I am running two systems off one laptop. One 64bit and the other 32bit.On the 64bit system all is well and working fine, but on the 32 bit system there is no wireless adaper been detected in the device manager. As i say, the actual wireless card is fine as its working perfectly on the 64bit system.What I am asking is: How do I get the device manager to recognise the wireless card within the 32bit system?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running windows 7 pro 64 bit on a WD 500 gig Sata Hard Drive, The other day I pulled the sata cable from the 500 gig sata and installed a samsung 250 gig SSD and loaded win 8 pro. The install went great. The problem is when I connect the sata cable back to the 500 gig HD to boot to win 7 I have to hook to a different slot on the motherboard to get it to boot. If I want to boot to the win 8 hard drive I have to do the same. If there a easier way to use two hard drives with two different OS in one computer so I can boot to either one. I dont want to dual boot on same drive.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of Windows 7 Home premium on a new hard drive. Previously, I had 2 hard drives and ran a dual boot, one XP and the other Vista. After Win 7 install, my machine originally gave me the option to boot into ony one of the three. After a few re-boots, it started skipping the splash screen and would automaitlcally got to Win 7 (I have no issues with this).
Now that I like Win 7 and everything is running fine, I want to format my other two drives. Problem is that my system won't let me format the drive with Vista on it as it seems to be using some system files or something. I've tried it from my computer, disc management and command prompt with no luck.
I removed the boot sequence from msconfig so only Win 7 is there and I used EasyBCD as another way of trying. Still can't format the Vista drive. All I want is my computer running Win 7 only and use my older drives as backup drives.
I have Win7 on NTFS, Ubuntu 10.04 on EXT4 and a third partition for general data with both operating systems can access.The third, shared partition is in FAT32.I have had this set up for years with no problems. Recently, I have found that files that I use, move, etc on my Ubuntu sometimes become corrupted. It is very occasional but is occurring more regularly. I use many files (obviously) but only a fraction of those appear to suffer with the problems. The files are generally left irrecoverably corrupted. It is only files that are stored on the shared FAT partition that become corrupted.All partitions are on the same drive.
To solve the problem, I reboot into Windows and sometimes CHKDSK does it's thing and sorts it all out. However, when CHKDSK does not run, the files are irrecoverably gone. CHKDSK says there are orphaned files, removes and recovers them. Sometimes, a file which has been deleted on on Ubuntu may then cause CHKDSK to scan, find and remove the file (or more particularly, sets all affected sectors to null). I can't quite place the error. Possibly in a ageing and failing Hard Drive? The Laptop is circa 3 years old-ish. I would say that combining file systems is an invitation for trouble - but genuinely I have never had any problems with it before. Sometimes I access Ubuntu when Windows is suspended which I feel may cause Read/Write collisions at OS level but if that is the case, surely it should prevent me accessing the file, rather than permit it and then treat the sectors as bad?
I have a couple of games that do not agree with 7 at all no matter what, and I would like to have multiple operating systems on here. How would I go about putting 98 on here?I have the disk and key. I want it to where I can choose which one I want.

In my first partition I have windows xp, and in the second partition windows 7.Is it safe to use only one swap / pagefile from only one partition (first one where resides windows xp)?My pagefile size is set to be in the first partition and at fixed size (minimum 4096 Mb maximum 4096 mb).Or should I make/move/user a swap file from the second partition (windows 7 partition). Far as I know from my benchmarks the hardisk is faster in the first partition (first 20 GB), that would be the xp partition, fast in the second one (from 20 to 50 gb) after this the speed is decreasing.I am using windows xp because Photoshop and some games seem's to be far more resposive and faster than in windows 7, and I use windows 7 for internet related & other stuff

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo i've been trying to figure out why the new computer I've built is freezing up randomly during operation. So far I've: Flashed an updated bios version, Run Memtest86+, and have been systematically uninstalling hardware. I think i've found the though, and it's the Linksys Wireless-G PCI adapter (WMP54G).
Once i removed this piece of hardware, the issue vanished. I looked online for some information and i found that the Ralink chipset Linksys uses has driver issues with 64bit windows 7 at 4gb+ ram.
So, what i basically want to know is, is there a good pci wireless adapter for 64bit windows that won't suck?
And no, i can't use an Ethernet cable, I split the Internet with my neighbors (apartment) and i'm the one w/o the router.
I am getting reports in windows and device manager of an unknown device attached to computer, but there are no devices attached. Hardware error has been ruled out by a computer technician but still get messages. (screenshots attached)

I have a new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 and an old Canon camera.
According to Panasonic the driver for their camera is incorporated in 7. I tried the canon and there was no problem downloading.
The Lumix down loads perfectly on the laptop without any drivers being added.
When I try to download the Lumix to the computer all I get is
"one of the usb devices has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it"
When I check the message it says "Unknown device. (check connections) If windows still does not recognise it replace the device"
Why does it work with the laptop and not the computer? Panasonic are no help once I said it worked on the laptop.
i have a sony vaio fw21 e ..with optiarc bc 5500 S... recently i have installed windows 7 64 bit build 7600... .. now windows can t play blu ray disc..cd and dvd are working perfect..only blue ray it doesnt work .. ..i put a blu ray disc inside.. makes a weird sound( that sound like the disc is broken ) , and it says in my computer no disc.

I have set aside a 20GB partition and i'm wanting to make a fresh instal, not fussed about keep XP. I have 2 internal hard drives @ 149GB each. But, Win 7 fails to recognise them even when i have set a partition on the empty HD! View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased a Zoomstorm PC and am running Windows 7 professional. I was happily going along when the dvd driver stopped being seen. It is there in the BIOS. I have checked the SATA cables, I have checked the filters in the regedit - I have even been on the MShelp forums and done all advised. But to no avail. The DVD does open and shut and I think mechanically it is fine. I do think that I am missing some kind of driver - that isn't supported by Windows 7. Although it was there initially. I can't re-install Windows 7 as its ...my DVD drive!! The DVD is a Samsung
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Windows 7, and most seemed to be fine. However, I just moved to college for the semester and I usually use wireless at school. I have a wireless card/adapter and it used to work fine on XP, but Windows 7 doesn't seem to recognize it at all. I checked device manager and the only network adapter is 'NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller'. Under 'Other devices' is 'Network Controller' with a little '!' next to it. This may be the wireless card, but I don't know how to make it work.I really need to get this wireless working, otherwise I could be screwed. I never removed the card so it should be in there. Not sure why windows 7 is not recognizing it (in fact, I used to get annoyed when the 'Wireless network detected' bubble popped up on XP. Now I want nothing more!)
