I deleted a video that I recorded using my webcam. It was a .wmv file. I then downloaded a program to recover it to my computer as it was deleted in my recycle bin. I was able to recover it but now I cannot open it or play it. I have tried programs that fix .wmv files and different recover programs and I have even tried recovering tthe file to a different drive.

I'm going to provide too much info because those of us who are computer knuckleheads think everything is important since it's all a mystery to us.
My main computer crashed and data has been retrieved from the hard drive including all my Outlook Express dbx files. There are four years of e-mails in these files and critical that I be able to open them.
My only working computer runs XP. It has Outlook Express installed on it and was once used for e-mail, but no longer and not set up with my provider to send or receive if that matters at all. Other than sending and receiving all other OE program functions seem operational.
I have read many explanations on how to open dbx files on various sites - every one is completely different and most seem far beyond my skill level.

The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."Plus, I also get a similar error msg with WMC.However if I select VLC to play the video, it plays just fine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I pop a DVD in my drive I use WMP 12 to play it and 2 interfaces of WMP 12 open to play it. One has the menu of the DVD on it and it's maximized ready to go and one is just WMP 12 minimized. The minimized one fades out, but that's not the issuue. Why do 2 of them open in the first place? Is it something to do with the fact that WMP 12 has both a 32 bit and a X64 when you're running Windows 7 HP x64? I do have the 32 bit as default with the Windows 7 codec package by Shark.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had an unusual happening on my PC. First noticed some instability while trying to open a file from Explorer, could not scroll down to file and it was jittery. Then, every time I tried to enter on an input line, an endless string of zeros were input and I could not overide or erase. Even on Email addressees. I tried a reboot and the zeros appeared on the start up password line and I could not logon. Same thing after complete power cycle. I suspected a stuck key on the keyboard and tried a different keyboard but no help. So I tried a complete restore. At first, it seemed to have the same problem, but somehow, eventually, I got logged on and now everything seems OK. But I don't really know what caused this and fear it could happen again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled Windows 7 on my PC, and was getting everything set up again, when I ran into a bug that I can't believe is still present in Windows 7 after two years of it being a supposedly known issue.This bug pertains to WMP 12 64 bit.I fell victim to this bug back in 2010, but the problem is I don't remember how I fixed it.Here is an old thread wherein the first post, by Chappy, describes EXACTLY what happened to my system. Windows 7 Codec Pack (from Vista Codec Pack developer)Specifically, this is what I'm talking about...."NOTE - There seems to be a behaviour noted in Vista that possibly has carried over to Windows 7 as well. It's not a VCP related behaviour but it CAN affect if some files play or not.Vista (and Windows 7) come with both a 32 & 64bit version of WMP and it was found in Vista that if you associated a certain file type with WMP while the 64bit player was set to the default, that file association could NOT be changed even if WMP was set to use the 32bit player as default afterwards. This causes certain file types to be Unplayable due to 64bit WMP's limitations (well actually it's CODEC limitations). There are no functional differences between 32 or 64bit WMP but because of "lazy" CODEC developers, many CODECS are not 64bit compatible...yet.
Because of this, most of us set the 32bit WMP as default before making any file association changes for WMP. This way the 32bit WMP will play all file types with no issues using VCP. Unfortunately, if you have opened a media file in Windows 7 and checked the "associate this file type to WMP" option while the 64bit player is default (which it is out of the box), then that file type may not play even though you change to 32bit player using the VCP x64 tools.Another thing I think I've found is that .FLV (Flash Video) files will not play in WMP no matter which version is default. They do play in WMC, and I'm going to check with Shark007 later about .flv support, so I'll post any results later."I tried opening a media file in Windows 7, and accidentally associated a file (or all media files) to WMP while 64 bit player was default (since it was a fresh install of Windows).
I can confirm my video card and sound card (Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium) both work correctly. They've worked perfectly since I installed Win 7. I've double checked, and can confim my speakers are plugged in correctly.A few days ago, this problem began when I called Microsoft Support, to get help with getting Windows Media Center to stream to my XBox. So I have a .filA clip from an old computer game, and I was wondering if there was a conversion software that would allow it to play in windows media player, or if it's just plain impossible. From time to time at any old time of the day (randomly it seems in other words) I'll go in and try to arrange, rename, or get rid of files and I'll get "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer.
