Some Programs Will Only Work If Run As Admin

Aug 20, 2012

I upgraded my system three weeks ago and swapped out the mobo, CPU, RAM and hard drive.Because of this, I did a fresh install of Windows 7 on the new 120Gb SSD.Last week, I noticed that some programs will only run if I right click and run as an administrator. for reference, when I try to double left clik to run nothing happens. No cursor change, no spike in CPU/RAM activity, nothing at all.I have a few storage drives upon which I install all non-system programs and the odd thing is that any program that predates the new install of Windows 7 will run absolutely perfectly if I left click as normal. Any program installed after the upgrade will only work if I right click and run as admin.I've run MBAM, BitDefender, AdAware and Nod32 and there are no viruses that I can find.I thought it might be that the computer has lost the association for .exe programs but that isn't the case if older programs run fine from a left click.

Sound Drivers = Only Able To Run Programs As Admin

Oct 4, 2009

When I install the drivers for my HTO Striker 7.1 and restart to complete driver installation, suddenly, I can only run anything if I right click and Run as Administrator.. not even Firefox. Its annoying to have to get the gray User Access Control screen everytime I want to do something, as well as having to right click and left click just to start a program.

HTO Striker 7.1 drivers on their site are listed as being good for Windows 7 x64.

What could be happening here? Has anyone had this problem?

Scheduled Programs At Startup That Need Admin Rights?

Jun 17, 2012

When I start Windows, programs that need administrator rights don't start as they did before. Before I describe the problem I'm having I would like to state that I searched and found similar problems all over the web, but not any solutions that worked for me. Now let's get on with the problem. The situation is as follows: programs that need admin rights and which I set to run at log on (like PeerBlock and TopWinPrio) don't start automatically anymore. I don't get a UAC message, I get nothing, they just don't launch.A few days ago everything worked fine. Since then I've run CCleaner and Gamebooster 3.5b. I did clean the registry with CCleaner but used the backup of the registry CCleaner made after I noticed this behavior (so I think the registry clean with CCleaner could not be the issue). I've also used the 'normal clean' function of CCleaner, maybe this caused the problems?

I think the problems have something to do with messed up admin rights on my account. The programs startup fine when I disable UAC, but I'd rather not do thatAlso, when I log onto the administrator account, the programs startup fine. I can start the programs manually after I'm logged in, but I'd rather have them startup automatically.I've tried the following to solve it:- sfc / scannow command - did not solve it- check if my account has admin rights - as far as I can see this is the case- look for restore points - this is stupid, I know, but it seems I have deleted them with either Tuneup or CCleaner

No Programs Will Start, Unless Started From Task Manager In Admin Mode

May 18, 2011

I booted my computer today, but when I click any program in my taskbar, or int the start menu, they dont open. In the task manager they are there, but their working set is only 40-90K. Some programs can be started from file->new process, with run as administrator checked, but I cant see any pattern to which will start. If a process doesnt start from task manager, it freezes task manager, and I need to open another the end it. If I start a program pinned to my taskbar nothing will happen: The icon will get the running program rectangle around it, then it will fade away. If I right click a program in the start menu, the start menu and taskbar freeze, and I need to restart them from the task manager. I can run cmd from task manager. Ive rebooted multiple times, defragmented the disk(that fixed it last time this happened, but it may have been a cooincidence), run chkdsk, but nothing works. To make it wierder, if I press the hotkeys on my keyboard (browser, mail, etc), the program will start up fine, even if it cant be launched from task manager(firefox)

EDIT: While I was typing this I was running sfc /scannow , and that fixed it, but Id still like to know why. This is the second time this has happened, and both times its taken me most of the day to fix it, and both time different things fixed it

Some Programs Will Not Work In The Windows 7?

Aug 17, 2010

My computer stopped yesterday and it was almost 7 years old, so I decided to buy a new one. I did it and I got KOMPAQ presario PC CQ5521f AMD, with win 7 home premium 64 bit, and 640 Gb hard drive and 3 GB of memory. Everything works great except some programs will not work in the windows 7, but they work well on XP. Now, I made one partition of 82 GB on C drive and I transferred the image of XP, which I had on an external hard drive and it was an excellent working XP. Now, I would like to have dual booting. I like to boot or XP or win 7. It does boot just win 7 and does not see added partition. What can I do to have dual booting?

Programs Don't Work After A Computer Issue?

Nov 29, 2012

I left my computer on for a while and it went into power saving/sleep mode. I thought it was actually turned off so i turned it on but then it made repeated short beeping noises. I then turned it off from the plug then back on. Now with the computer running normally, i try to open up some of my regular programs such as Windows Live Messenger, Google Chrome and Steam but there are errors when opening them up. Some other programs are working fine such as skype and uTorrent. When i try to open Chrome, it says "Google Chrome has stopped working" immidiately. It doesn't even give a flash of the interface. It goes directly to Google Chrome has stopped working. With Steam it says "There was a problem with your Steam installation. Please reinstall steam".Windows Live Messenger says "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application. Same with Chrome, it goes directly to the Error box.In the beginning before i started having the issues, all my programs were working fine.I tried restarting my computer. System Restore unfortnately has no restore points. Defragged my computer.Haven't fully tried Error Checking yet because it takes a VERY long time.

Is it most likely that my files are corrupted? If so, is there a program i can use to fix corrupted files before i attempt to use the built in utility Error Check from windows? Also i need to use Internet Explorer since firefox won't open after i installed it. Help me and save me from Internet Explorer LOL.Not even sure why Internet Explorer works Just opened iTunes and it says "iTunes was not installed correctly. reinsrall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 193)"

Add And Remove Programs Doesn't Work Period

Mar 1, 2011

So since the other day, Add And Remove programs has given me some trouble. Basically, when I went to the start Menu to work it, it didn't open up until I made a shortcut for the Desktop. And then it gave me the message that in all programs, to be blunt it couldn't find it- while I can't access it now, it said it couldn't find the program and asked me if I wanted to Admin Remove it from the list- this did nothing. And now, again, it doesn't work period. I've tried a system restore, but going back the farthest I can, it still doesn't work. Is it possible to completely reinstall Add And Remove Programs, or somehow fix it?

After Update Windows 7 Starts Up Just Fine But No Programs Work

Dec 15, 2011

This may be difficult to troubleshoot because I have very few details about the computer in question. A friend called me because I am fairly good with basic computer problems. I'm not sure of the hardware specs, but it's a 2010 or 2011 model PC with Windows 7 installed. They did a Windows Update, and let it update just fine - they did not restart or shut down at all during the update. Once the update completed however, they can't open anything up.

Every time they try opening a program, they get an error message. Also, he mentioned that at first after the update, it wouldn't even boot up. He would get a message saying that he needs to restore to system defaults. Somehow, they got the computer to boot but it wont open any programs. How do you reset a Windows 7 computer to factory settings?

Few Programs Don't Run On Admin Account But Only On 2nd Account

Apr 14, 2011

I run Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio, and never had issues.recently I had this situation where some software doesn't run properly on my main account (admin) but only in a secondary account I had created the software is installed without problems, but then it fails to run properly as an example I have a small car speed detector which has a software to download journeys. it doesn't run as it should on the main account no matter what I try. similarly i bought a Sony Bloggie and its portable software as well as the main software that came with it don't work properly, but they do on the other account, so I (annoyingly) have to switch users, and run the software there, and then go back to my main account.I suspect some anti-virus or other stuff from my main account is "blocking" things somehow. I also had a number of instances where I get alerts like "windows cannot open this file for security reasons". I have tried to change security settings, firewall settings but nothing worked.there was a general security level that required admin status to lower, yet although I obviously am admin, windows wouldn't allow me to do.

Error: All Programs And Taskbar Icons Turned White, Don't Work?

Feb 24, 2012

Error: All task bar icons (not them to the right) and all icons in the program listhave turned white, and pressing them leads to nowhere, instead a window asks what programI want to open. This makes navigation quite difficult, because I have to open each program in theprogram file folders. Error occurred this way:Media player vlc ran flawlessly for quite a while, I think it was v.1.11.11.Then suddenly vlc captured all icons that is all icons became vlc icons, and allicons being pressed would open vlc.At that time I was able to uninstall vlc, and all icons were back to normal. Then I used vlc portable for some time, and icons were OK.For some reason I tried to install a vlc nightly build, and again all icons became vlc icons. And this time I couldn't find a way to uninstall the vlc properly. So I found vlc rogram folders here and there and deleted them. That removed vlc, but all icons
now turned white, and didn't work.

Windows 7 Freezes / Loaded Programs Does Not Work - Fine In Safe Mode

Jun 5, 2012

My computer runs like grease lightning in safe mode, and my internet speeds are marvellous also, but alas when not in safe mode I have on quite a few occasions lately had my Windows freeze, my Windows Live Mail also freeze. I will define freeze, everything just does not work, my browser Firefox/Google, none of my loaded programs.

I have to leave the computer for about 10 minutes, and then it is perfect all day!, so I am guessing a program is causing the dilemma, but which one? I have about 60 applications running and I haven't loaded a new one in about 6 months. Is there a program I can purchase/download that would seek out the rogue program if indeed it is a rogue program.
