Alright, so this is kind of complicated. I really hope someone can help me. This weekend, I was unable to login to Windows. When it got to the login page, I got no response from my keyboard or mouse. I tried 3 system restore points, none of which worked, so I had to go with a full system recovery which returned my computer to factory settings. I use Norton 360 so I had all of my files backed up to their online storage. When I went through the computer set-up, it set up a profile for me under the name jmdunn2. When I recovered my files from Norton, it said that it restored them to the original location, but that location was now under the C:/Users/owner tab. I want to just be able to move these files into the C:/Users/jmdunn2 tab, but when I right-click, I am not given the "Move to" or "Copy to" options. It seems like they're all locked into place somehow.
i have been having problems with NORTON ANTIVIRUS and when i clicked on it nothing happens also i cant now get access to the INTERNET yesterday i had to go to a RESTORE point but INTERNT ACCESS was ok after i did this i just seemed to drop out when i clicked on NORTON ICON
I keep getting that error while playing Skyrim on my GTX 295. It's not just Skyrim, it happens with Crysis 2 VERY often, like every 20 seconds, it happens with Deus Ex, only once though, as it crashes to desktop afterwards. I have tried every possible driver combination, i updated to the latest beta driver and it still happens. I ran the program in XP compatibility, ran it in Iobit's Game Mode (which disables some services), and as Administrator mode. It still happens.I ran it windowed, and also ran it as Single GPU card (which reduced the frequency of this happening, but didn't stop it), ultimately, i ran out of ideas.Whenever i turn my computer off for 15 minutes or so, the game runs fine for 3 hours at least. My first thought was overheating, but i used EVGA Precision to measure the temperature, and it didn't go higher than 60 C when it crashed. It did, however, report a sudden spike of GPU- A usage to 100% when the error message appeared, but B remained constant.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x32 and when windows started up i got error something like "Display driver stopped working and has been succesfully recovered" and after that different color lines started appearing on monitor and computer freeze.i can only go to safe mode,i have geforce 9600 gt.
So I've been getting this annoying error "Display driver has stopped working and has recovered" which seems to be fairly common after searching for a fix for it. I'll spare you all the details and cut to the chase.
I've tried the GPU (evga 460gtx) on my friend's computer reproducing the crash-inducing environment (playing some games on max details) and it works flawlessly so I was able to remove 'faulty card' from my suspect list.
Back on my own PC I've tried every possible thing until one actually worked (underclocking my gpu from 850 to 800mhz).
My question is... does this point to a PSU fault? Everything in bios is set to default and the OS+drivers are clean install. I want to know why I have to underclock it, what the problem really is.
When I put a file into the recycle bin, if I have to recover it from the recycle bin, when I take it out it seems to have lost the file name information. Screen shots below.I created a file, a folder, and a second file inside the folder. url..I put the files in the recycle bin, and they retain their file names. url...When I take them out, their names turn into $RE0HPI9 and $RX5JNJA.txt, which don't represent the original file name at all. url...
i accidentally deleted some files from the recycle bin ( some videos and pdfs ). i used recuva and got them back but they are only 1kb big and the names are random letters and numbers.
i recently had a OS partition go bad, and i used easeus to recover the files (not the partition) is there anyone with some knowledge to if there is anything i can do (or any software) with the files so i can move them to a new drive with a new bootable partition and get windows to boot from that new drive? or even install windows on that new drive but move all the program files and data so i don't have to re-install all applications
I'm going to provide too much info because those of us who are computer knuckleheads think everything is important since it's all a mystery to us.
My main computer crashed and data has been retrieved from the hard drive including all my Outlook Express dbx files. There are four years of e-mails in these files and critical that I be able to open them.
My only working computer runs XP. It has Outlook Express installed on it and was once used for e-mail, but no longer and not set up with my provider to send or receive if that matters at all. Other than sending and receiving all other OE program functions seem operational.
I have read many explanations on how to open dbx files on various sites - every one is completely different and most seem far beyond my skill level.
Moved doc, docx, xls, xlsx, jpg files from a backup drive to a new computer. Files showed up, and I used them for a few days. As it was a demo computer I changed the owner name via regedit. Then could not locate the files. Have used two undelete programs, these locate the files. When recovered however, although the names show, the contents are unreadable. Went back to the backup drive. Cannot locate the files, even using an undelete program.
I recently recovered my data from a biohd-8 error. Can someone please tell me which files can I copy back to a hard drive in order for my system to start again and make it useable again. I do not know if any of the files were damaged in the recovery process.
1) If I am able to restart my system by copying these files, will I need to re-activate Windows 7 again? 2) Would I copy the files to the root of the hard drive? 3) I also have the system restore disks that I made a while back, can I use these to install the files into a new hard drive and will windows 7 work?
installed new norton 360 in windows vista but cannot uninstall it. already tried add/remove programs. click on remove, nothing happens, screen flickers and wont uninstall.
I got a new laptop with widows 7. I was going to install system mechanic pro 9.5. But something happened and i cant uninstall Norton. How do i reset the laptop to how it was when i first started it, where i have to enter the comp name and all?
why does this PC refuse to take Norton this is fumb it has been this way since I got it but mylease is now done from easyhome Norton tryed to install it manually still no darn go so anyhow now got MicroSoft securrity essentials.
I purchased a Windows 7 laptop that was already running Microsoft Security Essentials. Since I had a Norton 360 Premier subscription, I tried to download and install it.It won't work without uninstalling MSE, which I did. But it still doesn't work. MSE won't reinstall because it can find bits of the Norton install. I've run the Norton utilities for removal, I've spent 4 hours on the phone with Norton, and I've been going back and forth via email with the MS support guys to do a full removal of MSE and after going through registry edits, and turning off all microsoft products and hours of troubleshooting this - I *still* can't get it to work.
Today I downloaded and ran Secunia PSI at BC's suggestion. Now my Norton firewall blocks Firefox. I have to turn off the firewall to access the internet. Several sites I checked said to get rid of Norton, but I wanted to check with a site I already trust.
So when I try to turn on my computer it goes right to startup repair. Now after a while it says windows cannot repair your computer automatically. So I went to advanced options to try and do a restore point. Now when that is done running and it says complete it goes to a screen that says system restore did not complete successfully. Your computers files and settings were not changed.
W7, Norton 360, All of a sudden my confuzer is blocking all download files. No error message just a note in the DL bar at the bottom saying 'file name' 0 bytes Download Error. The files are tiny txt files from a trusted 3rd party site through a secured connection. Disable the Norton firewall and get the same error.
I had some kind of problem with my Ghost 15 installation. I kept giving me this message that it couldn't communicate with my computer? Probably had something to do with getting a new external hard drive for my backlups.
I finally decided to just reinstall it, to reset everything. It told me that I had to uninstall it first. I did that and it still kept telling my I had to uninstall.
I ran Revo Uninstaller. It still kept telling me I had to uninstall it before I could reinstall it.
I finally found the Norton Removal Tool and after running that it would let my reinstall.
When I started it, it said I didn't have permission to run it, even when I logged in as Administrator. I found the instructions that said I had to uninstall it again, run the reset permissions tool, and then reinstall it again.
I think I did that, (it's weird takes me to a page with no active buttons and I have to click at the top of the screen giving permission to install something, then nothing) now it still tells me that I don't have permission to configure Ghost when I start it.
I'm about ready to give up and switch to another program, I've run Ghost for years, but this is crazy. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, I have the UAC turned off, I don't know what else I can do.
Windows 7 premium came with Norton Antivirus on the laptop i bought well over a year ago. Still says im fully protected and runs its updates and scans.. question is - do i permanently have Norton now or is it due to expire? every site i've been to says about renewing a subscription which i never had to buy in the first place?
after reading that I should have an external backup, I bought a Nexstar 3 USB 3.0. compatible with USB 2.0. This in part as I lost my last Computer during an electrical storm about thirty miles away. I just want to back up about once a week.I also bought Norton Ghost. Norton Ghost seeming to be working ok. Question: why do I need it? Apparently with Windows 7 I can just transfer Data to the external disc. I have to ask this question as the instructions coming with Norton Ghost don't seem to have been written by a human being. I should like to uninstall Norton Ghost , reformat the external and start again. Is this OK?
I just used CCleaner to remove Norton 360 (trial) from my hp desktop. After deletion it asked me to restart, which I did. Upon restart the PC will not reboot. It gets to the initial screen showing boot options for less than a second and then goes blank, with a cursor flashing in the top left corner. No inputs are being accepted, so I cannot boot to safe mode or the recovery console.
I have Windows 7 home 64bit and I use the 2012 version of Norton Internet Security.Over the last few days the Action Center keeps telling me that NIS has been switched off and raising issues about antispyware, antivirus and the firewall. NIS is sitting there telling me that everything is secure.
I don't think there is a major issue but it is very irritating. I can resolve it for today by going into NIS, switching everything off and then back on again. So it looks like something has gone wrong with the communication between Windows and NIS at start up.
is it possible to remove norton antivirus from recovery disk created by HP recovery manager? it's cussing trouble recovering hard drive since it doesnt give access to it's folder to other applications including recovery manager
