Offline Files Background Sync Without Domain?

Jul 2, 2011

I have several windows 7 computers networked on a LAN without a server - just workgroups. I do use one computer to "serve" shared folders though. I use Offline Files to keep files on a wireless laptop synchronised with the "server" and centralise all backup activities on the "server". I want to enable Background Sync and Transparent Caching for a more stable setup although these options appear to only be available to domains. Is there any way I can enable these options without setting up a full server and domain?

Offline Files Sync But All Have A Red X?

Apr 16, 2012

I have a 2003 SBS server and several users all on Windows 7. One of the users just got a new Sony laptop with Windows 7 Pro, his existing laptop was also Windows 7 Pro.

I am trying to make same file share available offline again and the files sync with no errors in sync center. But when the user goes offline all the files have a red X and the files are partially transparent. All the KB's and threads I can find involved people getting access denied errors, but I'm getting no sync errors.

I tried formatting the offline files database earlier and I made a dozen files available offline. No errors but again red x's when he went offline.

Offline Folder Sync - Windows 7 Client Server 2003

Jan 15, 2013

I am having an issue with offline files created offline syncing back to the server. I have set up a network share to be available offline on a client computer. All files are available offline without issue. Here is the issue however. If I set the folder to work offline any file I create in the folder when it is offline just disappears when the folder comes back online, there are no conflicts or sync failures reported in sync center. If I create a new folder offline the folder does sync back to the server. Any changes made to an existing file are also replicated back to the server once the share is back online. So the issue is only with newly created files when the share is offline. I have not been able to replicate this error on any other file server in our environment, However I have recreated the issue with multiple shares with multiple Win 7 clients on this file server.

Steps taken so far.
- Checked and reset permission levels on the share.
- Recreated new shares from scratch for testing.
- Disabled and enabled offline files on the client computer and cleared the offline cache.
- Check various registry entry settings.
- Disabled cashing on the File server.
- Tested with XP the issue does not exist with XP.

The clients are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. The File server is Server 2003 Standard 32 bit with SP2.

Windows 7 And Offline Files: Exclusion Files Type Not Work

Oct 10, 2012

I have a problema with windows 7 professional (64 bit, sp1), and offline files.I'm trying the functionality of offline files with a NAS network (WD my book live).Specifically, I do not want to synchronize files with certain extensions (.nef and .cr2). With gpedit.msc in Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> Offline Files, I enabled "exclude files by caching", entering (in the appropriate field), *.nef; *.cr2 But the files with this extension are synchronized anyway.

Offline Files Doesn't Update Files Changed Locally

Feb 5, 2010

My offline files seems to work offline all the time, even when it shows me being online. I sync most of my business files to my laptop for working at home at night. When I edit a file from my Win 7 (pro, 64-bit) laptop, then go to edit it again, I get the version I had changed, but no one else does. This is causing huge difficulty, because my employees will start working in a sales forecast spreadsheet after I reconnect to the network and supposedly sync, but they don't get the latest version. Even doing a manual sync seems to make no difference.

Accidentally Deleted Offline Files

Oct 23, 2012

I used a solution I found online because I saw my colleagues files were all offline, she was also not communicating with the domain properly, once I got her back on the domain, the offiline files were there, so I used the solution to clear that up and get her back on a proper network drive. The BIG problem is that the stuff on the network drive was not current, and since I cleared the offline files, they were all deleted and now she has been set back as a result of this. I want to know if there is ANY ways to recover these files...I used the following solution in order to clear it up...

Offline Files (2 Laptops, And Network Storage)

Jun 17, 2009

Ok here's what I am trying to do.

I have two laptops one Windows 7 (7127 x64) the other XP Pro(at the moment), and a Maxtor Family Storage II Network Drive.

I have the same profile setup on all three items.

I want all of the files in my library that I have on my Windows 7 machine to be copied over to the Maxtor Network drive.

Then I want the XP machine to copy the files from the Network to its self using the Offline option in XP.

Im trying to have the Maxtor drive keep the most resent copy of any file I modify on either laptop. That way when I take one of them with me when I return to my home it will sync up with the Maxtor drive and update those files always keeping the newest copy.

I would like to do this without having to add any third party software if I can. I have been trying for days to get this to work and it fails to copy any files to any of the other drives. If someone has a link to a Tutorial or anything that would help me get this that would be great.

Can't Get Fetch To Work To Sync Files With SkyDrive

But now I notice that my files are not updating when I go to my iPad and launch Windows Live. I go back to make sure fetch is turned on on my desktop SkyDrive, but without an icon, I can't find it or settings, the furthest I get is something about a Group policy might not be allowing it and to see my administrator. I am on a wireless router.

When Playing .avi Files / Pictures Is Ever So Slightly Out Of Sync

Jan 14, 2012

Just trying out 7MC on an old build before I move to a new HTPC. However, I'm having a few issues.

1. When playing .avi files, the pictures is ever so slightly out of sync. It's barely noticeable but can be quite annoying. I some suggestions about changing settings in the sharks codec options, however this made the .avi unplayable. Anyone got any ideas on this? (I am playing from network storage btw)

2. When playing .mkv files, I have to crank the sound right up on my TV. If I play .avi files, it's completely fine, but .mkv files need the TV putting to the maximum volume. Anyone know why this would be? I have the shark codec packs installed.

3. My PS3 up scales content for my TV screen, however, when playing this same content on 7MC, the quality doesn't look anywhere near as good as the PS3. Anyone know why this is? Are there settings I should be doing to support up scaling (if possible)? I am using Media browser to browse to these files. The colours also don't look that great, is it possible it could be the HDMI cable (even though I thought HDMI quality didn't really matter too much). Could it also be an overscan issue?

4. Media Browser metadata has managed to recover metadata for all but two of my movies. I think the problem is that the proper movie titles have a : in them, and obviously you can't put these in a folder name. Is there anyway around this?

5. Media Browser has only been able to recover metadata for one of my TV shows. All of my other TV shows are structured the same way, but no metadata is recovered.

6. Is there anyway I can apply a view option to all of the screens in Media Broswer. For instance, when trying to decide the season of the program, can I set them all to look like the 'detail' option in the skin, or do I have to do each one manually?

I have my library sorted like Movies > Film (year) > file.avi and TV Shows > Show Name > Season # > S01E03..System spec is Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, 4GB DDR2 Crucial Ballistix 1066MHZ RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card (using HDMI).

How To Keep Desktop And Laptop Files In Sync While On The Road

Sep 14, 2012

I'm entering a new role that will take me on the road more than before. I'm shopping for a laptop to take with me to check email, etc., while I'm away from home. I've used laptops before but I don't have one now. Now, I have an HP desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64, Firefox, etc., and I'm entirely satisfied with it. I use a satellite hard wired internet connection because where I live that's the only game in town.

My question is: once I go on the road with the laptop, what would I need, either software or hardware, either on the road with me or at home or both, so that I could keep files stored on my desktop HD (e.g., Excel files I've built at home and I want to keep up to date) in sync automatically with the same files stored on my HD on my laptop? I.e., if I work on a file on the laptop, and I make changes to it, I DO NOT have to make the same changes to the desktop file once I get back home, cuz it stayed in sync with whatever I did while I was using the version on the laptop on the road.

Upon doing so, was asked to re-boot.On re-booting, the adminstator login password had resorted back to the one when setup originally?? As my normal password was not being accepted. I must add - I NO LONGER WORK FOR SAID COMPANY AND HAVE NO WAY OF ACCQUIRING PASSWORD/NETWORK/DOMAIN ACCESS DETAILS ANYMORE!I then used the windows password unlocker tool (20 paid) to gain access back to my laptop. Obviously now realising a lot of very important information, emails, all desktop icons & file locations were no longer where they were supposed to be I spent an hour searching everywhere... The hard drive is still saying it has 150gigabyte of use & certain files display more data in 'properties' than is actually displayed in the folder itself. After doing a little research it looks like all my files, emails etc are in this imaginery 'domain' that I am now unable to access at all & no longer have the details to re-join again! A few files are still dotted around where they are supposed to be but a lot no longer accessable. With no access details to re-join this domain, is there any way AT ALL of re-claiming these files? Any 3rd party software, hard drive recovery software? Easiest way,

Deleting Domain User Accounts, Profiles, And Files

Mar 12, 2010

Im a new user of Windows 7, just turned it on for the first time a few days ago, but Im pretty familiar with the setup since Ive used Vista for over a year now. This Windows 7 machine that I just turned on a few days ago is a new work machine for another employee here at my place of work. Ive gone ahead and already added it to our domain, and Ive signed onto it using multiple user accounts that were created in our Active Directory. My question is, how can I go about deleting those Domain User Accounts, Profiles, and Files off of this Windows 7 computer? Ive already made the mistake of deleting the user folder in the C:Users folder, just to find out that if I deleted a user and tried to sign back on as that user (thinking it would create a new profile folder in C:Users), it created a temporary profile.

In the past when using XP all I would normally have to do is delete the user profile folder in C:Documents and Settings and I was able to sign back in as that user and have a new profile created.

For some reason when I turned it on this morning it went into startup repair and said the Event Name: StartupRepairOffline.I have tried using system restore to 3 different points (2 of them before Bioshock 2 was installed and 1 being system restore point from yesterday). After I do any of them the computer restarts then does exactly the same thing again saying that I have don't system restore at all (as the 3 restore options are still available)
