View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a gateway sx2840-01. I need a little more graphics power. It is a slimline low profile set up. I have found a number of cards that would take care of my graphics needs but all seem to require a much larger power supply. Really having a tough time getting advice on upgrading the power. How important is it to have more power?I have 200w; most upgrade video cards require 350w- 600w. Can I get away with what I have? If not, what are the options?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the upgrade of an old Dell 4500S for a friend (whose monitor died, so we started from there) I upgraded the 256MB of memory with 2GB, and upgraded the 20GB hard drive with a 60GB version. The old dead monitor was replaced by a Samsung S20B300B 20" 16x9 LCD whose native resolution is 1600x900. However the old onboard Intel i845g GPU graphics chip in the 4500S (82845G) is supported by old drivers that do not have a 1600x900 resolution option. There is one pretty close rectangular resolution available, 1280x768 but it's a bit cartoonish.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI very recently graduated and as a congratulations, my brother-in-law gave me a brand new Nvidia 9800GTX for my computer. I was running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit when I installed it and I immediately saw a drastic increase in performance. However, when I turned my computer off for the night, I noticed that it would hang at the shut down screen and never actually turn off.Refusing to believe that the new card was at fault, and having next to nothing on my C partition after my most recent formatting, I decided to go ahead and reinstall Windows to hopefully fix the issue. This is where my other problems started in. Suddenly Windows Explorer was crashing whenever I tried to use my disk drive and my system would randomly lock up. After assuming my install went wrong, I tried reinstalling twice more and neither worked. Finally, I got fed up and reinstalled my 32-bit copy of Windows 7 Professional and it still didn't work. As of now I've removed the new card and put my old 9500GT back in to find that I'm not having a single problem with the 9500.

So I looked a bit into this matter and what I have found is that the VLC player that I am using to play the video files runs of the onboard graphics card and not the nvidia 540M card that is also installed in this notebook.

I tried to installed the ones available and my display went black,so i had to start in VGA safe mode to get back the display. Now my default display is VGA since I am not able to find the drivers for my adapter. I also used the original Toshiba M45 recovery cd(where drivers are) and it tells me , wrong operating system since my recovery cd is for Windows Xp instead of Windows 7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe purchased a new laptop after June 26, which gave us information on qualifying for the Windows 7 upgrade when it became available. Well It didn't say FREE, but to qualify you have to have bought between certain dates, show computer info. Show receipts answer yards of question.. Jump hoops.. An no where does it list a price, or ask you to send credit card info, not in email, snailmail, fax etc..
I just got email back asking for my credit card...
We thank you for all the information that you sent to us. However, there is an instance wherein we also need to collect your credit card information in order for us to complete your request for a Windows 7 upgrade kit.
Does not say how much they plan to charge my card.. Have any of you done the toshiba upgrade??

View 3 Replies View RelatedA helped a young lady and her mother purchase a new Toshiba laptop back on 8/8/09. The mother used her credit card to purchase said item.
I helped the young lady send in her Toshiba Windows 7 Upgrade request to Toshiba on the internet. First, I faxed the Proof of Purchase with her Account # (per Toshiba) to Toshiba so they would have it. After about 2 weeks, with no confirmation they received it, I then scanned in the Proof of Purchase and then attached that to account online.
2 days later she was denied her upgrade.
The Proof of Purchase is a copy of the Sales Receipt. From Best-Buy !!
So, the new Toshiba is running Windows Vista Home Premium, bought in August of 09, and I sent them 2 copies of the Receipt !!! Everything they asked for !!!
What else should I do? I looked online at Toshiba, and there are a lot of people upset at Toshiba for denying them also. Some legitimate, a few not so.
I don't know if this is the track record of Toshiba, in luring people into buying their PC's, then backing out of the upgrade for the PC, or not.
So, anyone else having a difficult time with Toshiba about the upgrade? what to do?
I have a windows 7 home premium x64 Toshiba upgrade disc laying around and has not been used as i have a copy of windows 7 ultimate x64 installed on my laptop instead. so i was wondering if there was anyway i could install this on a another computer and do a full install and if it is possible how do i go about doing it?
