Is there a tweak that anyone knows that can make the All Programs in the start menu expand like it did with XP?
I don't know why MS made it the way they did without giving an option to expand it if we wanted to.
My startmenu just stays unchanged. I am on build 7068 64bit. On the previous builds the recently opened programs were listed in my startmenu with the jumplists.
The settings are right.
Start Menu All programs does not display any Icons, its just blank which of course leaves the system somewhat crippled. Does the same thing from the Administrators account as well.

I tried using EasyBCD but I cant select the drive letter which contains

I am about to reformat my system and reinstall all programs and settings etc.. One question I have is around the registry tweak to add a "Take Ownership" icon to the right click contect menu.I generally install this tweak as it's extremely useful and saves messing around with calcs commands. It seems however that once this is done in Windows 7 RTM 64 it replaces the icon to run as administrator (which is also extremely useful).Is there a way to keep both icons/features in the context menu?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a tweak possible to cause a program that doesn't have the ability built-in, to open multiple instances of itself to do so?I use Movie Collector for cataloging videos, and often when using it's scraper function, the options for a particular program's data download, is for each season of the program, which means that the program tree and thumbnail display fills rapidly, causing some orderly disorder.I prefer to integrate the seasons that I have of a series into a single listing, but to do that requires not only a lot of copy/pasting, but is hindered by the fact that one must go back and forth, opening and closing windows a lot. It would be much, much easier, if one could place two windows of the program side-by-side.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running win 7 64bit and all of a sudden all my desktop icons disappeared along with my start menu and my right click function. Ctrl-alt-del brings up the option to access the task manger but it fails to display it. safe mode is fine and when I create a new admin account (admin account 2) all is well. is there a way to fix this problem as i have a year old system restore that I dont want to use. I was hoping to fix my admin account 1 as it has all my settings, programs etc. Can this be fixed and if not is there a way to copy all settings (looks, programs, firefox settings etc) to the admin account 2.

I usually prevent these things from booting in my startup folders, msconfig and the task scheduler. The problem is that when these updaters update programs they reset themselves to start in msconfig etc.Which is ridiculous. I don't ever wan't or need itunes helper. I shouldn't have to constantly disable it as a startup itemAlso, I wan't to prevent programs from ever installing desktop shortcuts or items in my startup folder unless they explicitly ask me. No errs occurred/reported during upgrade... rebooted and "wallah"... no icons visible anywhere, and StartMenu functionality is nonexistent by keyboard or mouse-click. Reverted to an earlier restore point, but unfortunately that move cost me IPv4 functionality and i could not pull IPs.. spent a couple hours trying to restore my net adapters (netsh interface ipv4 install, et.al.), drivers, etc, with no success.... so i imported via USB the SP1 from M$ (W6.1-KB976932-X64) and recommitted myself to stupidity, i mean to the upgrade... IPv4 restored, but no icons, no StartMenu function.I remember a similar problem with an XP upgrade that required altering Registry values in REGEDIT.. but i cannot find those notes.

I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.

View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.
I have just bought a new acer aspier 5750z-4830 intel core b940 processor 4gb ddr3 memory 500 gb hdd 3 days ago and I am unable to install any new programs.I have tried to download meny sotwer not at the same time but the results are horrable.google chrome: 7 hours and never downloads. yahoo mesenger: connection is always lost and retrys never work. when i click cancle it says that it maybe my firewall but even when i allow the progrom through it won't work. so i turned if off for a little while still nothing. java: my laptop dose not come with java so i tried instlling it...121 hours to install this is rediclious.The download speed may not be so good right now beacuse we where hit by a storm 3 days ago however i have to ability to downlod but not the ability to install which i think is a bit weird

However, it does not appear as a default program when I am trying to use the "associate a file type or protocal with a specific program" even when I press the browse list. The program also does not appear when I "right click" the file itself and use the open command. The program also does not appear in the list of programs on the "All Progams: list when clicking the windows icon. So, can someone tell me how to get programs onto the default list....(Please, I have seen a number of threads that talk about how to "set" the default program which I am well aware of...I need to know how to get a program to be recognized and incoroporated as part of the list).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble running most program, specifically the ones I use the most. I can't run google chrome, or world of warcraft, as well as any other programs I typically use throughout the day. Aside from google chrome, everything else runs in safe mode. System restore was unable to fix my problem. This just started happening today. I had problems with my internet so I reset my computer to power cycle my router and upon restarting the problem occured.I've run Avira, IObit 360, and Malewarebytes, all of which were unable to find any problems. I also managed to get one of my regedit programs to run and only came up with the typical fixes(shortcuts, etc). I can't run msinfo32, or the task manager by right clicking the bottom bar. Interestingly enough I can ctrl+alt+delete and get the task manager. All the programs I try and run, show up as tasks.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer is infected so I tried to follow the steps on this website for removing spyware, malware, etc. however i am unable to run any executable programs. For example i have tried to run spybot, defogger, dds and everytime I hit Run, nothing happens and then I get a warning that says "Application cannot be executed. The file XXXXX.exe is infected. Please activate your antivirus software."
Also, every 20-30 minutes my computer automatically restarts. Before it restarts thought it goes to a blue screen. On this blue screen it says "The problem seems to be caused by the following file NTFS.SYS. It also says alot more but that is the one thing that stood out to me.
Well, All Programs seems to once again have gone blank. This has happened to me before but it was usually solved by either moving the Programs folder to the Desktop and back or setting it to Hidden but now it seems that neither of these solutions are working. Anyone got any ideas?

I am pretty familiar with the WAV, MP3 and normal file formats, but I saw MP4. That was new to me. I googled it and found it is an improved MP3. My question is, that my programs don't have MP4. View 8 Replies View RelatedIt was fine last week, but when I came back a few days ago, I noticed that some of my programs won't work.First I noticed that Rainmeter says that it can't find any skins, even though I do have skins and they should work fine.After that I noticed that Guitar Pro won't open tabs and throws an error message. The sounds won't work in GP either.And then I noticed that Minecraft won't launch.So I did a virus scan. Nothing came up. I tried running the programs as an admin, different compatibility and with my virus protection off.I've tried reinstalling the programs too, but no dice.Then I decided to get a new anti-virus program. Once I downloaded it and double clicked the setup.exe, it threw an error. I'm not sure what it is in english, since it's in finnish, but it's something to the sorts of "path can't be found". Just that line of text.Though I did install a game earlier. It did throw some error, which I can't remember now, but it did install.
