I left my computer on for a while and it went into power saving/sleep mode. I thought it was actually turned off so i turned it on but then it made repeated short beeping noises. I then turned it off from the plug then back on. Now with the computer running normally, i try to open up some of my regular programs such as Windows Live Messenger, Google Chrome and Steam but there are errors when opening them up. Some other programs are working fine such as skype and uTorrent. When i try to open Chrome, it says "Google Chrome has stopped working" immidiately. It doesn't even give a flash of the interface. It goes directly to Google Chrome has stopped working. With Steam it says "There was a problem with your Steam installation. Please reinstall steam".Windows Live Messenger says "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application. Same with Chrome, it goes directly to the Error box.In the beginning before i started having the issues, all my programs were working fine.I tried restarting my computer. System Restore unfortnately has no restore points. Defragged my computer.Haven't fully tried Error Checking yet because it takes a VERY long time.
Is it most likely that my files are corrupted? If so, is there a program i can use to fix corrupted files before i attempt to use the built in utility Error Check from windows? Also i need to use Internet Explorer since firefox won't open after i installed it. Help me and save me from Internet Explorer LOL.Not even sure why Internet Explorer works Just opened iTunes and it says "iTunes was not installed correctly. reinsrall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 193)"
My work programs require XP and supposedly will not function on windows 7 nor the XP mode of same. I need a new computer, most likely a laptop, so I can work while traveling. I can't buy XP anymore. Any suggestions other than a new job?
a couple of web site that I use daily will not allow me to login since I have begun using my new Dell .One is my banks online site, I tried using IE8 and IE9 and Google Chrome, Firefox, & iGoogle all with different results.
My computer stopped yesterday and it was almost 7 years old, so I decided to buy a new one. I did it and I got KOMPAQ presario PC CQ5521f AMD, with win 7 home premium 64 bit, and 640 Gb hard drive and 3 GB of memory. Everything works great except some programs will not work in the windows 7, but they work well on XP. Now, I made one partition of 82 GB on C drive and I transferred the image of XP, which I had on an external hard drive and it was an excellent working XP. Now, I would like to have dual booting. I like to boot or XP or win 7. It does boot just win 7 and does not see added partition. What can I do to have dual booting?
I tried to load several of my old programs in XP and they wouldn't load in Seven.I was told that If I upgraded to Win 7 Professional, they would work.Is this true?
I upgraded my system three weeks ago and swapped out the mobo, CPU, RAM and hard drive.Because of this, I did a fresh install of Windows 7 on the new 120Gb SSD.Last week, I noticed that some programs will only run if I right click and run as an administrator. for reference, when I try to double left clik to run nothing happens. No cursor change, no spike in CPU/RAM activity, nothing at all.I have a few storage drives upon which I install all non-system programs and the odd thing is that any program that predates the new install of Windows 7 will run absolutely perfectly if I left click as normal. Any program installed after the upgrade will only work if I right click and run as admin.I've run MBAM, BitDefender, AdAware and Nod32 and there are no viruses that I can find.I thought it might be that the computer has lost the association for .exe programs but that isn't the case if older programs run fine from a left click.
The file search in the start menu does not work at all. As soon as I begin to type no items match your search appears in the search window. I am running windows 7 Home Premium. I have tried many suggestions from other post and none seem to work.
as it says in the topic, my browser works fine but all other programs cannot connect to the internet. also windows firewall gives me error code 0xd69 and 0x80070424.ive seen a topic on here with someone with the same issue but no solutions.ive tried AV scans and windows repairs but none of them worked. i cant get windows to update either.
I have an Acer Aspire 5517 that the microphone does not work with Skype and probably other programs, I have tried to use an external microphone which worked for a time but no longer.
So since the other day, Add And Remove programs has given me some trouble. Basically, when I went to the start Menu to work it, it didn't open up until I made a shortcut for the Desktop. And then it gave me the message that in all programs, to be blunt it couldn't find it- while I can't access it now, it said it couldn't find the program and asked me if I wanted to Admin Remove it from the list- this did nothing. And now, again, it doesn't work period. I've tried a system restore, but going back the farthest I can, it still doesn't work. Is it possible to completely reinstall Add And Remove Programs, or somehow fix it?
I am trying to uninstall some programs on my computer but every time I try, I get this same message. Of course I have rebooted my pc, and the other more obvious issues concerning this but every time I go in and try it does the same thing. I really need to get some programs off my pc! Box that comes up that states that I have to wait for the other program to finish uninstalling before I can do another in which it never is finished. It just sits there like that.
This may be difficult to troubleshoot because I have very few details about the computer in question. A friend called me because I am fairly good with basic computer problems. I'm not sure of the hardware specs, but it's a 2010 or 2011 model PC with Windows 7 installed. They did a Windows Update, and let it update just fine - they did not restart or shut down at all during the update. Once the update completed however, they can't open anything up.
Every time they try opening a program, they get an error message. Also, he mentioned that at first after the update, it wouldn't even boot up. He would get a message saying that he needs to restore to system defaults. Somehow, they got the computer to boot but it wont open any programs. How do you reset a Windows 7 computer to factory settings?
I have a problem with my control panel, when I go to it and like click on windows update or uninstall a program or restore files from back up or any of these programs, they don't pop up. So I am wondering what to do? And I also have a problem where I can't right click on the desktop and click screen resolution or personalize. It just pops up with "Explorere.EXE: No such interface supported" I am running Windows 7 64 bit on a HP Pavilion.
Error: All task bar icons (not them to the right) and all icons in the program listhave turned white, and pressing them leads to nowhere, instead a window asks what programI want to open. This makes navigation quite difficult, because I have to open each program in theprogram file folders. Error occurred this way:Media player vlc ran flawlessly for quite a while, I think it was v.1.11.11.Then suddenly vlc captured all icons that is all icons became vlc icons, and allicons being pressed would open vlc.At that time I was able to uninstall vlc, and all icons were back to normal. Then I used vlc portable for some time, and icons were OK.For some reason I tried to install a vlc nightly build, and again all icons became vlc icons. And this time I couldn't find a way to uninstall the vlc properly. So I found vlc rogram folders here and there and deleted them. That removed vlc, but all icons now turned white, and didn't work.
The "Uninstall/change a program" utility in the control panel is not listing all my programs (it does list about 90% of them though). What else can I use?
My computer runs like grease lightning in safe mode, and my internet speeds are marvellous also, but alas when not in safe mode I have on quite a few occasions lately had my Windows freeze, my Windows Live Mail also freeze. I will define freeze, everything just does not work, my browser Firefox/Google, none of my loaded programs.
I have to leave the computer for about 10 minutes, and then it is perfect all day!, so I am guessing a program is causing the dilemma, but which one? I have about 60 applications running and I haven't loaded a new one in about 6 months. Is there a program I can purchase/download that would seek out the rogue program if indeed it is a rogue program.
Would like to get general thoughts on the best way to transfer programs from old computer to my new 8-core Windows Pro 64-bit(new install) computer. One of my areas that I'm concerned with is that several of the programs I'm wanting to transfer were purchased over the internet & downloaded with no physical media involved. Otherwise, I would just do the install via the install cd's
I have Windows 7 Home premium and keyboard and mouse are wireless. However, the old keyboard is sticksing badly. Disconnected the wireless and plugged in the new USB Mouse and new USB Keyboard. Booted up system, the mouse was put into a purple round converter so I could plug in the usb to it, put the keyboard in the actual port. Mouse worked but keyboard had no power to it. I know it works because I had th wireless plugged into the same port. I have run out of ports to try. What now???
I bought a new computer tower last night it came with keyboard and mouse im using my old montor and speakers till i can afford new olds The speakers work but the sound is extremly low and i have it maxed out My old computer was about 5 years old, Do need powered speakers/
I'm having a problem on my computer where freezing happens not buffering. I have windows 7, 64 bit, it's about one year old with a good graphics card, eight GB's of memory and a solid state hard drive. Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-2600 CPU 3.40 GHz.When trying to watch a movie a clip or a game it will play but I need to move the mouse or click it. Flash games are almost unplayable on Firefox and IE. On demanding games that I have bought there is never a problem. I'm told at the web sites to update Adobe flash player and Shockwave which I have, but that didn't do anything.Techs that I have talked to say go to restore point but it doesn't go back anywhere close to the date when the problem started. Or reinstall windows but that seems to be their answer for everything
So about a week ago after going to some random video site my computer started having issues with freezing up. it predominately happens when I launch firefox and I have noticed more issues when using sites like netflix or watching episodes of my favorite shows on nbc, abc etc etc but it does happen no matter what im doing while browsing. some times it happens immediately after launching the browser and other times it takes a few minutes.
Also of note: Sometimes I can get out of the browser and some times I cant. I also cant restart the normal way and program manager wont load and neither will any thing else. I have to completely turn off the computer. when it comes back on some times the sound icon on the tray at the bottom right will mention that it failed to load and will have a red x. Sometimes windows loads and looks like windows xp or before with strange outdated graphics. I have norton with latest definitions always installed and as far as I can tell there are no viruses or malware installed. Also for a bit Java kept saying there was an update to be installed but when I would click on the icon it would say that there was nothing to install. I eventually figured that out and as far as I can tell the latest version of java is installed. the last detail I can think of: after a hard restart yesterday windows updates where installed and then I noticed that program manager showed high CPU and physical memory usage was higher and when Ctrl+Alt+Delete is pressed for a bit nothing comes up and then the screen turns black followed by an error box pops up:"failed to display security and shut down options".
my laptop restarted itself. I figured I must have touched the wrong buttons so when it reloaded, I went right back to what I had been doing, which was unrar things from the past and reading them. However, I couldn't unrar something; it wasn't giving me the extract option. Trying to do "open with" didn't do anything either. So I tried to open firefox to look for answer, that wouldn't load. Tried to open Adware to run a virus scan, that wouldn't load. The mouse will change and get the little hour glass, but nothing pops up. I reduced a lot of my graphics to see if it was overloading the system, but that hasn't helped. I am able to open folders, but can't open word documents or photoshop or anything else. I put a word document on a flash drive and opened it here at work, so it's not the files themselves. I even had the task manager open while trying to click on these items and it looks like the system isn't even attempting to open these programs because nothing new pops up on the task manager's list. I'm not sure how to force a virus check if I can't open the program. I'm not sure what else it could be if it's not some virus/spyware. Any suggestions? Any way to force the virus program to run? Unfortunately I don't have it set to automatically go at a certain time.Bitdefender Discount Codes?
My computer will not allow me to open any programs except those that came installed initially. For example, I cannot open firefox, itunes, adaware, etc. However, I can open IE, paint, games. I also cannot install anything either whether in safe mode or not, even if I change the exe name. I checked the processes and there is nothing out of the ordinary. Lastly, I tried a restore and nothing helpful came from it.
I've just been encountering a new problem. My computer just starts to hangup after just a few minutes of use. Programs lockup for minutes and even my mouse freezes for a few minutes at a time. I don't really know what could be causing it. No processes seem to be taking a lot of CPU usage, and there doesn't seem to be any suspicious processes either. Even as i type this, Google Chrome is freezing and unfreezing, but all my keystrokes are captured
This problem just started one day with no warning. I found that the computer starts up perfectly fine, loads Windows 7, and logs me in. but, after that, everything is suddenly incredibly slow, with the start menu taking minutes to open and certain programs even taking tens of minutes to open. It will occasionally freeze and become non-responsive. So I booted into safe mode, where at first it seemed to be doing relatively fine, but after opening a couple programs/files, it slowed down dramatically again.
I've run quick scans from Avast, MBAM, and SAS with no result. At first I thought it was hard drive failure, but that doesn't explain why at first the computer loads up fine. I then thought maybe it's memory failing, so I used the memory diagnostic tool, using 2 passes. It went through the first pass without problem, but I never saw it complete the second pass because when I came back, the computer had restarted with an error message and leaving a minidump file.
The computer is a Toshiba Satellite P755-S5269. I've had it for over a year without problem.
Joined a few days ago, just got a new computer, hasn't arrived yet. Had posted a purchase template and other things but little help so did the best I could with that decision. Bought my great old computer long ago when I knew nothing at all. I got it second hand from a third party, and didn't get any install disks. Can anyone tell me what old material is transferable to the new computer, and how does one do the transfer.
My laptop screen was broken by being steped on over a year ago. It worked through my tv though with HDMI connection. Out of no where it stopped projecting image to my tv even though when I unpluged or pluged in the cable it would make noise and the screen would flash. This was in august. So I stopped using it and let the battery completely die and sit there dead as this corrected other problems in the past (such as a nasty pop up virus. So I found and RGB-PC cable and have hooked it up to my TV that way.Well now that I can see the screen I have tried to use it and it is constantly freezing every program it uses and will last for a long time including task manager. It has rendered the computer un-usable. I have run a virus scan, disk clean and defrag and it still won't work. I also checked the event viewer and the system log wouldn't open. So I saved and cleared it as per advice on this site. Still the same.
NOTE: When HDMI crashed the computer was turned off using the power button a few times as I could not see anything. Also on one of the boot ups when this problem started to occur and instead of the regular safe mode screen option coming up the other screen came up (something about doing a scan and fixing it) and I guess it timed out or I hit no or something but windows just booted up and haven't been able to use the laptop properlky since. Not sure if its related but figured it was worth mentioning
My dad and I are planning to switch computers and he would like to transfer all of his programs, software, and folders to my computer. With that, we would just simply have to switch hard drives. We could always set up a new OS and reinstall all of the components and drivers manually. Is there an efficient way of keeping all of his programs and folders while still be able to reinstall a new OS? Or would he have to reinstall all of them? We have an extra external hard drive at hand in case if we need it for backing up
