View 2 RepliesSo when I try to turn on my computer it goes right to startup repair. Now after a while it says windows cannot repair your computer automatically. So I went to advanced options to try and do a restore point. Now when that is done running and it says complete it goes to a screen that says system restore did not complete successfully. Your computers files and settings were not changed.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Windows 7 laptop that was already running Microsoft Security Essentials. Since I had a Norton 360 Premier subscription, I tried to download and install it.It won't work without uninstalling MSE, which I did. But it still doesn't work. MSE won't reinstall because it can find bits of the Norton install. I've run the Norton utilities for removal, I've spent 4 hours on the phone with Norton, and I've been going back and forth via email with the MS support guys to do a full removal of MSE and after going through registry edits, and turning off all microsoft products and hours of troubleshooting this - I *still* can't get it to work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had some kind of problem with my Ghost 15 installation. I kept giving me this message that it couldn't communicate with my computer? Probably had something to do with getting a new external hard drive for my backlups.
I finally decided to just reinstall it, to reset everything. It told me that I had to uninstall it first. I did that and it still kept telling my I had to uninstall.
I ran Revo Uninstaller. It still kept telling me I had to uninstall it before I could reinstall it.
I finally found the Norton Removal Tool and after running that it would let my reinstall.
When I started it, it said I didn't have permission to run it, even when I logged in as Administrator. I found the instructions that said I had to uninstall it again, run the reset permissions tool, and then reinstall it again.
I think I did that, (it's weird takes me to a page with no active buttons and I have to click at the top of the screen giving permission to install something, then nothing) now it still tells me that I don't have permission to configure Ghost when I start it.
I'm about ready to give up and switch to another program, I've run Ghost for years, but this is crazy. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, I have the UAC turned off, I don't know what else I can do.
Windows 7 premium came with Norton Antivirus on the laptop i bought well over a year ago. Still says im fully protected and runs its updates and scans.. question is - do i permanently have Norton now or is it due to expire? every site i've been to says about renewing a subscription which i never had to buy in the first place?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAlright, so this is kind of complicated. I really hope someone can help me. This weekend, I was unable to login to Windows. When it got to the login page, I got no response from my keyboard or mouse. I tried 3 system restore points, none of which worked, so I had to go with a full system recovery which returned my computer to factory settings. I use Norton 360 so I had all of my files backed up to their online storage. When I went through the computer set-up, it set up a profile for me under the name jmdunn2. When I recovered my files from Norton, it said that it restored them to the original location, but that location was now under the C:/Users/owner tab. I want to just be able to move these files into the C:/Users/jmdunn2 tab, but when I right-click, I am not given the "Move to" or "Copy to" options. It seems like they're all locked into place somehow.
View 2 Replies View Relatedafter reading that I should have an external backup, I bought a Nexstar 3 USB 3.0. compatible with USB 2.0. This in part as I lost my last Computer during an electrical storm about thirty miles away. I just want to back up about once a week.I also bought Norton Ghost. Norton Ghost seeming to be working ok. Question: why do I need it? Apparently with Windows 7 I can just transfer Data to the external disc. I have to ask this question as the instructions coming with Norton Ghost don't seem to have been written by a human being. I should like to uninstall Norton Ghost , reformat the external and start again. Is this OK?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just used CCleaner to remove Norton 360 (trial) from my hp desktop. After deletion it asked me to restart, which I did. Upon restart the PC will not reboot. It gets to the initial screen showing boot options for less than a second and then goes blank, with a cursor flashing in the top left corner. No inputs are being accepted, so I cannot boot to safe mode or the recovery console.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 home 64bit and I use the 2012 version of Norton Internet Security.Over the last few days the Action Center keeps telling me that NIS has been switched off and raising issues about antispyware, antivirus and the firewall. NIS is sitting there telling me that everything is secure.
I don't think there is a major issue but it is very irritating. I can resolve it for today by going into NIS, switching everything off and then back on again. So it looks like something has gone wrong with the communication between Windows and NIS at start up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to clone my existing laptop hard drive to a hard drive that I have encased as an external hard drive. My current HD is in two partitions - C: and D:. Norton Ghost told me that I would have to copy one partition at a time. Fine. After I copied C:, I went back to copy D:, but before beginning it says - warning/any existing data on the destination drive would be deleted. So how am I supposed to move one drive at a time? I don't want multiple partitions on my new HD if I can help it.
I went ahead and began copying D: onto my external drive, and when it was done, I now can't see that drive in Windows Explorer. In Disk Management I see the drive, but it looks like there isn't any data on it from the amount available. So it looks like I"m back to square one.
