I had users passing around a computer that ended up with a bunch of settings being screwed up which made me want to deny all regular domain users but not administrators. I did this as a local group policy on the computer under gpedit where i denied users and to my horrifying experience no users can log in, not even local admin.

I have an issue with Sharing a Folder on a Windows SBS 2011 Domain. On my Windows 7 Client Computer I want to Share one particular folder, but not with "Everybody". Instead I just want to share the Folder with one colleague Toward this end I enabled Sharing on the folder and gave Brendon permission to access the share.

I work in and oversee the computer network of a small architecture office. We only have 6 or 7 users right now, and about 12-14 active machines throughout the office. All machines connect through our office domain to our server box running Windows Server 2003 x86. Most production machines are now running Windows 7 x64, but there are a few XP x86 machines still left in the office. Everyone logs onto their machine using their username and password, which is set up in Active Directory Users and Computers on the server. Each username has a login script associated with it that maps various shared folders on the server as network drives on the workstations.
Right now, each user's workstation has that username set up as an Administrator account on that machine. I know that's not recommended, but it's been okay so far. However as time passes, I'm getting more and more concerned about network and computer security.
I'd like to know if there's a way to set up user accounts such that it won't ask for an Admin user name and password every time a program needs an update, but also doesn't allow them full access like Admins have, i.e. deleting software and such.
The issue is that I don't want to have to run around and enter an admin user name and password on the Windows 7 machines every time some software update appears or the user needs to install some software on a machine. We're a small office and don't rely on any actual IT department. I have many other responsibilities in the architecture field (working drawing production, project management, etc) and don't have time to always do that, especially when I'm out of the office on a jobsite, etc.

DC: Win Server 2003
Laptops: Win7 Pro
When joining a set of laptops to the domain it prompts for domain admin credentials and appears to be successful, but gives an error of 'Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to " " failed. The name will remain domain.local The error was: The RPC Server is unavailable.
When attempting to add Domain Users to the local administrators group: Windows cannot process the object with the name "domain users" because of the following error: The RPC server is unavailable.
This happens even when wired on the network. I have tried uncommenting the localhost line in HOSTS, and manually adding the DNS server (which is also the DC).

I have done this all before. In addition to
HKLMSystemCCSServicesLanmanWorkstationParameters
DWORD DomainCompatibilityMode = 1
DWORD DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0
I am using Samba 3.5.8 and I am trying to join a Windows 7 64Bit laptop to my domain.
HP Pavillion dv6
Intel core i5 CPU M 520 @ 2.40GHz 2.40Ghz
4.00 GB RAM
However when I try join the domain i get the following message:"The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "MYDOMAIN"The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. If I do a nslookup it resolves the domain controller, as well if i watch the traffic I can only see UDP traffic on that IP, however i can still browse the web from it?

I watch videos from this site Poker Netcast | Live At The Bike | LABTTheir login is https.Ive been in IT for 15 years and even this has stumped me.When I go to login in IE9 starts looping from the login page to the https page and back to the original page and never ends. I load firefox, same issue. I load Crome, it worked for 1 day then same issue. It used to login in fine last week. It logs in fine on my 2 other PCs and my Kindlefire.I have checked for viruses with Avast and A-Malware Bytes in safe mode - nothing. These 2 pick up 98% of stuff. Personally I dont think its a virusn IE9 - Deleted browsing history, cookies, temp internet files, everything under the Geneeral/Browsing History section. Did a disk cleanup, put the site inthe trusted zone, turned off popup blocker just in case, Cleared SSL state, Reset IE9. Zippo

I would like to know how you can redirect an external IP to localhost. Im trying to emulate the server for a simple program one of my friends coded in C++ (or something). It is basicly a login and register system, upon registering the program sends a HTTP request to the server (it requests a PHP file) with username & password parameters, if the username is not taken the server replies "1", if it is taken it replies "0".I made a PHP file on my server with the same name, though it would only return "0".So here is the deal, the program connects to a server that i dont have access to, nor do i have access to the program's source code and i can't change what IP the program connects to, so i will have to somehow forward the IP it connects to to my server's IP.

As a former Linux user, I didn't think about installing any virus protection software when I first bought my current laptop (Samsung R580) that runs on Windows 7 Home Premium. My laptop was fine for the first 6-8 months until I some strange things started happening. When I would Google something and click on a search result, I would be redirected to a website trying to sell me things. A friend of mine did some research, and told me my laptop had something called a "click jacker". We found a work-around. Then, I was primarily using Google Chrome as my browser of choice until it started loading websites slowly and then not at all. I switched to Mozilla Firefox for a while until it started behaving the same way. Now, I am using IE which is working great, but what do I do when the same thing happens to this web browser? I would really like to start fresh, but I have never attempted anything like that before.

I'm running a 2003 and 2008 server the 2003 is the primary DC. Most of our PC's are XP and were testing 2 windows 7 machines.
The desktops and some shared drives were stored on a nas box but it was unstable so I shifted the desktops and some public shares to a server on one of the DC's. I redirected the shares using netlogon scripts and they took fine on all computers XP and Windows 7, the desktops were redirected using Group policy, all the XP machines took the redirection, a few needed the users to be reset though. The issue I'm having is with the 2 windows 7 PC's, they have taken the shares but not the desktops. The desktops were working before. I have tried deleting the users and login in again, I have also tried to remove the regedit policies but no success. I have even taken the PC off the domain and put it back on with no success. The same users log in fine on the XP PC's and get the desktop.

Earlier today I tripped over a headphone cord and it flung my computer off my desk. I have an HP omni PC. It's the kind that had the computer and the monitor built together. I picked it back up off the floor. The power cord came out on impact. I set everything back up and was relived to hear it turn on. I selected start windows normally (win 7 64 bit) and it sat at starting windows forever. I eventually manually shutdown the computer. I powered back on and I got an option to start windows normally or use startup repair.
I thought it would be a good idea to go into startup repair. It just sat at the light blue screen with the large white mouse sitting there. Nothing happened. Nothing appeared on screen. I turned off the computer again and am just leaving it there for now. I am worried that the hard drive may have been disconnected from the fall and that's why windows won't start. Or maybe the hard drive was damaged. I tried doing a safe mode boot but it redirected me to startup repair.

i have an intel i5 2400 cpu, combined with 4gb ddr3 memory. mobo is dh67bl - revision 3. no gpu installed.power supply is via corsair vx450.problem i been facing:
1) bsod saying that a clock interrupt wasnt recd. [url]
2) bsod saying: page fault in non paging area. couldnt grab a screenshot for this.
3) display randomly goes off for a split second and reappears.. but the color of the panes go blue (i havent chosen blue. my setting is for clear pane.)[url] this error solves itself after random number of hours/mins
4) display vanishes for a split second and reappears, and a small balloon at the bottom right corner prompts that the display driver had stopped working.
5) system plain hangs/stops responding. randomly happens.. but more so while on Internet, or after hrs of it idling, i come back to the comp and try to scroll the content onscreen.sometime it revives from the stuck state as if nothing happened, sometimes i have to give it a cold boot.
6) while reading forums with blue bands.. the blue bands kinda form blurry bars which stretch till the end of the screen. i tried to grab a screenshot but the screenshots were clean. the bands moved as i dragged the image about.
7) also, my comp's display went off one day and within a second came back with a blue-ish hue. it restored itself but again has gone back to blue-ish.

I just installed a new 64 gig SSD in my computer. I also have a 2T secondary hard drive. The SSD is not big enough to contain all the stuff that will eventually be in "My documents",i.e. under "users" so I need to move the users directory to my secondary hard drive but havewindows behave as it were in its original location.I did some research and found the following technique which seemed plausible (and several people said it worked for them)
1. Install windows normally.
2. After install, boot from installation disk.
3. Get into the command prompt by clicking "repair".
4. Use robocopy to copy c:users to d:users. The command line should be: robocopy c:users d:users /mir /xj /copyall
5. Verify all files copied successfully.
6. Delete c:users. Command line should be: rmdir /s /q c:users
7. Delete c:documents and settings. Command line should be: rmdir "c:documents and settings"
8. Create junction to new users directory. Command line should be: mklink /j c:users d:users
9. Create junction for the old "documents and settings". Command line should be: mkdir /j "c:documents and settings" d:users
10. Restart computer.
Note:When in recovery mode the disk drives end up with different drive letters than what the normally have.Consequently my SSD drive which is "C" became "E" and my hard drive which is "D" became "C". Confusing, but I adjusted the above commands to reflect this. All seemed to go well until I rebooted. The computer booted up fine, but when I entered my password to log in windows complained that it could not find my profile. Since I could not log in at all I was forced to re-install windows. Supposedly, this is doable and I NEED to do it asap as my SSD will not hold all the stuff that will eventually be in "users".

I am cleaning a laptop out and i created a brand new user name. I deleted the other 2 users using the control passwords2.
So the machine starts and i select the user. Process usage is very high and it says 50, but actual user shows about 9. I click show processes from all users and i find the culprit as well as 50 processes. I deleted the users so there shouldnt be that option.
Why is there more processes if this is the only user, why does it even have the option?

It's absolutely driving him nuts the way it is.

I have two seagate barracuda sata drives. My primary o/s drive (c:/) is a 160gb and the secondary is a 1tb . I use the 160gb for my windows installation and for program files. The 1tb is what I had the "My Documents" folder redirected to in Win Xp Pro. I am attempting to do the same thing in windows 7 which makes life easier if for some reason i would have to format and reinstall Windows.
