Dec 23, 2009If I do a clean install with win 7 64 bit o/s will my M/S office 2007, itunes and some pc games etc still work when I re load them?

Feb 9, 2011So over the past few days it seems that I have lost control of my C drive and all of its contents.I can no longer properly access it, and everything opens in "Read-Only". I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.

Feb 3, 2013Every time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.

Aug 24, 2011I have just bought a new acer aspier 5750z-4830 intel core b940 processor 4gb ddr3 memory 500 gb hdd 3 days ago and I am unable to install any new programs.I have tried to download meny sotwer not at the same time but the results are horrable.google chrome: 7 hours and never downloads. yahoo mesenger: connection is always lost and retrys never work. when i click cancle it says that it maybe my firewall but even when i allow the progrom through it won't work. so i turned if off for a little while still nothing. java: my laptop dose not come with java so i tried instlling it...121 hours to install this is rediclious.The download speed may not be so good right now beacuse we where hit by a storm 3 days ago however i have to ability to downlod but not the ability to install which i think is a bit weird

Feb 6, 2011I downloaded Adobe Shockwave Player which is needed to view a file (.swf), and it appears in the control panel as an installed program. However, it does not appear as a default program when I am trying to use the "associate a file type or protocal with a specific program" even when I press the browse list. The program also does not appear when I "right click" the file itself and use the open command. The program also does not appear in the list of programs on the "All Progams: list when clicking the windows icon. So, can someone tell me how to get programs onto the default list....(Please, I have seen a number of threads that talk about how to "set" the default program which I am well aware of...I need to know how to get a program to be recognized and incoroporated as part of the list).

Feb 5, 2011I'm having trouble running most program, specifically the ones I use the most. I can't run google chrome, or world of warcraft, as well as any other programs I typically use throughout the day. Aside from google chrome, everything else runs in safe mode. System restore was unable to fix my problem. This just started happening today. I had problems with my internet so I reset my computer to power cycle my router and upon restarting the problem occured.I've run Avira, IObit 360, and Malewarebytes, all of which were unable to find any problems. I also managed to get one of my regedit programs to run and only came up with the typical fixes(shortcuts, etc). I can't run msinfo32, or the task manager by right clicking the bottom bar. Interestingly enough I can ctrl+alt+delete and get the task manager. All the programs I try and run, show up as tasks.

Apr 11, 2011My computer is infected so I tried to follow the steps on this website for removing spyware, malware, etc. however i am unable to run any executable programs. For example i have tried to run spybot, defogger, dds and everytime I hit Run, nothing happens and then I get a warning that says "Application cannot be executed. The file XXXXX.exe is infected. Please activate your antivirus software."
Also, every 20-30 minutes my computer automatically restarts. Before it restarts thought it goes to a blue screen. On this blue screen it says "The problem seems to be caused by the following file NTFS.SYS. It also says alot more but that is the one thing that stood out to me.

Jul 27, 2009Well, All Programs seems to once again have gone blank. This has happened to me before but it was usually solved by either moving the Programs folder to the Desktop and back or setting it to Hidden but now it seems that neither of these solutions are working. Anyone got any ideas?

Apr 7, 2011It was fine last week, but when I came back a few days ago, I noticed that some of my programs won't work.First I noticed that Rainmeter says that it can't find any skins, even though I do have skins and they should work fine.After that I noticed that Guitar Pro won't open tabs and throws an error message. The sounds won't work in GP either.And then I noticed that Minecraft won't launch.So I did a virus scan. Nothing came up. I tried running the programs as an admin, different compatibility and with my virus protection off.I've tried reinstalling the programs too, but no dice.Then I decided to get a new anti-virus program. Once I downloaded it and double clicked the setup.exe, it threw an error. I'm not sure what it is in english, since it's in finnish, but it's something to the sorts of "path can't be found". Just that line of text.Though I did install a game earlier. It did throw some error, which I can't remember now, but it did install.

Oct 26, 2012Im having trouble with windows i donno what happened but i noticed that my steelseries engine wasnt working in the system tray and then i tried to run it but it didnt turn on nothing happens then i checked the task manager but it wasnt there either so it didnt run at all then i just tried to run game maker 8.1 it didnt run either so for i know 2 programs are not working. i believe the disk fan 4 screw it up after i deleted the duplicate programs and short cuts and i did a registry clean with it and i did ccleaner because i contacted steel series and their technician told me to but were still tryin to figure it out but i think its not a problem with the steel series cuz game maker is not working either and i bet some other wont either. so far i tried to uninstall and reinstalled clean the registry and tried to restore but the points are too recent to fix anything so i didnt do that i also made another account as administrator because i see this kind of problem and ppl made another accounts and it worked for them but it didnt work for me

All Programs Are All Gone
Jun 25, 2009I upgraded from vista to 7 last night and now every link there was to every program I had installed that was acessable from "all programs" is gone, it's just a big blank area. There were programs I used infrequently which i would access via this method. I know i can search out now where they are in program files & create a shortcut for the desktop but i prefer to keep it uncluttered as it was before.
Also vista, being the goofy program that it was, sometimes would do an install & the only way to access that program was via that "all programs" method. Take my norton360, it's there, somewhere, i know it is, it worked before and I see in the task manager "symantec user session" but 7 keeps telling me that no virus protection is installed. Whats up with that? I paid for a sub for that prog, i hope the answer isn't gonna be 'just dl a new free one off the web"

Aug 6, 2011I upgraded to win 7 pro so I could run xp programs. I downloaded the program from microsoft they said I needed. Doesnt work!!! Wont run my xp programs. As usual Microsoft has ripped me off again with no instructions on how to make it work.

Jul 18, 2011My C: drive, Windows 7's dedicated partition was given only 48.8GB of space (from the original configuration), and recently crashed. For Graphic Design school I need Adobe CS5 and Microsoft Office, which are huge space hogs, and I am certain my recent C: crash was because of the lack of space ("in the red" literally), in spite of keeping it free of extraneous junk and defraging. My personal files, Docs, Pictures, etc., were on D: and unaffected. I tried to install Adobe CS5 on my D: drive, and while it gave me a choice of where to install it [D:/Program Files/Adobe -created while installing], it installed on C: anyway (!!), and only folders with data files and shortcuts are shown on D:! I suppose I could enlarge my C: partition if Windows 7 will allow, but it makes no sense to me with a total of 1TB on the hard drive why I cannot install programs on D: and leave C: for just the OS/System files. I haven't tinkered with Regedit since Windows 98, but I gathered from other posts that that was a possible solution- essentially directing installs to D:, but I would need definite values before I tinker. What are my options?

Oct 16, 2011I am wanting to remove programs that have already been uninstalled from my add/remove programs list. I have tried uninstalling them in safe mode. I have tried to restore to an earlier time(which just compounded the problem). It used to give me the option of removing programs with a message like "error occured during uninstall would you like to remove program anyway?" but now I just get install.log not found over and over again. My program list is super huge and 80%(approx) is not even there. It is driving me insane.

However, after it was finished she could no longer run any programs and when trying to open IE through her toolbar it gave her a message saying it had been deleted. She managed to get the 64-bit version to work when running from her start menu, and things like Notepad will open.But none of her programs will work, though they worked perfectly fine just last night. WoW, her virus program, anything. We're all extremely frustrated by this, and hope someone can help give us some hints on fixing it. She's hoping she won't have to wipe it clean and reformat.

I was reading about how to build a speedy PC and of course how to have Photoshop work quickly. The general consensus was to build a machine with an SSD and run PS here. So that's what I did - I built a speedy machine, installed Win7 64 on the SSD and installed my programs there as well. PS runs great! Super fast. All data (and scratch disks) are on an HDD.However, in the time since I've built this I've been reading around on PC forums (like here). I believe what I've found in these forums is a consensus of having Win7 on the SSD and install all programs on another drive (HDD). So, let's call this question #1 - would that be the recommendation?I'll go off the assumption that the answer to #1 is YES. That'll give me a more responsive, better performing PC while possibly relinquishing some PS speed, correct? (We'll call that question #2.)If I'm going to go this route, (#3) what's the best/easiest way to accomplish this split? (#4) Do I need to uninstall everything and basically start from bare windows, then reinstall everything to the HDD?

When I open Skype it doesn't give me nothing and the process just disappears after a few seconds. Mar 12, 2011So, I'm on Home Premium 64 bit, and today everything was working just fine. After one reboot, nearly all the icons on my desktop were blank. As in, the individual icon pictures were just default. Every program I try to open all pops up with "Such and such file has been moved or Deleted" When running programs manually, I keep coming up with "Cannot run .ini or something to that effect if that helps. . The only thing I can get to work are Malwarebytes, Avira and Internet Explorer so far that I can find. No viruses have been detected by either of the scans and I just have no idea what to do from here. All MP3 files are also useless due to every media player that I have now appearing missing including WMP, Winamp, ITunes and such.
I really have no idea what to do here. The last thing I'd want is to have to format the computer. I have one 4gig thumb drive to back up some things, but that's about all I have. If those files aren't corrupted as well. I have no way of opening them to see.Tried a system restore before posting this and the restore failed.I know I am probably not providing all the information that I can, but if you need any more, please let me know. I'll be monitoring this thread all day.
