Task Bar, Set It Under Programs
I hate this taskbar in RC x64, I want to set it just like XP and Vista that it can be set to allow other programs to be on top of it. Can that be done ?

Live Dual Programs On Task Bar
I do not like having my programs "group" themselves in the taskbar as I do not run 100 things at once. Since I turned off this option I now have (2) applications running when running Live Messenger. As seen in the picture the (2) programs are "linked" as one when you rollover and use AeroPeek. It appears the left side program is actually a Windows Live application of sorts...and the right side window is of course Live Messenger. I found this annoying personally and am wondering if A) Is it possible to have this go away via an option somewhere if not.... B) Is this a final design decision by MS relating to Windows 7? I think the concept of the windows live application being there for quick access to all things Passport is a good concept I just don't know/want that program cluttering my taskbar. Edit: I've found via another post running Messenger in compatility mode with older windows (Vista SP2) fixes the double programs issue..but still am curious is this dual program is a design choice or bug.

Sometimes The Task Bar Flashing
when i watch video on itunes or real player or minimize the windows messenger the screen flashing, on speciality the task bar, the icons flashing and it stop when i move the mouse over theres........

Adding Folder And Drive Shortcuts To Task Bar
On XP, I would put shortcuts to my different hard drives and folders on the taskbar for quick access. Seems like Windows 7 task bar doesn't let me do this and only allows me to put program files only (yes task bar is unlocked). is there a way to add hard drive and folder short cuts?

Task Bar On Top, Start Menu Is Always Full Screen Height
I prefer my Task Bar across the top of the screen, rather than at the bottom. I also like it to autohide. This is my preference. This seems to work okay but for one thing. When I click the Start button the start menu expands to the full height of the screen, making the thing I'm most likely to want to click on ("All Programs") as far away from my mouse as is possible! I've been told by various fanboys not to crave the Classic start menu any more, as clearly I am a dinosaur for wanting that. Fair enough, I'm trying to use what's given to me by Windows 7. Is there a setting or trick that will allow my Start menu to be only as high as it needs to be? Even if it's only half the height of the screen that will be a relief. And don't say I should move my Task Bar to the bottom, that's not gonna happen.

No History Or Task On Programs
You know one can acces to the recent files/folders on explorer or other programs by right-clicking on them in the taskbar. For some time, I've no more list, nowhere. I've no more history when I right-click on Explorer (or other programs such as Notepad, Paint) in the taskbar. And the tasks associated to programs such as Media Player don't work : I click on them and... nothing. However it's worked properly before. Do you know what is the problem and how to repair ? (I've the impression a registry key is missing or similar problem ).

Start Bar All Programs - Nothing Shows Up
I just upgraded from vista 64-bit to win7 64-bit and I'm having a couple of issues already. first issues i've noticed is that my "all programs" under the windows start button now shows nothing. an empty list... anyone know what might be causing this or how to fix it?? also, after my computer goes into power savings mode, it won't come back from it. another annoying issue...

How Can I Place New Programs On The Start Bar ?
I'm trying to figure this out. I use programs that are not on my local disc, but on a network, on windows servers. I created a shortcut and placed it on my desktop, but now I wan't to have those next to the start button. I am unable to drag them to there, because a red symbol shows up that contains a round and a line through it. When I open the program i normally see "Pin to start menu", but not with this. It only gives me the option to close it.

Can't Search Programs In The Start Bar
I recently installed windows 7, and it generally runs great, but... apparently there is supposed to be a little search bar in the start menu so when you click start you can just start typing to search for a program... but mine doesn't seem to exist. Where can I enable it?

Hidden Programs - Memory Amounts Not Adding Up In Task Manager Or Resource Monitor
Running Winodws 7 RC (7100) all updates installed, running on an i7 (920), GeForce 8800 GTS (640MB) (newest nVidia drivers for Winodws7), 6GB of OCZ 1600 ram, 1TB HDD as main, and so on. So my question comes down to programs using Memory. Back in the days of XP, to my knowledge, if I went though the Memory usage of all the programs in the processes tab, I'd get pretty much the exact amount of physical memory I was using. Thus far, I've been running into some troubles with that in Win7. I first noticed it with XP Mode (more about that in a bit), but then again when something started a memory leak, took up about 95% of my physical memory (no, it had nothing to do with chkdsk), and I tried to track it down... but failed. Looking at everything running in the Task Manager (Yes, "Show processes from all users" is checked), and then upon that failing, looking at everything in the Resource Monitor, no application came REMOTELY close to using up more then 200MB of memory. So... whatever, I restarted, fixed the problem. Looking more into it with use of XP mode, while running in the background (or foreground for that matter) takes up about 1.5GB of additional memory (I've edited my XP mode to give it more memory), so I know exactly what is taking up the memory, I know how much I have... I know how much I have free, and it all adds up in theory.. but yet, still the Task Manager, and Resource manager do not add up. They both say (with all of my normal programs, and XP Mode running) Im using up over 2GB of memory, however, no single program or sum of programs take up that much memory. After google'ing around, and finding astoundingly little (for my tastes anyway) on the matter, I've decided to ask here. I've also checked, Systernals ProcessExplorer, and a few other programs... and none of them will show these mysterious hidden programs... So Im at a loss. Once again, I know whats taking up the memory, and Im not complaining about any type of configuration, or crash, or anything like that, just... if anyone knows where I can find my missing memory? (by missing, I mean, something that shows EXACTLY how much memory WHAT is taking up.). The ONLY thing that came to mind that might have been remotely possible... is if for some reason Virtualized Applications do not show their memory in the task manager...... which is kinda stupid if its true... as its STILL taking up MY resources, and what good is a resource monitor that doesn't monitor what its suppose to..

Set Your Default Programs List - VLC
Anybody knows why I dont have VLC in that list? I've reinstalled a couple of times and it still doesn't show up. I'm not asking this not because I dont know how to set a file association with VLC but just out of curiosity. It should be there right? It was there in my Vista very much. Im on 7 RTM now.

Task Scheduler Won'T Run Task With Idle Condition
When I schedule a task to run Disk Cleanup with a one minute idle condition the task does does not run successfully and provides the following run result. The Task Scheduler service has asked the task to run. (0x41325) If I manually run the task or remove the idle condition the task runs and completes successfully. Why won't the task start with an idle condition?

Set Default Programs: Add A Notepad In The List
Control Panel- > All Control Panel Items- > Default Programs- > Set Default Programs In the list of programs there is a WordPad, and for it is possible to associate the files *.txt instead of a Notepad . BUT the program a Notepad in the list is not present! I should go to: Control Panel- > All Control Panel Items- > Default Programs- > Set Associations. And only from this window associate files with txt extensions to the Notepad program. Notepad it's a Windows part. It would be pleasant to see Notepad in the Set Default Programs list; usability.

Can A Program's Own Settings Override The [Set Default Programs] Option ?
I just upgraded to Windows 7 and I'm trying to figure out how the "default programs" works. Basically, can an external program override the program set in the [Set Default Programs] option? For example, I installed a media application (KMPlayer) that does not show up in the [Set Default Programs] list. Now in the KMPlayer's preferences, there's a setting to associate file types with itself. But when I tried that, I noticed that the files still default to Windows Media Player. So can I assume that no external application can change the program associated with a file type unless explicitly done via the: + [Set Default Programs] or + [Associate a file type ... with a program] or the + [Open with...] options?

End Process / End Task Hang / Not Responding Programs
Is anyone else having the issue where sometimes when a program will hang (either a 3rd party like mozilla firefox/thunderbird or explorer.exe) clicking end task does nothing at all? It is very VERY frustrating. Additionally, when this happens, you are forced to turn off your computer by holding down the power button, because it will never complete the shutdown sequence. I should also note that taskkill /f does NOTHING but reports "success" when you attempt to kill a a program. At the time of this posting, explorer.exe has two instances open in task manager, neither of which I am able to kill with end task, or right click and end process or process tree (although the child programs they spawned that WERE responding when end process was pressed will close). This problem occured in vista as well, but it seems substantially worse in windows 7. I am at a loss, and will have to stop using the OS altogether. I recognize that it could be a driver malfunctioning or something, but the operating system NEEDS to allow you to kill unresponsive processes. explorer.exe has now been stalled and hung for 48 minutes without doing ANYTHING. If this is the wrong sub forum to place this in, please tell me and I will repost in another. Any reply on this would be useful, this problem is about as bad as it can possibly get for an operating system. I am now pressing/holding the power button to shut down. How useless.

No Program Bar
Interesting error. When I get up in the morning I discover the windows bar at the bottom will not show. Once I bring up the task manager via ctrl-alt-del, then close it out, the bar will show again with no further problems. This is a consistent error. I do not let the computer go to sleep. This is Version 6.1.7100 Build 7100 however I have seen this happening since I loaded Windows 7 a week ago.

Explorer 8 Status Bar
I was trying to find out the meaning of the messages that appear on the lower left of the Internet Explorer 8 windows (in the status bar). I was visiting a site (pcguide.com) and I got a weird icon in that spot. I am worried I might have picked up a nasty bug from that site, because I had a hard time closing it (windows kept popping up).

Super Bar Keeps On Flashing
Sometimes I don't know how this happens but when I visit certain site or browse though them my superbar keeps on flashing. So does the top part of the browser or window where the title is stated. Does anyone know why this happens?

Event 41, Task 63,, BSOD
Yes I too am having the same problem If you do a google search for this problem, you will get hundreds of Forums all over the world asking the same question? Power supply problems, Memory configuration problems, hard drive issues, BIOS not up to date, HDMI sound issues ...and on and on it goes,, loose connections on your SATA cables, bad power coming into your house, burned out components on your motherboard.  It is important to note that expert users,, (who know how to set up a BIOS and voltages and such), as well as casual users, are all having this problem,,, all over the world. I apprecitate that people are desprately trying to help ,, its great to see this level of commitment. Microsoft has to step up and wonder what is going on here too. Systems running Intel ,and AMD, proccesors are having the same problems, As well as people running both Nvidia and ATI Graphics cards, on board sound, and Creative labs soundcards, it seems that all hardware configurations have this issue. DID Microsoft fail to take out the time out feature, in it final release to the public,, folks are getting very upset that all of a sudden Windows 7 is failing worse than Vista did,,, many post from other forums are saying that they are going back to Windows XP and 9 year old operating system. I suggest that this is not as often a hardware issue as we are told over and over again, ( and therefore YOUR fault, that WIN 7 does not work), but an ever so slight coding problem that Microsoft missed, and to be fair,,, with an operating system that has to configure to so many different computers all over the world it is possible to miss something. I have even seen post, again, blaming the owners of Windows 7, for being early adopters, and therefore was there fault for hopping on the band wagon and not waiting for the first Service pack to come out before buying the software. I do hope,,, and am sure that Microsoft is working on this problem,, and that it will be rectified soon . After all,,l if this goes on much longer more and more Mainstream Media will pick up on this problem and report it on the News,, (BBC already has) and thereby drive down Microsofts' stock.
