I have a PC running Windows 7 64bit, and a Laptop running windows vista 32 bit (I can install windows 7 on this if necessary).....
I want to set up a system where I can easily sync files from my PC to my laptop.
Is this possible, and if so, how!
I have email accounts set up in Windows Live Mail on my work computer and need to sync those with accounts on my personal. I've created the account on my personal and have received all the emails in my inbox... but is there any way to export and import a whole account so the sub folders are synced too?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop and now find that I can no longer sync (I'm using Syncback SE) over a patch cable between ethernet ports. I had previously been doing this quite effectively on Windows XP and my procedure was.
1. Both computers were in the same workgroup and accessed the same wireless network (secure).
2. Ethernet patch cable - usually showed up in the lower right corner as having 'limited or no access'.
3. Shared my user folder on the laptop (after disabling wireless for security - but this worked whether wireless was disabled or not)
4. Ran Syncback SE ver 4.1.3.0. and synced my files between the laptop and desktop.
Then I bought Win7U for the desktop, and the same procedure as above worked fine between Win7U-desktop and WinXP-laptop.
Then I bought Win7U for the laptop, and what happened next was odd :
1. It worked like a dream - really fast transfers etc, scanning very fast. I think that at this time I had somehow managed to put both in the homegroup but they were communicating over the ethernet.
2. As the sync was taking place I launched ITunes and synced my iPhone. It may be coincidence, but the ethernet cable connection was lost at that point.
3. Now I cannot re-establish the ethernet connection.
What is the correct procedure for achieving what I'm trying to do above ? Why does HomeGroup insist on using my wireless connection instead of using the ethernet cable direct connection ?
<whine on> In my close to 20 years of using Microsoft Windows, why haven't they managed to make two Windows PCs recognise each other and share files quickly and simply, like you can with that other OS.....<whine off>
I have a 2003 SBS server and several users all on Windows 7. One of the users just got a new Sony laptop with Windows 7 Pro, his existing laptop was also Windows 7 Pro.
I am trying to make same file share available offline again and the files sync with no errors in sync center. But when the user goes offline all the files have a red X and the files are partially transparent. All the KB's and threads I can find involved people getting access denied errors, but I'm getting no sync errors.
I tried formatting the offline files database earlier and I made a dozen files available offline. No errors but again red x's when he went offline.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI have SkyDrive on Windows 7 but I have no icon in my toolbar (at the bottom right hand side) just one on my desktop screen. I might have deleted it somehow. But now I notice that my files are not updating when I go to my iPad and launch Windows Live. I go back to make sure fetch is turned on on my desktop SkyDrive, but without an icon, I can't find it or settings, the furthest I get is something about a Group policy might not be allowing it and to see my administrator. I am on a wireless router.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust trying out 7MC on an old build before I move to a new HTPC. However, I'm having a few issues.
1. When playing .avi files, the pictures is ever so slightly out of sync. It's barely noticeable but can be quite annoying. I some suggestions about changing settings in the sharks codec options, however this made the .avi unplayable. Anyone got any ideas on this? (I am playing from network storage btw)
2. When playing .mkv files, I have to crank the sound right up on my TV. If I play .avi files, it's completely fine, but .mkv files need the TV putting to the maximum volume. Anyone know why this would be? I have the shark codec packs installed.
3. My PS3 up scales content for my TV screen, however, when playing this same content on 7MC, the quality doesn't look anywhere near as good as the PS3. Anyone know why this is? Are there settings I should be doing to support up scaling (if possible)? I am using Media browser to browse to these files. The colours also don't look that great, is it possible it could be the HDMI cable (even though I thought HDMI quality didn't really matter too much). Could it also be an overscan issue?
4. Media Browser metadata has managed to recover metadata for all but two of my movies. I think the problem is that the proper movie titles have a : in them, and obviously you can't put these in a folder name. Is there anyway around this?
5. Media Browser has only been able to recover metadata for one of my TV shows. All of my other TV shows are structured the same way, but no metadata is recovered.
6. Is there anyway I can apply a view option to all of the screens in Media Broswer. For instance, when trying to decide the season of the program, can I set them all to look like the 'detail' option in the skin, or do I have to do each one manually?

I have several windows 7 computers networked on a LAN without a server - just workgroups. I do use one computer to "serve" shared folders though. I use Offline Files to keep files on a wireless laptop synchronised with the "server" and centralise all backup activities on the "server". I want to enable Background Sync and Transparent Caching for a more stable setup although these options appear to only be available to domains. Is there any way I can enable these options without setting up a full server and domain?

I've used laptops before but I don't have one now. Now, I have an HP desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64, Firefox, etc., and I'm entirely satisfied with it. I use a satellite hard wired internet connection because where I live that's the only game in town.
My question is: once I go on the road with the laptop, what would I need, either software or hardware, either on the road with me or at home or both, so that I could keep files stored on my desktop HD (e.g., Excel files I've built at home and I want to keep up to date) in sync automatically with the same files stored on my HD on my laptop? I.e., if I work on a file on the laptop, and I make changes to it, I DO NOT have to make the same changes to the desktop file once I get back home, cuz it stayed in sync with whatever I did while I was using the version on the laptop on the road.
I'm trying to set up two way sync between some files on my laptop and a network drive so that changes made to either the copy on the network or on my laptop get propagated to each other. I've read the instructions for setting up an "offline file" sync, which is a one way sync. The instructions usually mention that it's possible to set up a two-way sync, but they never actually describe how to do it.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm running a windows 7 home premium 64 bit, and for some movies, the video will start in-sync for about 40 minutes, then slowly get farther and farther out of sync, making watching the video un-watchable after another 10 minutes. but it does not do this with all video types. it also does not do this with netflix, Internet, or anything else online.
i'm running a geforce gtx 660m, all drivers are up to date. the files that work are: mp4, files that don't work are: mkv, avi
those are the only files i have tried. it's done this since i got this computer a couple months ago
Three Computers on a home network. Desktop in Office (Windows 7) . Wife's Laptop (Windows 7). My laptop ( Vista unfortunately). Norton Security Suite and all three. I have a network setup and a Homegroup established.
Everything was setup and working so that I could share files between all three. My wife was able to open a desktop file make changes and save it back to the desktop computer.
All of that changed. Now we get a message when trying to save the file. "You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission".
I have given the entire "MY Documents" sharing permission to everyone. I have checked everything. I have looked over all kinds of forums and nothing has worked.
I am to the point of doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my Desktop.
I got 1 old laptop and a new laptop. Is there any very fast and efficient way to transfer some of my old laptop files that i want to transfer to this new laptop?

Transferring large files takes a long time when you have to copy it to an external HDD and then back again onto another PC so i am hoping that if i get this working it will solve my problem.I have tried multiple things like Homegroups and setting the sharing permissions on files to allow me to access them but neither of these options work, i even followed the guide for the later attempt that is posted in a thread further down on this forum.When it comes to the homegroup i set up the homegroup on my laptop (by following a guide someone wrote on this forum) but when i go to access the hoemgroup on my desktop it does not say that there is a homegroup already on the network to access, and yes both computers are on the same wireless network.When it comes to the sharing permissions i follow the PDF also found on this forum to the letter but when it comes to going onto my desktop, opening the network screen my laptop is just not there.

Both of them are connected ia WI-FI to a router which is connected to another router which is outside and connected to WIFI source a few km away ... Anyway, I have a question. I want to share files bewteen these two computers. Each of them have IP which was added to them by the router. When I try to ping the router I do not a problem but when I try to ping 1 computer 192.168.0.153 from the other computer 192.168.0.154 it says: destination host unreachable. I've followed many tutorials online to no avail. I don't know much about networking or file sharing so there's my first downfall. I've tried setting up a home group on my main PC but the join home group option is grayed out on the laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought an Alienware laptop with windows 7 home premium 64bit. As soon as I got it, I connected it to my network and attempted to access my shared files, but it wouldn't detect any of my computers on the network. I have an iMac with Snow Leopard, sharing a few hard drives, & an old Qosmio with Windows XP Media Center Edition, sharing one hard drive. The iMac and Qosmio both detect each other with no issues, sharing files has never been better. I don't remember doing anything special, other than sharing files, on Windows XP, for the files to be present on other devices. On Snow Leopard, I added the XP account, & the Windows 7 account. I enabled sharing files, specifically, AFP & SMB.
And then checked both XP & Windows 7 accounts to assure accessibility. The Group (Workgroup) is the same across all 3 devices. XP detects my iMac & can access the files, & the iMac can detect XP & access the files. Now, my iMac can sometimes detects the Alienware/Windows 7, but since I'm not sharing any files/folders on it, it can't access it. My main problem(s): Windows 7 never detected XP. Once, Windows 7 detected & accessed all files on the iMac, but after shutdown/restart (Possibly updating Windows 7 to Service Pack 1), Windows 7 does not detect or show any computer on the network folder other than itself.
If I turn on "PS3 Media Server" on the iMac, Windows 7 detects it, but when I open it, it takes me to Windows Media Player, which then tells me that the PS3 Media server is empty. On Windows 7, Advanced Sharing Settings, "Home or Work" network settings (I'm have my network set to "Home Network"), Network Discover is ON. File & f=printer sharing is ON. Public Folder Sharing is On. Media Streaming is On. File sharing connection is set to 40- or 56-bit encryption. Password protected sharing is Off. HomeGroup connections is set to "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers". I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, if that matters. XP has it as well.
I'm using a desktop running Windows 7 (soon to be 8) Ultimate. My target computer is a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
If I download a file, is it possible for me to set a download destination directly to the laptop if I initiate the download from the desktop? The computers will be on the same network and part of a Homegroup (if that matters). I'd like to create a folder on the desktop screen of the laptop, and have the files end up there.
Alternatively, I suppose I could have the file download to the desktop computer, and then I could wirelessly transfer it over via the Homegroups, but moving 1-2GB files would probably suck bandwidth and increase system resources on my end.
EDIT: Is this also possible with a second desktop computer as well? (One primary client, and two satellite computers).
I have two computers currently running Windows 7.
-On both computers, I use an account with administrator privileges
-On both computers UAC is set at the default level.
For some reason, on one computer I am capable of saving files on the C drive without having to run a program with UAC, but on the other computer this does not work. Similarly, if I right click on a program in my C drive and click "Create Shortcut" I receive the message "Windows can't create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?" What I'm trying to convey by point this out is this is not a problem that I have with a particular program, but an issue I'm experiencing with the operating system in general.
Whenever I Click on the folder of next network computer on Network of my Computer then it says 'windows cannot access to saurav-pcphotoshop" both the computers are mine.. how can i share that file between these two computers?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP desktop running Windows 7 Professional, and a Lenovo laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. I am having the following problem on both computers:
I cannot drag and drop files to a blank CD on either machine. If I put a blank CD-R (or CD-RW) in the drive, then open Computer, then click on the CD's icon, I get an error message: "Windows can't read the disc in drive E: Make sure that the disc uses a format that Windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted, you need to format it before using it."If I right click, then click "Open," or "Open with," I get the same message. There are no options to format the disk.
I have tried uninstalling the drive through device manager, then rebooting and letting the computer find and reinstall it, but that does not solve the problem. I have tried running the Troubleshooter, but it finds nothing wrong.
Two interesting things to add to all this: First, My wife's Toshiba laptop works fine. I can take the exact same blank CD that my 2 computers cannot write to, put it in her's and drag and drop files to it just fine.
Second, All three computers can then read that CD, and any others that were written on her computer.

All desktop icons when clicked go to "notepad" and "notepad" showing for everything to the left except for internet explorer. I have tried restore 6 times but it just comes back with. Bottom right hand icons still normal...files can be accessed through start docs. pics, etc. I have backed up to a remote drive all files for safety but just cannot get system or files to restore.System restore did not complete successfully. Your computors files and settings were not changed.Details System restore failed while restoring the registry from the restore point.
