View 1 RepliesAbout a month and a half ago, I noticed all my desktop icons were on the left side of the screen in alphabetical order. Turning Auto-arrange off or on does nothing. As soon as I refresh or restart my PC, the icons revert back to the auro-arrange display. We have four user on my PC and oddly enough only my account (which is the admin - not sure if that matters) has the problem. I've read a number of old posts (1-2 years old) that discuss accessing the registry.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter imaging many, many Win 7 systems, we discovered that the Desktop | View | "Auto Arrange" option and "Align to grid" option were off. We want them on (because the computers are in public spaces). Is there a set of registry settings or group policy settings that we can use to turn those options on?I have found that a registry setting([HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellBags1Desktop] "FFlags"=dword:00200220 ) is related to those options, but just changing that key (to "FFlags"=dword:00200225 ) does not do anything. Refreshing the RegEdit screen just changes the value back to its previous value.

I can still change the "Arranged by: ___" to any of these --->Month, Day, rating, tag.And yes, I've tried changing the "Arranged by: ___" to "Folders" but nothing shows up, except the 4 options I just listed
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen my computer goes to sleep after it's on for a while when I move the mouse to get the screen back up it shows the backround no icons or anything to click. Same if I turn it off and turn it back on. I have to turn it off and on many times then go to safe mode and shut down then turn it on again for it to work. Just now I had to turn it on/off 4 times for it to show the icons and task bar. Usually it is left blank with nothing to click having no choice but to turn it off. Norton says no viruses. My computer is HP with windows 7. I bought it in 2011.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is weird... When I arrange a folder by name that is located in My Documents, all the files disappear and refresh doesnt bring them back! I can reproduce it consistently using blank text documents. If I copy that folder and paste it somewhere outside my documents, I can see the contents again. My Documents are mapped to a separate data partition, but Im not sure if that is the problem because if I copy the folder that just got messed up and put it somewhere else on the data partition, the files become visible again.Lastly, why does the menu "arrange by" only appear when Im inside My Documents folder?Ok, Im starting to answer my own question here, but I just noticed that this only occurs when I access My Documents through the libraries link. If I access it through my personal folder link on the start menu, everything is visible again, and the "arrange by" menu isnt visible

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a colleague who is having problems with documents being saved in 'My Documents' but which are then not visible. After consulting our external IT company, we were told it because the 'Arrange By' option in My Documents was set to 'Name' and it should be set to 'Folder'.
My colleague changed this and it solved the problem. However, every day it reverts to the default arrange by 'name' setting, and she has to manually change it to 'folder'.
How do I change the settings so that it arranges by 'folder' by default?
I bought a Asus U36J laptop back in April of last year and ever since then I have been beating around an issue that I dont seem to be able to resolve one way or the other. When ever the laptop is on battery and in battery saving mode it has my taskbar on autohide. If I turn that off, then it stays off right until it is put back into battery saving mode at which point it is "magically" ticked on again.
Is there no way to simply disable that feature, as its annoying me greatly. I know its tied into the battery saving desktop, and I want to keep the battery saving desktop but want a full taskbar all the time. I found a supposed fix to make that happen, and while it actually makes the taskbar appear all the time, it still is a bad hack as any windows I have open wont "attach" to the taskbar but attaches to the buttom of the screen.
So for the love of god is there no sane way for me to keep the battery saving desktop but get rid of the autohiding taskbar. Otherwise I know Asus most likely wont be my laptop of choice next time aroumd.
When I open my library and look at my video files (arranged based on "date modified"), the files that are older than one week are alphabetically listed under "Earlier this week," "Earlier this month" and "Earlier this year." In contrast, when i copy those same files on a memory card (SDHC), they're arranged in true chronological order. I would like the library to show true chronological order (ie not separated by this week, this month, etc), so I could more easily determine which files have been copied over to the media card. How do I do that?

I am using Microsoft Sync and recently I had to use "Run as Administrator" for it because some files were "access denied". (I am using the drive in different operating systems in different partitions).
Should I run Sync in administrator mode, or regular? How should I arrange the security for the drive? Should I add users or everyone? (now it is creator owner, system, administrators and me -I am administrator and only user-).
I got confused because before I didn't need to use the administrator mode for syncing and I don't want it to cause problems when syncing, not to miss any files.
(When I try to give myself -username-pc/username- full control, after that it still returns to not full control, no permissions for the drive are inherited )

View 1 Replies View RelatedSome of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.
