back that Windows 7 was supposed to take more consideration regarding computers with Solid State Drives. One of the mentioned steps would be to disable the Defrag option (something to do with SSD not getting any benefit from the defraged drives yet the extra work could actually lower the lifecycle of the SSD).Quote: At last weeks WinHEC techfest, Microsoft announced it wanted Windows 7 to make better use of SSDs. SSDs are on the path to reach their full potential says Microsoft senior program manager Frank Shu, who in a conference session on Windows 7 Enhancements for Solid-State Drives outlined how Windows 7 will be more SSD-friendly than Vista or XP. After recently installing Windows 7 onto my Lenovo x300 (which includes a SSD) I noticed the Defrag schedule was not disabled.

Windows Defrag Showing 1%, Instead Of 0%

I know that its not an immediate concern, but is this something I should be concerned with, since something seems to be wrong during file allocations when defragging.

Full Defrag Option Via Cmd?

The defrag tool in Windows Vista and Windows 7 seems to skip fragments larger than 64MB in size in order to cut down on defrag times. This problem was easily "solved" by going into command prompt and using the "-w" parameter.Example: defrag c: -w This option seems to have disappeared in Windows 7, and as such, large fragments are left unoptimized.

I'm not sure what else to try.I ran Analyze on my SSD (did not run defrag) to see what it would say. I just don't want that history showing it as fragmented. I understand it's a trivial complaint though, but don't like seeing it. That data has got to be saved somewhere in the OS and I want to blow it up
