Feb 5, 2013I have a video card that used to boot up in windows 7 - but know this computer with a GeForce 9500GT video card boots up with the Vista boot up logo.I found out this was the video card because I have another card with another GeForce video.I took the swapped the video cards, and the indication changed. The original computer booted with the windows start up screen. And the test computer booted up with the vista boot up screen.
I was told by a local computer repair facility this had something to do with video drivers.I tried what the organization suggested and uninstalled all video drivers (I used generic Windows 7 Video Drivers).Then the organization recommended downloading the latest video drivers for the GeForce 9500GT.This video card has 512GBytes of memory. I did this.Then I was told to install the newly downloaded video drivers.I resrted the computer with the Vista login screen with windows 7 operating system,and the vista login screen was displayed.
Windows 7 Failed To Start - Repair Or Start Normal?
Dec 28, 2011Last night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.

Nov 3, 2012My dell n5030 laptop isnt getting past the windows start up screen. It boots up fine up to the part where the four balls become the windows logo, but then freezes there everytime. When i try to select the windows start up repair it blacks out the screen and I cant do anything.
I know its not a faulty hard drive because its newly fitted and this problem occured previously on a different hard drive aswell.

Oct 18, 2012I have Windows Ultimate (x64).I use the Asus Suite II supplied with my Asus Asus P8Z68-V Pro Gen3 Motherboard (which I like for fan and temperature monitoring) Ai Suite II always loads BUT "on screen" it is messy during loading because a seemingly AI Suite bar sized white artefact appears top left of screen for 10- 20 seconds before disappearing when the AI suite icon appears in the notification tray. Sometimes a white square also appears temporarily.I have noted that if I exit Ai Suite II and reload via the Asus AI suite supplied Shortcut I never get these artefacts AND the suite loads instantaneously (I note however Asus uses AI Suite II.exe via the shortcut but via the Asus installed Task Schedule it open via "AsRoutineController.exe -open"I have also tried unloading AI Suite II and AsRoutineController.exe and loading AsRoutineController.exe and it too loads cleanly and almost instantaneously.
1) Why does Asus use the Task scheduler instead of loading via the normal Windows Startup procedures?
2) Could it be so each can be easily disabled if required) and is that the ONLY reason?
3) what is the -open switch in the command line?
4) Is there ANY good reason why I should not disable the AI Suite II in the Task Scheduler and add it the the Normal Windows Startup applications I use the Free version of Startup Delayer as it has served me wonderfully with my current Win 7 O/S (and my previous XP) in ensuring all desired Notification Tray Icons display EVERY time).
Today I PROVISIONALLY made the change and AI Suite II opens cleanly (as other Startup apps) without temporary white artefacts and with no noted side effects so far. I am nervous however, to make it permanent without advice from knowledgeable Seven Forums members on this subject

Mar 7, 2012Monday couldn't boot up PC, had to go to system recovery and restore to previous day.
Log files show below that 4 things failed to load. Tuesday couldn't boot up PC again.. tried to restart like 4-5 times.. Finally comes up and in the logs there's numerous things that failed to load. Running a sfc /scannow right now.

I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.

So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again.The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine.

Jul 1, 2012When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.

Sep 3, 2012I have an error that system32/hall.DLL is missing so I put in my windows 7 DVD ( I Have 4 DVDs for my windows, gateway, I always put the first one) so I could start start-up repair but when the windows files is loaded it keeps starting recovery mangment which gives me options to recover my hard drive to factory defaults (ie delete files on c and reinstall windows) ,why I don't get options to choose startup repair, how can I get it to start start-up repair?

Aug 6, 2012I've been sorting through forums, and have opt'd out to just asking. I have: Windows 7 - 64bit, Hp pavilion dv7-4265dx laptop, AMD Phenom II, with the newest Bios available on Hp Support website.I need: My WD 3TB Cavalier external to be readable on my windows machine. (Just bought it from newegg.)
The drive letter will not show itself under my computer, so I cannot format quickly; which isn't terrible, because I plan to encrypt it with Truecrypt. But both Truecrypt and Easeus are only able to detect 2TB, not the full 3. I have even gone to cmd and ran diskscan, but that will only show 2TB. I understand that it's a whole disk size issue; but I've read that some people see two separate partitions, that equal 3, but I don't even get that.
[Update] I converted the new unallocated drive to GPT in disk management. Right click drive > convert to GPT Disk... it increased the drive from 2048GB to 2047.87GB.
Install Windows 7 On An External HD?
Dec 27, 2011I am going to build my own PC soon, but I'm going to keep my current hard drive and use it for my new PC. I have a 500GB external HD as backup, my question is could I install a copy of Windows 7, and use that to boot from with no hard drive in PCI want 2 PCs in my house one to use for stricly backup purposes. My plan is to put a wireless card in my old PC - share a folder - and constantly put files, videossongs, etc... into that folder so it gets backed up on the external HDMy next question is, if I am able to boot with the external HD, can I use the external HD on different PCs? Not to boot Windows - but just to recover files?

It appears in 'devices and printers', where it has been given a driver, but has no drive letter on the 'computer' page. The disk is spinning and the unit gave no trouble in the past.

Mar 25, 2011I have posted in other forums with no luck.I bought a Samsung SH-D162D DVD Drive in a USB enclosure to connect to my Toshiba laptop via USB.I cannot get windows 7 to find it! When I plug in the USB cable the balloon comes up to say it has been installed (sometimes), I can see it on for about 1 or 2 minutes then it drops off. It isnt listed in my hardware or anything.Its not found in Disk Management or My Devices so it isnt a case of changing the drive letter - i cant find the drive to change it.I have also tried to find the upper and lower settings in regedit....couldnt find them so couldnt delete them as advised in other posts of this nature.It is set to master, the IDE connector and power connectors are fine. Its gotta be a windows 7 problem cause it does show up very breifly. In the minute or 2 its there I cant do anything with it...it just hangs although it will open and close. Ive googled it and cant find anything.Ive also connected it up to another laptop with XP and had no problems so I know the DVD Rom works fine and all the cables are ok.Ive tried in all 4 USB ports on my laptop and also turned off all energy settings...all with no luck. And I also have EVERY windows 7 update.
Heres exactly what happens from power off on the enclosure.
1 - I plug in the USB lead then turn on power to the enclosure.
2 - I quickly go to Start, and I can see the DVD Rom drive E next to my laptops dvd rom.
3 - The green bar at the top starts filling up from left to right and gets about half way then suddenly the DVD Rom icon disappears and so does the green bar.
4 - It then flashes up under the laptops DVD Rom icon with a Local Disk drive E but only for a split second.
5 - Sometimes a balloon comes up saying installing device, then device successfully installed...but not every time.

Nov 27, 2011I have two external USB2 HDs. Whn I click on the Safely Remove HW tray in Windows 7 Ult 64-bit, HD-1 is shown, and I can remove it, but HD-2 is not shown, and therefore I cant remove it.
But HD-2 does show on the Safely Remove HW tray in XP. Same computer, btw. Am I ok to just shut down the HD, or may I run into trouble by doing that? I learned the hard way a few years ago that you can't do that with drives attached to Mac OSX. why that HD would not show up in Windows 7, when it does in XP?
