Aug 16, 2010So my friend wants to reformat his computer because he is planning to return it to Costco. He has a HP netbook with windows start. I'm guessing that his computer comes with a program that lets him make a windows cd. But if there isn't, does anyone know another way to reformat his computer

Mar 18, 2011I already have windows 7 x64 edition installed on this computer. I'm trying to do a full reformat and delete everything and start fresh. When the computer starts, I hit F12 and try to boot from the disc. All it does is just go straight to the login screen and I'm back where I was before...with the old operating system.Tried switching the BIOS to boot from disc...nothing is working? It's just an endless loop I'm getting.Restart->F12->Boot from CD-> just continues to login screen.is there something different with windows 7? How to I reformat this thing?

Nov 28, 2012I have Windows 7 and no cd drive. Due to driver issues, I need to reformat.How do I do this using USB? Also, what about back-ups? Could I make a back up of my files and programs, how exactly does that work, I don't exactly want to defeat the purpose of the reformat though. I don't want to have to re-install everything, but there's nothing sensitive on this computer, so losing everything would be more of an inconvenience than a problem.

We found that the main culprit was TDL 3 and have been able to successfully remove that, however the technician feels that my computer security has been comprimised and is recommending that I reformat the computer. I cannot find the Windows XP disc that I need to use to put Windows XP back on, but I have already purchased the Windows 7 upgrade. That was done before all the virus stuff and I was trying to fix all of that before I upgraded. I want to reformat my computer and Install Windows 7 but am worried it isn't going to work since I only have the upgrade purchase. I'm assuming from feedback from the other tech, the only way to completely rid the system of infections is to reformat.

Dec 9, 2011My installation of Windows has been acting up lately, like it's insanely slow. I doubt it's a hardware issue since I just had Ubuntu 10.10 running on it a few days ago, flawlessly. I completely wiped the hard drive and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. All of the hardware on the computer is less than 6 months old, but I really doubt that it is hardware related since Ubuntu ran perfectly.It keeps freezing up every like 15 seconds, but only when I'm using Firefox. I was also extracting a .rar with WinRAR and it was taking insanely long.

Jan 10, 2013So I'm trying to reformat my HD, and I'm having quite the time doing so. I have borrowed and Windows 7 disk from a buddy of mine and was going to reformat my HD and then buy a key online, but here is my problem:
I put the disk into my DVD Drive and restart, I immediately go into BIOS and make sure that my DVD-RW drive is first choice in boot order, it is. Upon restarting, it just does a normal boot process, it doesn't give me the option to boot from disk.

Mar 15, 2010I'm currently have 1 SSD for OS and 2 HDD in RAID1 for data, all connected to the same Intel controller on my EVGA X58 3x SLI motherboard. I'm planning to re-install Windows 7 x64 Pro on the SSD. While doing this, I would also like to reformat the 2 RAIDed HDD's. What are the steps that I need in order to reformat the RAID1?
My SATA mode is set to AHCI at the moment. If I set the SATA mode to RAID and I boot to Windows, I'll get BSOD after the Windows logo screen. I'm not having Intel Matrix Storage Manager installed. The last time I did so on my current OS (also Win 7 x64 Pro), I got some weird chkdsk error, in which I was given thousands of "Replacing invalid security id with default id ..." for files on the RAIDed drive.
I'm planning to reuse the same 2 HDD's for RAID1 after the reinstallation. I've already copied the current data on the RAIDed disks to some external USB source.

Sep 3, 2012new to these forums as I have run into a recent problem with my display drivers. To start I am running:[CODE]I recently reformatted Windows 7 and now when I try to update either my Intel or Nvidia card, they both fail. The Intel update will most often say that my computer is not compatible, or that it simply fails. On the nvidia update I get the classic "Nvidia Installer failed" after trying both Express, Custom, and clean installs. In my first attempt at this I uninstalled my drivers and then tried installing, even in safe mode, and I could never get it to work. I did another install of windows in another attempt to restart the process but still no solution worked. I have browsed forums for about a day or two now and still have not found a viable option. The games I play do not open and usually crash after their first loading screen, however after I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers I was able to open the games at a low performance on the intel card, which leads me to think this Nvidia bug is the problem.
It is probably important to note that this was the first time I had reformatted since the laptop was purchased about a year ago, and that I also did it in a different format that I wasn't even really sure about doing. Rather than using the Windows install disc that came with the laptop (it is of course misplaced), I used the Windows Restore to go back to factory settings. I'm not sure if this may have played a role, but I am all out of ideas.

I was supposed to press one of the F keys (can't recall right now but have tried them all) and none of those work. Everything I have tried has failed. I really REALLY need to get this thing reformatted. I tried using the upgrade disk and now when I reboot it tries to upgrade Windows...which is turning into an all night process.
