Jun 27, 2012
When I use Windows XP Mode virtual machine and leave it unattended for awhile I find that it has timed out when I return. Is anyone aware of whether or not the time out value of XP Mde virtual machine is adjustable. If a registery hack is required

Since UEFI exists, some people talk about BIOS replacement by UEFI in short-term (2011 for exemple) (see "News").Who never has problem with BIOS bugs ? I must fight against several problems on one of my mobos because of its incorrect BIOS code, essentially for long time boot BIOS and very buggy S3 sleep mode.However, when I read many posts about people who have installed their Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode, I'm afraid of some new problems that UEFI causes, according to these people, even during a Windows session, even if installation was fine.I would like to know your experience about UEFI, on motherboards which support it (my motherboard is an Intel DG45ID which proposes UEFI boot).

At the moment I'm not really using an external HD for any purpose, but still have it plugged in, with the software set to put it into sleep mode after 3 minutes if it's not being used. It's actually noisier than my PC so it's something I would rather not have humming away if possible. I have noticed that when I shut down when the HD is not in sleep mode, it shuts down pretty much instantaneously. With the HD in sleep mode, we're talking about a minute. What could be the cause of this? The PC is trying to shut down, and can't see the HD because it's having a nap? Would be nice to know.

Everytime I start playing league of legends, game window is displaced beyond display, I have to use WinSpy everytime to get it to right position, because of other reasons I have to play it in borderless mode
how to make it start in right position? Or in other words, is there something in registry that saves window position? and how do I get to that?

Where can I get the Hex value for different fonts. I am looking for the Hex value for Helvetica Neue so that I can create a registry entry to make it as the default font. I could find the ones for Verdana and Calibri
Calibri = 3c,00,00,00,1f,00,00,f8,00,00,00,00,dc,00,00,00,00,00,00,
00,ff,ff,00,d2,00,22,43,61,6c,69,62,72,69,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
Verdana = 3c,00,00,00,0f,00,00,e8,00,00,00,40,c8,00,00,00,4e,0d,6b,
74,00,00,00,00,00,20,56,65,72,64,61,6e,61,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,

I recently installed 2 new disks, put windows (7) on it and kept the old hdd as a back up, and to just be able to get to my old files should it be necessary. However the question is this: Id love to just move all my games from my old disk to my new one, but I'd need the old registry values. Are they anywhere physically on the old disk? Obviously I can't acces them by regedit, so is there a way to import (parts) of it Or do I have to disconnect the new drives, boot on the old disk and copy what I need?

I allowed the Norton Internet Security folks to have remote access to my netbook and now value of the following keys have been locked in these resets.
[code]...
That appears to be alternate or maybe hotkey settings? Anyway, Norton declines to fix their mess, so I have to muddle through. How to go back to default key values on the keyboard? I'm using Windows 7 on that machine.

I am trying to fix an issue i am having, involving midi control through usb on win 7 64 bit, i think ive finally found a fix, but i am to inexperienced with using the registry editor to do it. Here it is (I edited the registry in the entries for 4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318. There I added a new Multi-String Value "UpperFilters" with data "ksthunk". it pertains to the sound and video game controllers that you can access through the control panel, but i need to be able to find that registry entry(4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318) and then add a new multi-string value(upperfilters) with data ksthunk.

I am running on Windows 7 home premium 64-bit. There is a legalnoticecaption and legalnoticetext enabled in the registry, and when I delete these values and restart, they re-appear! I've even tried deleting them altogether. I'm guessing there is some sort of script enabled that re-writes the registry values upon deletion, and I need some help identifying and getting rid of said script.

About a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).
Therefore, I can't use or edit the program. Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.
Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.
Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine? I am a novice user but I can follow instructions. However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.
I've been using computers for 18 years and I've never had this problem until I bought this software and used it for about a month.
I just wanted a conclusive way of putting the ball back in the manufacturer's court.

I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.
Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.
Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?
P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?

So I bought a new desktop computer about 2 weeks ago and ever since I got it, it's been freezing (locking) up on me at random times. I currently use Windows 7 64-bit. I put in a new graphics card and new memory sticks just the other day and I got the same freezing problem. It's very random. I can be surfing the web and the next thing you know, the whole thing freezes up. I can't move the mouse. Can't do CTRL ALT DEL. Can't do anything. Seems as if the whole computer locks up. The only way to restart the computer is by manually holding in the power button for a few seconds. So since I replaced graphics card and installed new memory, I was thinking it may be something else causing this.

Mouse but mainly keyboard (both Microsoft) are not detected during the cold boot from time to time, i suspect the BIOS is the one to blame i have the latest version, what can i do?Both are USB.When i turn on the PC from time to time a long beep takes place and a message during posting (no keyboard detected). Sometimes happens sometimes not. PS/2 ports didn't work for me, when im using them NOTHING gets recognized (and yes i turned off the PC before plugging them).

the computer I am concerned with is running Windows 7 with IE8, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I am currently in Safe Mode with Networking without issue.The owner of the computer says that something happened earlier today while he was online that sounds like some false antivirus popup, but he's unsure. Here are the symptoms in normal mode. Every application, from moving through them to opening and closing them, runs exceptionally slow - one to three minutes to open, at least a minute to open internet pages. I noticed that, when in IE, as the pages are loading the IE page disappears and reappears. I am not very familiar with Windows 7 so I don't know if it is related. The computer seems to be getting slower as the day goes on. CPU usage is very high.So far, I have disabled many startup items that were unnecessary. I ran CCleaner and cleaned up. MBAM was run in both normal and safe mode, full scans, and found nothing. This is also posted in Viruses and Malware, but I'm unsure where it should live.
