Run 16-bit Programs From A Command Line
Since DOS 2.0 I have written and collected command line programs. Many do things not possible without command line support. Such as run an Assembler and editor from a .BAT file (I use A86 if you want to search for it) to created and run handy small .COM programs. But none of these 16-bit programs work on my Vista 64-bit. A friend has the same computer I have, but with Vista 32-bit and he verified a few of my .COM programs worked fine. ? Would I be able to install Win 7 32-bit and run them?

Most 32-bit Programs Won't Run In RTM
I've been using Win7 since the beta, and not once have I had this problem 'till now (and I've used builds 7000, 7100, 7229, and 7260 without issues). But starting with build 7600.16384 (I have the RTM now (7600.16385)), I've been having trouble getting 32-bit programs to work. At first they were slow to start--now they won't start at all. Originally I could work around it by running them apps as Admin w/compatability for Vista SP2, but now even that doesn't work. 64-bit apps startup fine (Photoshop, IE8, any built-in app, etc.), but anything 32-bit will just sit in the Task Manager all day, with the memory usage never above 3-4MB, and simply fail to start. No error messages, no abrupt termination, just nothing. The only exceptions have been FL Studio 8 and Steam (but Steam games won't run), both of which run perfectly despite being 32-bit. I can only last so long using IE and not being able to play any games.

Can't Install Myst 64 Bit Programs, And Some 32 Bit
Just like it says, I have some (several) programs that can install in either 32bit or 64bit as well as I have straight up 32bit and 64bit programs only that some install but most do not. Why is this? This is how it always goes, every time too. I start the installation process and it starts doing it's thing. All looks good so far, as the installer takes you through to each next step, like normal. And then it comes! After a couple of three of these first things (which all seem like they are working normal) all of a sudden, I see that it wants to install something quite normal, a "MicroSoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (64)" file/program/whatever and as the little green process line grows it gets almost to the end, and sits there for a few seconds and then I get THIS popup error message: http://www.md-arts.com/scrn/64bit_Windows7_InstallingError_Cxx2005.JPG Is there something I can do to fix this? I have even tried downloading this file off the net and installed it, but it never seems as though it did any good, since I still get these same problems.

Win 7 64 Bit Lost All Programs And Files
I recently bought an HP Envy computer and has been running smoothly. I went to uninstall a driver for an HP All-in-one I bought and once completed my start menu went blank and there are no folders in my C:. I did a system restore to a week ago and it shows a couple of programs so I was able to access the internet and run every malware and virus scan I could find. Nothing. I downloaded "Restoration" which shows that all of my files are present on the hard drive I just have no access to them. It seems like something has cut all the addresses to the files so there is no access. The files are not "hidden".

Can I Install Win 7 X32 Bit Then Later To Win 7 X64 Bit With Same Licence Key ?
I currently run Windows XP x32 bit Operating System. I have ordered the "full retail" version of Windows 7. I understand that 2 discs will be enclosed in the box, one for installing Windows 7 x32 bit and the other for installing Windows 7 x64 bit. I understand that I need to choose whether I want the x32 bit or x64 bit Windows 7 Operating System and install the 1 I choose at that point. I am quite happy with that. However, what I would like to do is initially install the Windows 7 x32 bit system and in about 6 months (when I have upgraded my hardware sufficiently) then move on to the x64 bit Windows 7 Operating System.  Can I do this with the same 1 licence that comes with the full retail version I have just ordered or will I need to buy another copy of Windows 7 ? It would not bother me if I had to do a "clean install" to move from x32 bit to x64 bit.

Will Product Key For Win 7 64 Bit Business Upgrade Work With 32 Bit Install
I purchased several copies of Windows7 including the upgrade offer deal from Microsoft for Business. The upgrade CD came as a 64 bit which I will eventually install on my machine, but for the next several months I need to run 32 bit (legacy software which we are phasing out). Will the product key for the the 64 bit upgrade work with 32 bit install (I have a 32 bit Business which I have already installed on a different machine with its own product key).

I have been reading threads like crazy and am configured as the following:Window 7 64 Ultimate : Home network printing to an 32 Bit XP HP820CSEWindows7 has an HP 820CSE drive installed After much reading and configuration the printer is set up as a local port (YAY that allowed Windows 7 to finally see the print queue on the XP Machine) When I send a print job from Windows 7 (this was working with Vista 64 by the way) it flashes on the print queue on the XP machine as "Remote Down Level Document" from guest account Things that don't make a difference, Firewall on/off, Adding user account on XP machine (job is still seen as guest) any changes to processor type (winforms, xps) in the advanced printer tabs, any changes to RAW/EMF etc... Bidirectional printing is not enabled Network is cabled (not wireless) Computers see each and can share files and folders Print sharing is enabed File sharing is enabled

Win 7 64 Bit Version, Unable To Start Certain Programs And End Process In TM
I recently installed windows 7 and I'm pretty pleased with it, except that like 80 % of all programs are for 32 bit and don't support 64 bit ;l Anyways last night I was turning on winamp and it won't pop up, just loads and nothing happens then I got to task manager to end process on winamp, but the process it self won't go away. I can repeatedly end the same process over and over. Now I can'T open Itunes, Winamp nor msn messenger which makes no sens and in my task manager I noticed I can't end any process at all, yes if I end it the window disappears but the process is still in Task Manager.

Will Student Win 7 Pro 32-bit Key Work For 64-bit Later ?
My niece, who's in college ordered and downloaded Windows 7 Professional (one 32-bit and one 64-bit) from win741.com (Microsoft/Digital River deal for students only). I'm going to be installing this on her laptop (currently on Vista 32-bit going to ---> 7 Pro 32-bit), and her desktop (currently on Vista 32-bit going to ---> 7 Pro 64-bit via a clean custom install) this weekend. I'm also upgrading her desktop to 8GB of RAM since she uses this for Photoshop 64-bit and needs the extra memory for the times when she has several RAW D-SLR files and files with multiple layers open. Hence, the reason why we're using 64-bit on that desktop. We stayed with 32-bit on the laptop because they have old printers at her college that don't have 64-bit drivers, so to save her the hassle of incompatible drivers, we stayed with 32-bit on her laptop since it only has 2 GB of RAM. My Question is: If she decides to upgrade her RAM on her laptop later to 6GB, can she then use the 64-bit Windows 7 Pro installation (clean install of course) files she downloaded for her Desktop PC, but still continue to use the key she was given when she ordered & downloaded the 32-bit version?  I know this is possible with the Family Pack which provides 32-bit and 64-bit install CDs and just one key. Is the same possible for the student $30 download deal she got?

Bsod: Installing Win 7 64 Bit From Vista 64 Bit
Just finished trying to reinstall this for the third time. Somone suggested to remove all antivirus & mal-ware programs before the install as this might prevent registry edits. So I did, and still got the BSOD. Now everything is installed again for Vista.Not sure how to find the BSOD error as I have only seen it once. Every other time I walk into the room, my comp starts into Vista with a message saying that this computer is incompatable with Windows 7 and your previous version of Windows has been installed.Guess the bugs aren't fixed.

I would like to know if it's possible to install, using the oem installation DVD, the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate and, using VMWare Workstation, the 32 bit version from the same installation DVD (without buying another installation key). I'm asking this because I have to use a specialized software running only on a 32 bit version of Windows...

Win 7 64 Bit XP Mode And A Printer With 32 Bit Drivers
Hoping that Win 7 and XP mode will solve this problem: A while back i installed Vista 64 on my gaming system and upon installing my printer (Konica Minolta Page pro 1350w) I found out that there were drivers for it, Konica Minolta won't make 64bit drivers for it and trying to use Generic or similar Konica Minolta modiels with 64bit drivers hasn't worked for me. I have found some who have had success (but they are sharing through a another PC) I have it connected to a USR Router with a Built in usb Print server. I need to keep it this way to maintain its usage.But the question is can I install XP Mode on a 64bit Win 7 setup and use this printer this way?

Where To Buy Upgrade From 64 Bit Vista To 64 Bit Win 7 ?
hello, I currently have a inspiron 531s motherboard with a OEM vista 32bit, I also have a license for vista 64 bit but its an upgrade version, is there any possible way that I can get a w7 upgrade license, I cant afford to buy the full version, I can only afford to get the upgrade version, I was wondering how much it is, a friend of mine purchased a upgrade license from his vista 64 bit to w7 for 50$ I was wondering if there is any way I can possibly do that, I prefer going from my vista 32 bit OEM to w7 64 bit that would be a lot easier but if that wont work I will install my 64 bit vista and go to w7 64 bit, I don't know where to buy the w7 upgrade.

Can I Install Win 7 32-bit On 64-bit Capable Hardware ?
I have two new computers running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I discovered that Vista 64-bit doesn't support some old 16-bit programs; while these old programs are supported in Vista 32-bit. I need the compatibility with older applications more than speed, so, Can I install Windows 7 32-bit on my 64-bit capable hardware? Can I do an upgrade, or must I save and do a new install? Or, please make me happy and tell me Windows 7 64-bit has the same support for ancient 16-bit applications as exists in Vista 32-bit.

Cannot Upgrade From Win Vista 64-bit To Win7 64-bit
I'm running vista home premium 64-bit. and yet every time i run windows 7 set up i get the following compatibility report: Â The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue. You can't upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 64-bit version of the installation disc, or go on-line to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings. 32-bit Windows cannot be upgraded to a 64-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 32-bit version of the Windows installation disc. yes i get both of those 'errors'. the windows 7 IS a 32/64-bit installation disc. it gives me the option to choose x32 or x64 at the start of installation. it just doesn't seem to be detecting my current 64-bit setup for some reason? if i chose to install x32 version, it gives me the "You can't upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows" error. and yet when i choose x64 installation it gives me BOTH errors mentioned above. whats going on here?

Do I Have To Pay For 64-bit Win 7 If I Get 32-bit Free Upgrade ?
I just bought a Toshiba laptop that is eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. Unfortunately, it came with 32-bit Vista and from what I can tell that means I am stuck with 32-bit Windows 7 when I take advantage of my free upgrade. The only reason I got this laptop over another I was looking at was this free Windows 7 upgrade. However, I have 4GB of RAM now and would really like to have 64-bit Windows 7, not 32-bit. So here's my question: Do I have to buy Windows 7 64-bit in order to install the 64-bit version, or is there some way to "sidegrade" with one of these 32-bit OEM free upgrade keys. If not, I am feeling pretty dumb because I could have just gotten the laptop I really wanted and paid for the upgrade to 64-bit like I may have to do anyway. Keep in mind I do not care about having to fresh install as I prefer that anyway.
